Recommend Me a MP3 Player

So recently, my phone (actually my micro SD card) ran out of space. So instead of getting a larger micro SD card, I've made the decision to get a MP3 player.

The last MP3 player I owned was a 2nd Gen iPod touch. Although I enjoyed all the features and apps, I decided that I didn't need it after I got my new phone which has similar functionality. Thus, I sold my iPod touch and have been keeping music on my phone every since.

Now I'm shopping for a MP3 player again...

I have a moderately large and constantly expanding music collection (currently 35GB~), so I will probably need a 60GB-ish MP3 player. I don't really need any fancy features or video capability as I have my phone for that. If the MP3 player supports many file types such as FLAC, that will be a plus but it is not really a necessity. I also run and go to the gym a fair amount so a smaller device would be great.

My budget is nowhere as big as I'd like it to be so please don't recommend me one of those overpriced Apple gadgets >_<

Thanks!

60GBish? Might be hard to find. iPod's blow, and that's all I can really say. If you can, find a decent Creative Zen, or Zune, and buy that. I've never had problems with those. iPod's fuck up just based on iTunes or the firmware.

one of the only players that support flac and other files such as ogg
is Cowon S9
Get the 32gb version used on ebay or something for around 180.
Great sound quality, insane battery life, unbeatable screen, drag-and-drop (no proprietory bullshit) file transfer, etc.

the only other thing i might consider is zune hd, which i own but sort of regret
hardware is probably just good as cowon s9, minus the mediocre battery life
but the software... fuck this pita pisses me off like no other

64 GB on the player itself is a tall order. Devices with that kind of capacity are larger and higher-end, and so they usually play video/have other features. Unless you want to fork out a couple/few hundred dollars, I'd suggest reconsidering the microSDHC replacement/swapping option.

On another note, for portable players this site has some relevant measurements of audio signal quality from various sources.

iPod's aren't that bad considering you can avoid iTunes these days.

I KNEW that even though the OP said do NOT recommend me apple products the thread would continue to bash apple products, albeit totally out of context.
I mean it has a flawless connection and everything. Way to go TL, never disappoint ^_^

i've been using a sanza fuze happily, the fuze has a capacity of only 8 GB, but has a micro SD card slot...so theoretically, it'll hold however much you are willing to put on an SD card.

but aside from that, a 60 GB music player for cheap is a hard thing to find..

You aren't going to find something cheap with a capacity requirement like 60GB. I have two options for you.

1. Lower your capacity requirement and get a sansa clip+ with 16GB microsd card (32GB Total)
2. Buy a used iPod and put custom firmware on it. http://www.rockbox.org/

Cowon J3.

It's an updated S9, which is one of the best reviewed mp3 players in a long time. For good reason too because the S9 was absolutely awesome, the best mp3 player I have ever owned. Amazing sound quality, supports every format, fantastic screen/video quality, the UI is flash based so it could be changed to anything you want, great community support with lots of UIs and tweaks, decent firmware support from Cowon - new firmware every 1-2 weeks, etc. Just an all round great player.

The J3 is basically the S9 with new features. It has a flat back rather than the S9s curved back, which is better because the curved back was pretty annoying. It also has an SD card slot, better battery life and a new, more usable UI.

An mp3 player can't be both small and hold a huge capacity, get a 16GB iPod Nano, preferably an older version because the 3rd Gen looks fugly.

EDIT: iTunes sucks but you can fix that, just get sharepod FREE and use it instead. I'm using it and it's great.

sansa clip+ with a microsd card if 8gb isn't enough.
cheap, plays flac & ogg, proably the best audio quality near the price range, tiny like an ipod shuffle but has a screen, good battery life.

Get an classic Ipod, 160 GB for $250ish, maybe cheaper. Not quite as small as you might like, but it's got everything else. Or even a previous gen one if you can find a working one. I have an 80 gig 5th generation ipod that I've been using for at least 4 or 5 years that I've never had any sort of problem with, and you could probably find one for cheap.

Great choice if you're looking to save money :3

I can vouch for Cowon stuff (have an 8GB i9 and it's great). Their latest model (J3) goes up to 32GB and it has microsd expansion slots so it can hold quite a lot of stuff.
<Wolfpox> i remember when MVP beat that one guy, and everyone was like 'whoa' except that penguin dude.
