Update #1
+ Show Spoiler +
Okay, looking back at things now, this seems to be a bad idea and isn't received well by TL (can be said the same about ladder blogs anyway =p)

Nevertheless, I did some Math practices on Indices today. I will have an Additional Math Test next Thursday on Matrices, Indices, Exponential Equations, and Standard Form. So Math will be a priority for me at the moment.

So embarrassing...

Also, lesson learnt - it's good to have a little foresight when doing Math. While I was doing an indices question I added up all the powers at the numerator and then didn't have anything to do with the denominator because there wasn't any way that a common factor could be found. Also, at this level of Mathematics, whenever I see something like 3^n + 3^n+1 , take out the common factor. What a numbskull.

Your face, right now.

Holy shit right? "Are you insane Azera? The hell is this? The hell is wrong with you? Do you think this is a game?"

Well the subject of the whether a blog like this is feasible surely will lend itself readily to convivial disquisition by the readers of Team Liquid. Surely we have all seen the multitude of "Ladder Blogs" that are littered all over Team Liquid titled something corny like "Road to -", "Path to -",or "Look at how much I suck at grammar and grasping a reader's intention and boring them with my flat, boring, passive game recaps" I don't mean to openly disrespect the writers of those blogs and fill this blog with libel, so just take it as satire. I'm bad at this okay?

Alright, putting my adolescent, childish humour aside, it's time to continue this blog in a more austere manner.

So, from what I have observed hitherto, people publish ladder blogs in an attempt to get serious about ladder. Similar to that idea, I will be publishing study blogs in an attempt to get really serious about studying.

Below is a list of the subjects that I'am currently taking in school and wish to work on throughout the course of this blog series.

  • English
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Elementary Mathematics
  • Additional Mathematics
  • Humanities - Social Studies at the moment, History for the second half of the year

To the informed or those who are familiar with the Singaporean education system, it would appear that I have left out Mandarin, my Mother Tongue. Why have I left that out? Because I'm hopeless at the subject, there is no hope for me when it comes to Mandarin. Don't ask me why unless you really want to know, just take it as it is.

I'm not taking Physics, but I hope that I will be able to teach myself some basic Physics (as in, the kind of Physics that the students who are taking Physics at this level will learn, at 15 years old)

Who are you?
- I'm a 15 year-old student from Singapore in an average, neighbourhood school, and publisher of many blogs . Terrible ones, I might add.

So how will this work out?
- In each blog of the series, I will post the objectives that I wish to complete (Subject topics, etc.)

How long will be the duration between each blog of the series?
- Maybe a week or so, I don't want to clutter up the Blogs section with my study blogs, but since there are ladder blogs that are daily updates... it's all very subjective anyway. Who knows? Definitely not a few hours of course, that would be ridiculous and redundant.

Isn't it counter-intuitive to spend your time typing out blogs instead of studying?
- People need to rest and relax. Even Asians.

Feel free to ask me any questions that you may have, I will try to answer them.

Scheme of Work
Expect these to be a little more detailed when it comes to the Sciences.

Chemistry
+ Show Spoiler +
Kinetic Particle Theory
  • Describe the solid, liquid and gaseous states of matter and explain their interconversion in terms of the kinetic particle theory and the energy changes involved.
  • Describe and explain evidence for the movement of particles in liquids and gases (The treatment of Brownian motion is not required).
  • Explain everyday effects of diffusion in terms of particles, e.g. the spread of perfumes and cooking aromas; tea and coffee grains in water.
  • State qualitatively the effect of molecular mass on the rate of diffusion and explain the dependence of rate of diffusion on temperature.

Atomic Structure
  • State the relative charges and approximate relative masses of a proton, a neutron and an electron.
  • Describe, with the aid of diagrams, the structure of an atom as containing protons and neutrons (nucleons) in the nucleus and electrons arranged in shells (energy levels).
  • Define proton (atomic) number and nucleon (mass) number.

Ionic Bonding
  • Describe the formation of ions by electron loss/gain in order to obtain the electronic configuration of an inert gas.
Describe the formation of ionic bonds between metals and non-metals, e.g. NaCl, MgCl2.
  • Deduce the formulae of ionic compounds from the charges on the ions present and vice versa.
  • State that ionic materials contain a giant lattice in which the ions are held by electrostatic attraction, e.g. NaCl (candidates will not be required to draw diagrams of ionic lattices)
  • Deduce the formulae of other ionic compounds from diagrams of their lattice structures, limited to binary compounds.
  • Relate the physical properties (including electrical property) of ionic compounds to their lattice structure.

Covalent Bonding
  • Describe the formation of a covalent bond by the sharing of a pair of electrons in order to gain the electronic configuration of an inert gas.
  • Describe, using ‘dot and cross’ diagrams, the formation of covalent bonds between non-metallic elements, eg. H2; O2; H2O; CH4; CO2.
  • Deduce the arrangement of electrons in other covalent molecules.
  • Relate the physical properties (including electrical property) of covalent substances to their structure and bonding.

Metallic Bonding
  • Describe metals as a lattice of positive ions in a ‘sea of electrons’.
  • Relate the electrical conductivity of metals to the mobility of the electrons in the structure.

Biology
+ Show Spoiler +
Movement of Substances
  • Define 'Diffusion', 'Osmosis' , and 'Active Transport', and state similarities and differences.
  • Discuss the importance of diffusion in nutrient uptake in pants and humans.
  • Discuss the importance of diffusion in gaseous exchange in plants and humans.
  • Discuss the effects of osmosis on plant and animal cells/tissues.
  • Discuss the importance of active transport as an energy-consuming process by which substances are transported against a concentration gradient (Eg. Ion uptake by root hairs & uptake of glucose by cells in the small intestine)

Cells
  • Identify the organelles of a typical plant and animal cell from diagrams, photomicrograph, and as seen under a light microscope.
  • Identify membrane systems and organelles such as the Endoplasmic Reticulum, Mitochondrion, Golgi Apparatus, and Ribosome.
  • State the functions of the membrane systems and organelles identified.
  • Compare the structures of typical animal and plant cells.
  • State, in simple terms, the relationship between cell function and cell structure in the following:
    - absorption in root hair cells;
    - conduction and support in xylem vessels;and
    - transport of oxygen in red blood cells
  • Differentiate the cell, tissue, organ, and organ system.

Additional Math
+ Show Spoiler +
  • Simultaneous Equations
  • Indices
  • Exponential Equations
  • Standard Form
  • Matrices (Determinant & Inverse)

*Humanities*
+ Show Spoiler +
  • Work on answering Inferential/Source based questions. No idea how though =(
  • Complete practice on Inferential/Source based questions.
    + Show Spoiler +
    1.
    Study Source A.
Shots were fired by a mindless military,
The people ran they were unarmed
Across the world we will read of Derry
And those who died by oppressive hands.
    —Cruachan, "Bloody Sunday"

Are the singers of the lyrics in Source A Protestants or Catholics? Explain your answer.

    2.
    Study Source B.

Why was the photograph taken? Explain your answer.

    3.
Study Source C, a comment by British Prime Minister David Cameron on Bloody Sunday during the Saville Inquiry

Some members of the armed forces acted wrongly, the government is ultimately responsible for the conduct of the armed forces and for that on behalf of the government, indeed on behalf of our country, I am deeply sorry. The civil rights marchers who were shot on January 30th, 1972, were all innocent. None of the casualties shot by the soldiers of Support Company was armed with a firearm. Despite the contrary evidence given by the soldiers, none of them fired in response to attacks or threatened attacks by nail or petrol bombers, he (British judge Mark Saville who headed the Saville report on what happened on Bloody Sunday) finds that many of the soldiers, and I quote, knowingly put forward false accounts in order to see to justify their firing.

How far does Source C blame the British Army for the bloodshed on 30th January 1972? Explain your answer.

For Math I'll just be doing practices over and over again.
That's it for now, I'll be posting the results either via pictures of my notes or quick text recaps.

If you have links to any websites that serve as a resource for studying materials, please post them.

I really want to know why you're hopeless at Mandarin.

If you didn't already know about it, http://www.wolframalpha.com is awesome for maths. Is that just your first semester curriculum for maths or what?

Why I'm hopeless at Mandarin eh? I didn't pay attention in class once.
Okay, maybe that's a lie, but something along those lines. I was trailing behind the rest of the class, and the gap grew bigger and bigger. With Mandarin being such a difficult and complex language to learn already, ugh.

What---- I don't see any "music" on your list. Are you AGAINST music? RAWR
I know becoming a musician is probably not on your radar (and probably won't land on your radar given the circumstances) but taking at least one music course is recommended. For reasons that nobody really knows, taking music is good for you.

As you said it yourself, even us Asians need to relax sometimes. So relax and take it a step at a time. I think what you've been blogging goes past the line of "good future planning" and dives into "paranoia" or similar. There will be plenty of chances to improve your grades. Don't worry too much, relax, go play a game of Starcraft, and have some fried chicken.

I can't simply just choose to take music becomes music isn't even offered for my year. What I can do however, is teach myself Physics, get really good at it, then convince the Head of Department of Science to allow me to take the Physics examination even though I'm not taking Physics.

Wet dream -> Scoring extremely high for said Physics examination and topping the entire level, embarrassing those that take Physics.

I would love to play some StarCraft 2, but I don't have any buddies to enjoy customs with because I don't feel like laddering until Season 6. =(

Sigh, humanities...
