[VN] Yume Miru Kusuri Part 1

Welcome to my blog, and here is a review on the recent Visual Novel I played, Yume Miru Kusuri: A Drug That Makes You Dream

I won't lie, the title caught a lot of my attention and so decided to give it a shot

I'm not a huge fan of sexual content in visual novels as they feel "slapped on" just for the sake of it to draw a larger audience. However, my opinion changed after playing through another one of my favorite VN, Cross Channel. There are ones where properly used, it becomes an integral part of the story line.

Hmm for this game, I had mixed feelings as some parts of the sex scenes made sense while others made no sense at all. Especially depending on which route/girl you take. There are 3 routes with 3 different girls available.

You play as Kouhei Kagami, a high school student who lives an uneventful life. He is studious as he does not want to be a bother to his foster parents and his younger sister and lives an apathetic life. He rarely socializes and doesn't bring attention to himself in school. He does have 2 friends in class, Takeshi Iogi and Misaki Sayama.

I will cover the route where you follow Nekoko, a mysterious girl who proclaims to be a fairy.
I will also gloss over parts not very important to the story as I wouldn't want this blog to be monster length. While I did edit pics to be more 'Work Safe' some of the images might not be suitable for younger audience (One in particular)

You start up in a dream with a mysterious lady who challenges you to a fight.
After getting promptly beat up, you wake up to a soft voice. And after awakening, you see a mysterious girl.

Her name is Aeka Shiraki, and is one of the other girls you can take after, but I will not be covering her route

Then you make your way back down, eat lunch and do your normal school stuff
Nothing interesting happens
Go home, end of day

Next day, go to school, ignore everything unusual that happens and school ends.
However, you have work today, and head over to the convenience store. And here you are greeted by Tsubaki Hirofumi, your fellow coworker. However, he is a college student and...

Yeah... did I read that right?

So you find out he is gay and try to quit, but you learn that he is more than what he appears to be. Calm, collected, caring, senpai. So you continue to work after thinking about resigning. Soon work shift is over and you head home.

Well, I can't nothing happens at home, but you can figure it out once you play the game. You go home and sleep.

Next day, you go to school again, more things happen and you ignore them. However, there is one scene you can not ignore. You are greeted by the Student Council President and is forced to help her with her work. Her name is Mizuki Kirimiya, and is the other girl to choose.

Er... what do I say?

So you help her and then go home.

Next day you go to school again, same old routine, then go to work after school. Usual day so far at work, but things take a turn after taking out the trash. You see a weird person on the ground in an even weirder outfit.

A fairy huh...

After a pretty silly discussion with the "Cat Sidhe Fairy, Nekoko" you realize she is hungry and is given an option to feed her. What do I do to a poor person in need? Feed her of course~

You grab some bentos from the convenience store that are pass the selling date and give them to her. She cries out in joy and starts her "Fairy thank you dance" which you promptly describe as "An old Indian dance where people shave off all their hair and paint their faces" As she finishes her food, you decide to go back to work, but then she stops you turn a bit serious. She then gives a soft kiss on the cheek. Dumbfounded you go back, unsure of what happened.
Work ends then you make your way home, musing on the events that had happened. "Maybe she is a patient from a mental hospital somewhere" Sounds like an accurate description, but you can't help but be fascinated by her. She is something different after all.

Something I wonder as well...

You make your way back home, then go to bed.

Next day, normal day at school, but after school, you are invited by a classmate to hang out. You have been avoiding her at all cost, but couldn't refuse today. As you leave after the meeting, you run into a familiar person... yup you run into Nekoko again. Unfortunately, she makes a loud ruckus and you try desperately to ignore her, but can't as she physically collide with you. After she rushes off again, you frantically deny all claims of knowing her. And so another day has ended.

It's a Saturday, you leisurely wake up and decide to go out and walk around. However, unfortunately, you meet up with Nekoko again... Or more appropriately she drags you into this mess. She is being chased by a person with unknown identity and grabs your hand and force you to join her in her escape.

As she runs, she taunts the chaser. You desperately try to get her to stop as you don't want to make the situation any worse, but she replies:

That is not the point here...

... Ouch

He gets even more agitated by her taunts and continues chasing. However, you run into a dead end. You try to figure out why the angry man is chasing her, and realize it is because she spilled something on his suit and then provoked him to chase her... They show signs of wanting to fight, and you immediately get worried. She is after all a girl. However, she brings out a giant rod with sparks flying out of the tip... A stun rod huh... With that she takes down her opponent and you immediately grab her and run away.

After running away, she thanks you and gives you a kiss as well. You are taken back by her sudden actions and she suddenly takes off...

After a couple days of 'uneventful' days at school (you just choose to ignore everything), you go to work. However, you find a familiar figure laying on the ground. You wish you didn't but have no choice. Seems like she wants food again... You try to leave and ignore her, but she takes out a piece of chalk and starts writing on the ground. K A G A M I K O U H E I . You ask her the meaning behind this and she blackmails you, saying it is her last dying fairy message and the police will surely come and investigate you. And unfortunately you decide to feed her again. As you have no money, you decide to take her home for food. You go in the house and sneak some food out for her. As she eats, you question her on what she is/doing. Apparently she is looking for her "Fairy Home" and is searching for a way to enter it. You try to glean more information about this "Fairy Home" but can't really get a solid answer. She then seems to change a bit, unsure of where she is, then suddenly leaves. You go back home confused like usual.

More days pass, as you ignore everything happening in school, and you go to work. However... Nekoko suddenly runs into the store, pleading that you hide her. You reply with:

Unfortunately you decide to help her and hide her underneath the counter. Soon after, a group of college students show up into the store looking for "someone". They being to question you on if you have seen a person with a "completely retarded outfit, complete with a retarded hat" An accurate description again, but you reply with a no... then suddenly out of the blue:

WTF???!?!?!!

So she has your 'Magic Mushroom' and promptly goes to work with it. You try your best to maintain your composure, while trying to make the group leave. At last, you succeed and make them leave...

Next day, usual day in school, kind of. School ends, go home, and it's the weekend finally. You decide to walk around again. Then you find her... climbing a tree nonetheless... She is surrounded by people and the policemen are trying to get her down.

What the hell is that suppose to mean?

And then she finds you...

You try to run away, but the crowd notices you right away. She then jumps down from the tree, grabs you, and runs away. You then question her on what she was doing. She exclaims with joy that she finally found her "Fairy Home" up in the tree

You are delusional

Then the music changes to a serious tone, and she asks you for help in finding her fairy's home. You decide to help her as she is bringing color to your colorless life. She is overjoyed and decides on a place and date to meet up again to look for it.

Next day, you wake up and decide to go to the library, as you have time until the meetup. You decide to read your usual book, but a new one catches your eye. "All About Fairies" You pick it up and start to read. Finally after a while, the quite library comes in and barely manages to say a few words to you. She then mentions that the library will be closing and you realize it's almost time to meet with Nekoko... You hurriedly sprint to the designated meeting area and find her almost immediately. Unfortunately for you, you are late...

OH SHI*

Fortunately you live and she hears your cry of mercy. Then she drags you off to look for the fairy's home. You end up searching all night in a dark dirty alley. Questioning her why the entrance to the fairy home would be here, she replied with the story of ugly duckling, and says it is similar in that aspect. You two continue to search blindly, not even knowing what exactly you are looking for. Finally it gets really late and nothing is found obviously. You ask her if she is sure it is here and she replies with a yes, don't doubt me kind of tone. Finally she dismisses you and go home. It is 2AM by the time you arrive.
