Fantasy GSL has a league-wide salary of 5600 [image loading] for GSL 6, with each fantasy team restricted to a salary cap of 1500 [image loading]. There are 64 players total in the league seperated into two divisions: 32 players in Code S and 32 players in Code A. The salary is distributed as following:

In Code A, 3 points are awarded for each match win and 1 point deducted for each lost in bracket play, with 10 bonus points if the player advanced to Code S in the up-and-down matches. In Code S, 6 points are awarded for each win and 1 point deducted for each lost, with additional points awarded for every round the player advanced (final placement bonus: ro16: +10; ro8: +15; ro4: +18; finals: +21 points). Overall, a Code S player has a possible point range of -2 to +111 points, and a Code A player has a possible final point range of -2 to +46 points.

Between 64 to 97 games will be played in Code A, awarding a total of 128 to 194 points (with up to 80 bonus points for code S advancement). Between 70 to 109 games will be played in Code S, awarding a total of 568 to 763 points (including 218 bonus points). The complete league for GSL 6 is scored at 696 to 1037 points.

The expected value of a 1500 [image loading] fantasy team is between 186 to 278 points. If we use this expected value as a baseline score for an average team, each point is worth about 5.4[image loading] to 8.0[image loading].

Code A analysis
bracket, preview, pick 'em

As a whole, Code A is overall better value than Code S. The entire code A will provide between 128 to 274 point at a total salary of 925 [image loading]. Purchasing the entire Code A is an above average position with points valued between 7.2[image loading] and 3.4[image loading].

+ Show Spoiler [Code A points and salary distribution] +

  • 100 [image loading]: 1 player
  • 50 [image loading]: 2 players
  • 25 [image loading]: 29 players

Salaries and points are evenly distributed across Code-A, with the exception of clear favorites like (T)MVP (100[image loading]), (P)Choya (50[image loading]), and (Z)Leenock (50[image loading]). All other players are valued at 25[image loading], including surprises such as (T)Bomber, (T)TheBest, (T)Hyperdub, and (T)BoxeR. Any Code A player that advanced past the ro32 represent high value points for pickup.

Player needs to reach the following round to meet expectation
  • 25[image loading]: round of 16 (8.3[image loading]~3.6[image loading] per point)
  • 50[image loading]: round of 8 (6.3[image loading]~3.8[image loading] per point)
  • 100[image loading]: ro4 (7.7[image loading]~5.3[image loading] per point) or ro8 & advanced to Code S (5.6[image loading]~4.3[image loading] per point)

Code S analysis
bracket, pick 'em

In contrast to Code A, the points and salary distributions in Code S have an extremely wide range. Players are available from 25[image loading] up to 500[image loading], and the points awarded are also much more lopsided:

+ Show Spoiler [Code S salary distribution] +
  • 500 [image loading]: 1 player
  • 350 [image loading]: 1 player
  • 300 [image loading]: 2 players
  • 250 [image loading]: 1 player
  • 225 [image loading]: 3 players
  • 175 [image loading]: 3 players
  • 150 [image loading]: 5 players
  • 125 [image loading]: 1 player
  • 100 [image loading]: 5 player
  • 50 [image loading]: 6 players
  • 25 [image loading]: 4 players

This wide divergence is further compounded by the group stage of Code S. Each group are allocated two ro16 spots and will score 40 to 50 points each (disregarding subsequent performance). This effectively mean some groups will has more expensive points than others. For example, Group E cost 850[image loading] total while Group F cost 400[image loading]. This makes Group F players much more valuable than Group E players, without regard to their personal merit.

Salaries of each group
  • Group A: 775 [image loading] ( (P)MC 500 [image loading])
  • Group B: 500 [image loading] ( (T)sC.fOu 225 [image loading])
  • Group C: 475 [image loading] ( (T)LosirA 175 [image loading])
  • Group D: 625 [image loading] ( (T)NaDa 300 [image loading])
  • Group E: 850 [image loading] ( (P)San 300 [image loading])
  • Group F: 400 [image loading] ( (T)Lyn 225 [image loading])
  • Group G: 575 [image loading] ( (P)anypro 250 [image loading])
  • Group H: 475 [image loading] ( (Z)July 350 [image loading])

Furthermore, some groups have clear favors that occupies significant portion of the group salary. This made other members of the said group comparably more valuable, since at minimum one other member will reach the ro16. These idiosyncrasies allows for exploitation of the fantasy system beyond the personal merit of each player.

Player needs to reach the following round to meet expectation
  • 500 [image loading]: finals (7.0[image loading]~5.0[image loading])
  • 350 [image loading]: round of 4 (6.6[image loading]~4.7[image loading])
  • 300 [image loading]: round of 8 (8.8[image loading]~5.5[image loading])
  • 250 [image loading]: round of 8 (7.4[image loading]~4.6[image loading])
  • 225 [image loading]: round of 8 (6.6[image loading]~4.2[image loading])
  • 175 [image loading]: round of 16 (9.2[image loading]~5.5[image loading])
  • 150 [image loading]: round of 16 (7.9[image loading]~4.7[image loading])
  • 125 [image loading]: round of 16 (6.6[image loading]~3.9[image loading])
  • 100 [image loading]: round of 16 (5.3[image loading]~3.1[image loading])
  • 50 [image loading]: round of 16 (2.6[image loading]~1.6[image loading])
  • 25 [image loading]: round of 16 (1.3[image loading]~0.8[image loading])

Recommendations

  • Majority of Code A, with exception of those that are near guaranteed to be out in ro32 (for example, (P)Lure)
  • Group F with the lowest total salary
  • Excluding (Z)ST.July, Group H has the lowest cost for a guaranteed ro16 spot at 125 minerals
  • All 25[image loading] and 50[image loading] Code S players

You guys did this fantasy GSL way too short notice. I checked very often for the longest time to set it up and missed the few days before the season started and can't do it... Pretty lame.

As far as I know, currently you can only add your team to a group when creating a new team. I heard they're fixing it.

I would love to have the points for my Fantasy GSL team displayed next to the team as a whole in the same way as the NASL teams do. That would make checking my score with my friends in a group much easier rather than looking everyone up in a giant list.

The first place person in the fantasy NASL clearly hacked as he has nearly triple the salary cap possible spent. Been like this since day 1 and not even banned? Between this and not updating your website as well as opening fantasy GSL rosters 2 days before GSL started... What a joke.

I am not part of the FantasyStarcraft staff. I suppose since that my guide is featured, I should be considered "affiliated." Here's what the staff had said:

The kids there are making this happen on their free time, and sometimes that means Real Life gets in the way. They'll fix it. Stop being a douchebag.
