I'm Lyra, and at this very moment I'm 223, 18th in Medivac Alamo (diamond), with 71 games played (41-30). Highest in my div is Stalife with 429, 2nd place is 341, my friend trypt (Bubba) is 3rd with 293, and from there it's a fairly even gradient down to me. I was #9 last night, but had a fairly rough day gamewise today. In the end of today I had a small net point gain (addition/subtraction too hard to find out what it was).

I stopped playing after patch 13 came out because bnet2 was pretty shitty at the time, so I've been changing my play a lot since I last played. I've played very nearly exclusively terran since before the first patch came out, offracing only occasionally vs friends.

I used to always open 9rax 11gas 11orbital 11depot, and scout with that first reaper.

In tvz I'd make reapers constantly until I saw roach warren (at which point I'd switch to maurauder), walling in the nat with rax/depot/bunker and making cc after 2nd or 3rd depot (to complete the wall, depending on map). From there I'd add 2 rax and go straight to reactorport with an ebay, making a viking/medic then pure medic, adjusting my maurauder/marine/reaper mix based on what z did, then adding thors (with scv). I had a lot of success with this, basically relying on a large medic count to alleviate fungal damage. Against banelings I added more reapers to my army.

In tvp I didn't know what I was doing at all and never used any strategy concretely.
In tvt I was getting a quick port while making maurauders and getting reactor vikings asap (harassing scvs with them if no air to worry about), expoing and then getting a couple tanks before adding 2 rax. Early in the beta this worked pretty well for me, but towards the end of phase 1 wasn't consistently working.

So at the end of today, I've begun solidifying my new style, ceasing to experiment.

Now I open with 9rax 11depot 11orbital 11marine 12gas.

In tvz, I've been getting a factory asap, reactoring my rax after making 4-5 marines and getting reactorhellions, then making cc, and then basically doing the same stuff I described above. The biggest problems I've had with this is getting greedy and being too aggressive with my army, whittling down my unit count, enabling zerg to win with essentially an all-in roach/ling attack (I'll have killed a lot of drones, so this battle would decide the game, and I'll have suicided too much and/or not have enough bunkers when they come). On desert oasis I've been going thor drop instead of reactorhellion, but otherwise all things same. My other problem later on is against muta/baneling, but I think simply making tanks instead of thor once I see baneling should fix that, possibly getting a 2nd reactorfact for hellion as well.

I haven't been meching at all tvz, although everyone is of the impression it's strong. The vods I watched of terran going mech from the 17173.com world cup tourney ended in terran going 1-8, with the single win a very long, hard game; so I'm not quite sure what to think.

In tvp I've been trying a variation of Gretorp's 2rax ghost/marine build, with a fair amount of success. It does indeed do well against voidray, which in phase 1 was my biggest headache towards the end, but I've been losing against 4gate all-ins. A fair amount of the time it's definitely my fault, deciding I'm rambo and attacking protoss, losing most of or all of my army, or not making enough bunkers or something. I feel comfortable though, I just need to fix my reflex to attack as soon as my unit count hits a certain level. I've been staying on 1 techrax so far, putting my gas into upgrades and 1/2fact tanks, sometimes 1port banshee as well. I haven't really been bothering to make medics, or atleast not many. Making a lot of marines and just crashing them into the enemy, then running back drawing tank fire seems to be working, and storm/colos kill shit so fast I don't really see how medics could be useful aside from being dropships. I think I'd transition into bcs lategame with this, but can't be sure, cuz I've never had a long enough tvp.

In tvt I just started finding something comfortable towards the end of the night. Trypt told me that standard tvt is thor/maurauder opening, and while I'm not sure about the "standard" part as I've never seen a single terran do this, I did win every game I tried it on. On desert oasis I've been going thor drop instead of making maurauders.

Kulas and blistering sands have been giving me the most trouble mapwise, I'm getting pretty comfortable on the others, even desert oasis. Those two maps' backdoors are a real pain for what I'm doing.

I won't upload any replays now, because so many of them were me either experimenting or losing doing something stupid. The ones where I win aren't that good either, because often it was just my opponent not being able to cope with my build/strategy, or just being bad/failing a cheese. I'll upload tomorow's games though if everything goes solid. I was so lost in tvt for a while, I feel like I've got something I can comfortably use now in any mu on any map, so tomorow ought to go smoothly.

I'm playing so much because every job I applied to didn't call me, so my aim is to win my college tuition with sc2 tournies, with taking out subsidized loans as my plan B. I'm definitely not good enough to make that possible yet, but if I keep up my motivation and work ethic I don't think it's implausible. Tomorow I anticipate rising up my div, reaping the benefit of my efforts today. Hopefully after that I can start playing decent players and refine my play to work vs nongarbage.

nevermind I'm an Idiot.
I don't think I've ever wished my opponent good luck prior to a game. When I play, I play to win. I hope every opponent I ever have is cursed with fucking terrible luck. I hope they're stuck playing underneath a stepladder with a black cat in attendance a

I strongly advise either applying to more jobs, learning some employable skills, or do some volunteer work instead of assuming playing sc2 will help pay off your student loans. If your goal is mostly monetary, winnings from SC2 tournaments are (far) less than a minimum wage job considering that (from your post) you don't have a high level RTS background and therefore are going to have to put in an extreme number of hours to be able to reach the prize winning spots of a tourney, not to mention you won't get invited to higher prize tournies by being a known SC/WC3/SC2 player.

Yeah, +10. SC2 may be fun, but the amount of work required to get that good is ridiculous, and even then there isn't that much money in tournys atm. Spend the time getting a proper job, then just play SC2 for enjoyment.

On a more relevant note of TvT. I understood that the 'standard' tvt play is fast siege mode then a mix of marauders (or marines if you are gas low which you often are), and valks. The valks spot for the tanks which then destroy pretty much anything he has. I've found this very strong, and assuming you win the air war, almost unbeatable once the tanks start rolling out in bigger numbers. This can then transition into Thors, or even BCs (which I do sometimes for lolz, but that's usually once i'm slowly dismantling his base with my tanks, so the games in the bag anyway)

I have been playing 10 rax 10 depot 12 oc 13 gas into a 1/1/1 style of play for pretty much every game I have played. It is really versatile in every matchup, and I am too lazy to learn a real build for each matchup.

Some of the key things that I discovered is there are several different all in attacks you have a hard time dealing with without a marauder or two, so if you are ever unsure what they are doing early on, it is a worthwhile investment. And if you gert your first reaper for when you put your starport down, you can often save yoursdelf a scan, because it comes at a timing that most people don't seem to expect, and you can get a good look at what they are doing.

Terran is so much fun to play in sc2.

If you want to go Pro, gl. Theres on issue, you can't just use one opening build for every matchup (or similar) because anyone who has seen you play before will instantly know you and will have a tremendous advantage. No offence but i find it hard to believe you can keep your ranking by changing your play much since you seem to have mastered one build to the point were you win 60% of the time, if you changed your build you would suck at first, but would benefit you in the long run.

if you're losing to 4 gate allins i'd suggest going reactored barracks, fast factory, and go siege mode, and then transition back into a second barracks ghost academy.

I haven't taken out any loans yet, they're just my backup option if I can't find the money before next year. I may not have been a top bw player, but I played it competetively for six years and was b-, and could beat B/B+ players (albeit inconsistently). I do have some idea of what I'm doing here.

I don't use the same build/strategy twice in a row vs the same person. I know how to play series. And there's a difference between using same build/strategy and using same opening. One opening can transition smoothly into a variety of things based on how the game goes. For now I need to use a lot of the same stuff in ladder games over and over so I can understand its strengths and weaknesses best. Starting out doing a variety of different things is less efficient. Furthermore, I am capable of using different openings. I can easily switch back to my 9rax 11gas 11oc quick reaper, or go with the more popular 10depot 12rax 13gas 15oc. Any player blindly preemptively countering something they read in my blog or saw in a replay or noticed in my matchlist is making a big gamble, I'm aware of what of my play is transluscent.

I don't like the sound of that, seems like while it's definitely safer vs ground aggression would both delay my expo and make me somewhat more vulnerable to voidrays and early immortal pushes. I'll keep it in mind though if I can't find a comfortable way to deal with 4gate with my current build.

I hated zerg in bw I was just best at it. Before I quit for beta my tvz and pvz were probably my best mus in the game: I was venting all of my zerg anger by raping other zergs. I could never have fully changed race, I just knew waaaaay more about zerg. My pvt/tvp knowledge/ability just could never catch up. tvz was my favourite mu in bw though. tvz is my best sc2 mu atm. I felt comfortable the few times I pvz'd in sc2 too. When I played z a few times, I did not like it at all. But I was sold to terran before beta ever came out. The reliance on the siege tank in bw is what made tvp and tvt so unfun for me, but sc2 puts an emphasis on infantry and air units more: exactly what I wanted in terran.
