So for those who don't know, Common Application (shortened as Common App) is to apply to certain colleges in the US (about 400 are enlisted). There, you put in a bunch of information like your name, school, test scores, academics, extra curricular activities, etc. The part that is most difficult though, are the essays. You write one for the Common App and then write other ones for the schools you're applying to.
Anyway, I had a question for one of the essay topics:
A range of academic interests, personal perspectives, and life experiences adds much to the educational mix. Given your personal background, describe an experience that illustrates what you would bring to the diversity in a college community, or an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you.
That's one of the Common App questions and it doesn't make any sense on why it is; all the schools you're applying to is going to read it yet you're specifying a certain school; basically only one school will be happy.
So for those already in college that applied through Common App, can you pm me your essays? They don't have to be the topic I posted; I'm still not sure which one to do. Thanks

What're you talking about? You don't have to make it specific to a college, just explain how you and diversity are a good fit.

the essay prompt asks you for why you would be good in a "college community". it says nothing about specifying a certain college.

you are able to make many "common apps" and just change one thing for each one. just make a bunch of versions of your essay and make a "common app" for each of the schools you are applying to
for example, i submitted an app early but wanted to change it for another school unfortunately, common app locks your application so i just simply made another app and then submitted that one all the information copied over but i just changed what i had to on my second one

The question is about you, the college is hypothetical. I'm dreading even going to the site; the entire experience makes me sick to my stomach. Just a tip, if you've truly got nothing, write about Starcraft. I'm assuming you live in Korea, but in the United States an intense passion for Starcraft is pretty unique

I am sure glad I dont live in the US. Getting into a decent school sounds like hell for you guys. In Canada you only need decent grades and you are pretty much guaranteed a spot at a good school.

i feel like i'm stating the obvious, but if you are looking for some sample essays to give you a rough idea how to write yours, you can just google 'sample common application essays'. that should give you more than enough to get started in the right direction

Did you know that most schools now run every single essay through a plagiarism checker? Just FYI....

I saw the diversity question, thought it was stupid and chose to write about a personal experience that had meaning to me.
My common app essay was just an essay I wrote for my language class junior year talking about my experience growing up watching baseball. Yeah, in retrospect it was a bit lazy of me, but my essay completely worked. I got into my top choice Brandeis and will be attending there next year.
Don't feel pressured to write about how you were fucking president of your Latin club and captain of the tennis team. Essay graders are sick of reading that bullshit. What they really want is a nice personal story that showcases growth as an individual as well as strong writing abilities. Speaking of which, make sure it's well written and get at least three people to edit it.
That's all I can really say. I think there was a topic about college essays on TL, so search for that if you need more help.
