I've been a TeamLiquid lurker for almost three years now.
I finally made an account, first to thank the Small Vod Thread dudes for their efforts to get us the games we love.
I haven't played Starcraft in about a year and a half, and have no desire to go back. Starcraft II does not interest me.
What keeps me on this site for so many hours during the day is the personality of its posters. Rekrul is by far my favorite poster. His posts ooze personality. Up until TL, I hadn't realized personality could be demonstrated on the internet.
I do not participate in any other forums. I use the internet mainly for research, work and making money. I use it to keep up with the news. I do NOT use it to make friends. I do NOT use it to connect with people. I do NOT use it to make jokes, to laugh, to be myself--to demonstrate a personality.
But the members of TL do. And I applaud them for that. My respect goes out to you.

Tell us more of your observations about notable people besides Rekrul. It's always more fun to hear the opinion of someone detached/uninvolved.

Konadora -- relatively new (at least from what I have noticed). Such a sweetheart. Sensitive. Lovely. Hard-working. Don't watch your stream but thanks for the translations.
Clazziquai - Hate the band. Hate your music taste. Still, to each their own and maybe I'm just being stubborn.
NeverGG - I never understood photography, until I saw your pictures of progamers. Then, I checked out your gallery and saw some flowers. Fantastic. My girlfriend's into photography too. Secretly, I think you're much better.
Some dude named SuperArc - Not funny. Relax a little bit. Nobody's throwing matches. You know this, obviously. But every community needs an nitpicking pedantic. I thank you.
Off the top of my head... I'm not really into who posts what, so I can't really remember.
By the way... some of the writing in the blog section is fucking fantastic.

Will have to say that reading Rekrul's old shit was awesome. Progaming Gossip a few years back was pretty epic and helped connect and bridge progamers to us regular people.
Over the years, the site's changed quite a bit. TLPD is awesome btw. And the dedication of writers/translators/photographers/all the others that contribute that I've left out is simply incredible and helps make TL an awesome community.
Except for those trolls who need to get the fuck out and take a chill pill at times.

Most admins are great posters.
Hot_Bid is a really nice guy and probably the funniest poster I've encountered and on top of that his serious posts are very good to.
Alot of other admins come to mind as being very good posters; Manifesto7 definitely being one of them.
Out of the blue names I really like JWD. Among other posters I appreciate are Incontrol and Travis.
Oh and Nazgul makes the best posts in the mma threads, really good solid posts.

I lurked on TL.net forabout 2 years then I made an acc and joined the TL EVE corp. It's a blast. There's some really interesting people on tl.net and the site itself is amazing. Like you I haven't played sc in a long time. I'll take a peek at sc2 but probably stay a spectator since the community here is awesome. Whether it's blowing up space ships with the corpies or fanatically cheering and discussing games on kona's channel.

I do just want to comment that your use of the internet involves all things that are extremely boring (except TL!). The internet is one of mankind's greatest inventions ever and it has unlimited possibilities. I'd say its a shame you only use it for extremely bland things (bland in my opinion anyway).
Then again I'm a type B personality to the ultra extreme so I may be a lot different.
TL;DR: TL.net is by far the best because it isnt full of carebears.

1. You say that you do not enjoy StarCraft, have no desire to play StarCraft 2, and that you do NOT post on forums, make jokes, make friends.
2. Yet, you also say that you have followed TL for years.
3. This leads me to assume that you prefer to be an observer rather than a contributor. Not much of an assumption, since it is exactly what you said.
4. When you see people who observe and do not feel the urge to contribute, it logically leads you to conclude that the person in question does not deem his own opinion valuable to the conversation at hand.
5. Hence, this leads to the deduction that you have an inferiority complex, with potential social awkwardness.
6. I say this by starting my sentence with "I feel..." and my addendum starts with "with potential..." Notice how neither is conclusive, and neither claims any sort of educated authority over the issue - it's an opinion, and whether or not you choose to retaliate is your choice. Maybe you are not familiar with opinions, being an observer that does not like to share. There was no argument until you decided to ignore my advice of "Go out and post," simply because I tried to characterize, what in my opinion, was the underlying reason for your lack of involvement in a website you have been following for years. I already said, "You think it's about me pointing out your flaws in order to embarrass you?" Clearly your answer is yes, and you once again read things and go with your gut response without thinking about what has been said. I can tell you many things, but if I told you that in my opinion you were homosexual and a die-hard astrologist due to your post, you would probably ignore me and laugh it off. But when I say something that in my opinion makes sense, you respond with hostility. Once again that can only mean one thing.
So the problem with the internet is there are opinions that you disagree with, that you think are uninformed and false in YOUR opinion? Yea, I can see how a forum would be if you were to create one.
Your analogy makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, but you do have a point that there could be other reasons for observing and following a community without contribution. Although you fail to list your specific reason, I will list a few; when scientists study a group, in order to make impartial observations and deductions, they do not enter the group themselves; when people are in the presence of superiors or those that are wiser, they tend to listen instead of talk, because they are inexperienced in the current topic; people who simply do not have an opinion on the matter also observe as opposed to making an ass of themselves... There are others as well, although I am hard-pressed to find one that is likely to apply to you better than my first suggestion. Please enlighten me?
