Timo Tolkki is a douchebag, but Timo K is a an amazing singer. I find it's the keyboard that makes the sound of Stratovarius so awesome though.

Yeah Tolkki seems to be a douche, and Kotipelto owns everyone and their moms. I love his voice.

the first song I really liked from them is Kiss of Judas. But alot of their older stuff sounds almost exactly the same

I've listened to their new album quite some times now and the tracks that stand out immediately are the title track and "Winter skies" imo. Your thoughts?

Yeah strato is pretty good power metal.
I'd check out Dragonland and Celesty as they are my favorite two Power metal bands.
Nothing beats some good ol' Warmen either for epic keyboards if you don't particularly enjoy the vocals in Children of Bodom.

Stratovarius is cool, but it mostly sounds like Yngwie Malmsteen's stuff, nothing really new or original. It's no coincidence that Jens Johansson (the keyboardist, and one of best keyboardists in metal music of all times) used to play with Yngwie.
I remember trying to emulate the "Jens lead" myself few years ago

I'm generally not a metal fan, but this is a really easy to listen to song, and it sounds great. Generally to me, for a lot of metal, it is just really hard to get used to, and either sounds like noise or just scary.

I know I'm more KVLT than you are (Go listen to some Tvangeste and come back), and I listen to all genres of metal. Expand your horizons. There are power metal bands that don't sound like Edguy, that are awesome.

And what bands do you generally listen to?
Dragonland has enormous talent, you may not like them, but they aren't shit and Tvangeste is extremely talented (especially considering its a one man band). Why do you think both bands score in the high 80's to low 90's on metal-archives.
