If you want to be safe I wouldn't let it run for long intervals when it's really hot. You may be able to extend the life of your HDD if you turn it off periodically. However, you can generally buy a new HDD for half the price and get twice the size by the time it fails. In conclusion, don't sweat it. | ||

I wouldn't recommend using it as a primary hard drive unless you have a great enclosure. Those are generally really expensive so you should probably just buy a huge internal drive (1TB is so cheap now) if you're going to use it that way. Honestly, it shouldn't overheat and break if you leave it on for 8 hours. It probably does have an effect on the longterm life of your HD though so don't do it all the time. | ||

If your power supply goes, the entire HD will be useless. I have no idea why they designed it that way, but it's idiotic. | ||
