So every year I like to look at the JD Power initial quality survey and vehicle dependability survey. One of these things is not like the other:

One of my good friends drove a Hyundai Pony in highschool. What a pile of shit. It's exhaust upon startup has been deemed by the UN to be in violation of chemical weapon bans - which is ok because despite having booster cables permanently attached to the battery, the thing never fucking started anyways.

Who would have thought that one day they'd be whooping Mercedes in quality and dependability surveys. Talk about a turn-around. Maybe Chrysler and GM should pay attention to what happened. They could use a little rebranding themselves.

Hyundai is FTW man. I've been driving one for the last 3-4 years and liked my original 1998 accent that I bought a brand new 2008 one.

They are extremely reliable for the low cost and as of late they have greatly improved their product.

Go Hyundai!

I test drove one of those new 300HP Genesis coupes a few weeks ago. Made me wish I didn't just buy a new car a few years ago =P

I was pretty sure that I was going to go straight for the G37 in a few years once this car is worn out, but now it is going to be a slightly tougher decision.

That and I'll probably be broke and unemployed and walking to the food bank by then.

It's odd to see German manufacturers so low on that list :|

not odd at all when you consider that all they focus on is getting bigger engines and more complicated electronics in their cars.

I could go on a rant here, but the way it's now, I wouldn't buy a German car, no matter how bad our industry is off right now

Hrmm my mom just bought a 04 Hyundai Elantra and it seems to run very smooth and dependable compared to her 97 Lexus that it seemed as overnight the car seemed to run from reliable to unreliable. My 02 Grand Am GT seems to be running fine though.

Im looking into a Honda/Toyota/GM truck for my next ride

Its a well known fact for many years now that asian cars are better in dependability than american can. Europion cars are good but expensive.

I really dont trust German cars after I did a little bit of research and found that they tend to be really unreliable. I'm not quite sure why that is but the research shows them as being poor, this is no exception.

The reason I like Hyundai is they have been aggressively trying to change their image since early 2000's. It has worked a great deal and they have also made vastly superior cars to their earlier models. A lot of people see them as the 'low cost, low quality economy car', but really I think Kia fills that roll now and Hyundai is moving up in the world.

Still cheap but a lot more reliable :D

My family owned 2 Hyundai Ponies. The mid 80s models. At one point we owned them both at the same time, one beside the other on the drive way, you knew it was a ballers residence.

Surprising to see Jaguar on top of the dependability chart.

BMW might not be on the top of the charts for anything, but they are oh so nice to drive :D

Hyundai used to be the shittiest cars around in the US would rust and die in like 5 years but all throughout the 90's they improved it quite alot now they are good reliable cars to buy. Still a Small South Korean manufactures with a small percent of the market but a good car manu to buy from at least now.

I still okay buy form the GM line up as subsidies make them better for me at least in cost.

I just read this article in Newsweek about Hyundai's turnaround and how GM and Chrysler could learn from it. But it turns out the article was shitty, didn't give specifics, and was a complete waste of time. Fuck you, Newsweek!

I've heard the electronic systems are what's horribly unreliable, especially since the trend now is to make them more and more complex.
