It's just a normal blackout like if you got hit on the head with a baseball, which has happened to me before. Sometimes you can still do things during the blackout too, but most of the time you are too screwed up to do anything. To prevent this from happening again, you need to condition your skull like these Shaolin monks.

Yeah it was probably this, happened to me once or twice.

About the going to bed and forgetting it, I once fell asleep on the couch in the living room while watching TV, I'm certain that's what happened, yet I awoke in my bed somehow...must have sleep walked it;;

BP drop.
You get up fast, gravity starts acting on your blood, and it falls straight out of ure head. The heart is supposed to beat faster when you get up to counteract this and keep your blood in your head, but sometimes it doesnt do a good job or you get up too fast. Lack of blood to brain leads to passing out.
