Sorry guys...my cousin thought it would be better if I didn't talk about this on a public internet forum...so I'm taking the story down for the sake of discretion.

It is quite common here in Japan as well. Scams on the elderly are rampant, and it astounds me how brazen they are. Yours though, is crazy.

this was a really good read, that woman is insane. at least your family was able to deal with it before it got too far.

Aside from all the money she jacked from my grandma, we're pretty good. We managed to cancel the reverse mortgage, changed back medical information and all that...the only issue is that woman's son still has all of my grandma's financial information, which he used to apply for that reverse mortgage. -_____-;;

same thing almost happened to my grandad (mom side) after my grandma died. His roommate was conning him of his military pension about some bullshit business venture. luckily my dad dug deep for him and found out it was bullshit. Then my uncle's went in and got shit handled. its good that the legal stuff worked out for your family.

It's scary to think about the depths to which a person can be manipulated, against their own family. As if 60+ years (Don't know how old your grandma is) of relationship suddenly means nothing. I'm glad that it has worked out though. Also keeping the uncle on the inside was definitely a smart move.

Reading this thread pisses me off to the point that I wish I had the satisfaction of getting rid of that old hag (though I know it's hardly worth all the trouble that you guys were put through).

Glad it all worked out in the end! (well, hope it works out if there's still legal problems)

this happened TODAY to my grandparents. some shitty faggots came by and demanded 400$ for my grandparents for "the yard work they requested." Unfortunately, my family manages my grandparents finances so this is literally impossible. my mom had to drive over and start a shouting match.

We thought about it, but I don't think we have enough solid evidence to press any charges. It really sucks...but there's nothing we can do about it. I'm just happy there wasn't too much damage, aside from the checking account, which is like 3k overdraft now. I can understand where he's coming from...you're successful, but you have an older brother who's always been favorited because he was born before you? Your mom constantly fucking babies him and ruins her own life for his sake and won't listen to anything you say. I doubt she was in that bad of a position at the start...frankly, I believe that she really was a wealthy woman at one point in time. I just think she ruined herself for the sake of her apparently useless eldest son over time.

I can think of situations where I would do the same. They'd have to be pretty extreme but I'm not one to believe that because a person is family they can get away with absolutely anything.
