One time I had a job translating Russian math textbooks into English. I would do it simultaneously with other things such as AIM and Team Liquid and etc.
True story, I was deleting what I was writing in AIM during an argument with a friend by pressing Ctrl+A, delete. Accidentally I had clicked on the word processor instead of the window box and didn't realize it. When I realized what I had done I instantly pressed Ctrl+Z to undo it, but the computer started lagging - all the PPT charts, Russian font, English font, tables and images being deleted starting slowing down my computer to a point of standstill. In desperation I left my laptop on for the night to give it time to fix itself, knowing I can press ctrl+z whenever I get back and it is done deleting.
What I forgot to do was make sure the laptop was plugged in. I come back upstairs a few hours later after hanging out with friends, and I see my laptop is dead. I boot it back up. I restore file.
Fucking Microsoft Word auto-saved the file with nothing in it because the computer died -_-
At least $300 dollars worth of work on my part, gone. I didn't have the heart to do it all over again. I called the guy and told him I quit. He is my parents' friend's dad, so whenever I have to see him during New Years celebrations when my parents take me to visit, it is so fucking awkward and embarassing T_T

Reminds me of when I accidentally overwrote all the grades for a college course, except it wasn't your fault. Eventually, you'll be able to look back and laugh at it, but yeah the backup lesson is one that has to be learned the hard way :<

oh yea that sucks. 2008 Christmas year my server at my job crashed and the previous two months of work was not saved and I had close to 4k orders that had to be tracked down through the office and entered all over again. Oh man was that a bitch but I got paid a good chunk of money for reentering the data.

Backing up is the most important thing that most people don't do, and it fucking sucks when you forget to do it.

What happened to be, is my backup storage was the disk that died... I lost all my backups, and all of my music... But I have to say, this sucks more. I feel for you, RaGe.
