Preferences:
- ~$1000 pricetag
- Will run SC2 smoothly

I already have a monitor (LM729 by AOC if that makes any difference in compatibility), keyboard/mouse, speakers, and both vista/XP keys. (Your input on which to use would be welcomed)

I don't really give a fuck about a sound card, and cooling is important. (I live in Hawaii, and have had problems with overheating before)

Help me out?
Thanks

Wait so you live in Hawaii...not Rwanda?

Is shipping expensive?

Edit: From your profile you are white, did you just think it was cool to set it to some random country?

Something like this should work. Im not sure about cooling, I dont have any experiance w/ liquid cooling or anything so you'd have to figure that out on your own.

ASUS P5QL
E8400
4GB RAM
600W PSU
Radeon 4870

That (along with harddrive) cost me around 900 CAD.

Use your vista key (DirectX 10 FTW!) unless you can set up a dual boot then use both.

Hope this helped :D

EDIT:

If you are worried about cooling, get the Antec Gamer 900 2. Should be able to keep stock cooling on everything with the airflow that case gives.

The best way to avoid overheating is to get a good casing, it is better than replacing your stock cooling fans. If your are not overclocking your system, replacing stock fan is a waste of money.

By good casing, I mean those will good air circulation, preferably full aluminum ones.
I am using a Lian Li V1000, it is working great.
Buying a good casing might be a huge investment at first but it is likely that your case will stay for many rounds of upgrade.

Intel Core2Duo (Somewhere between E5200 and E8400)
Xigmatek HDT-S1283
Gigabyte DS (durable) mainboard
cheap ram
Samsung F1 Harddrive
some graphicscard with a big fan (i have a 4850 and you can fry eggs on it in idle... i think the real heat problem is here)

It's not completely extensive on all types of things that people can run into but i mean with half a brain and some reading manuals you will get you can put 2 and 2 together and do just fine. Computers now of days it's quite hard to fuck them up unless you just take a knife to the shit you bought

Yes. Because blogs are a serious forum, and users definitely HAVE to respond and help me.

If you don't like me asking for help, then get the fuck out of my blog and ignore it?

Thank you for all who replied.

(Oh, and I set my country to a random country because I am tired of being prejudged by people because I am from the U.S., and there is no 'none' option afaik)

Edit: I'm also planning putting this PC together myself... I just am not up to date with what parts are good deals, what isn't compatible, etc etc so I asked for suggestions)

being perfectly blunt there was only one build that was decent, and it wasn't specific enough because telling someone to get a "600w PSU' can end in a great way to burn your mobo in 2 months. although i am sure those that posted are informed and could specify.

If you're gonna ask us to build/list a PC for you or seek advice about a build, please answer all of the following questions:

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
3) Where do you live?
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
6) Will you be overclocking?
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license?

i know you answered about half of these questions already, so just ignore those that you answered in OP but I C/pasted this list and was too lazy to alter it

Cpu
Intel Core 2 E8400 or E8500 ~ 170
Depends how cheap you can find it
It's an rts i would suggest a strong cpu becuase rts tends to use cpu alot for guess what calculations although i would go quad core a great gaming one would be about 250+ but a great gaming dual core is shown above also becuase we don't know how optimizing sc2 will be to quad a dual core will be fine

Mobo
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P ~130
or
ASUS P5Q Pro ~ 130

Case:
COOLER MASTER HAF 932 ~ 150
One of the best airflow cases around and comes with decent fans so no need to replace them unless you are shooting for a quieter fans which cost premiums

monitor is a LM729 17" so
GPU:
1 Gig version of ATI 4870 or Nvidia GTX260 (216 version) ~ 180
W.e floats your boat they perform about the same no way to tell which one runs sc2 better until we have a RC from blizzard or at least a beta.

RAM:
G.SKILL Series PI Black Model F2-6400CL4D-4GBPI-B ~50 Best quality ram around for DDR2800 tight timings at normal voltages

HDD:
Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB ~70
Rom-Drive:
LG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model GH22NS30 ~25

PSU:
CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX ~150
620 over the 520 allows for a bit more room for expandability extra hdd's more ram etc and more powerful gpus
Very high quality psu although corsiar normal quality psu would do fine for about 40 cheaper there is room for this psu high quality psu makes rigs safer less likely to fail on you psu wont kill 400 dollars worth of equipment while dying
Also it's modular cabling so it will be better airflow in your case and less mess

CPU cooler and paste:
XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 ~30
Retention bracket
XIGMATEK ACK-I7751 ~10
paste
ARCTIC COOLING MX-2 Thermal Compound ~7

Imo but 2 extra sata cables extra long ones about 8 feet or 10 feet this will allow you to wrap your sata cables under your motherboard out of the way of the normal airflow and to the hdd and the rom-drive.

Cost is about 950 after shipping and tax it probably be around 1050 or less

I would see how you thing runs and if the gpu temps scare you like upper 80's I suggest you buy
an aftermarket gpu cooler from arctic cooling
http://www.arctic-cooling.com/catalog/main.php?cPath=2
Should make the idle temp drop at least 10c and make load temp far less due to a better cooler tends to not allow a high flux in temperature

Also i would start going with x64 vista just to use more ram and take more advantage of some otherthings. Buying 4 gigs of ram then getting robs of 1-1.5 gigs due to your gpu's ram and the max system ram of about 3.4 makes you feel ripped off.

I agree with everything, except the PSU, and maybe the cpu.

although both are personal preference and this list is a well informed build that you could/should follow and have no regrets.

for the Cpu i multi-task heavily, and prefer going quad a Q6600 is perfect. that being said the one listed is usually the hardcore gamers cpu of choice.

and now for the PSU i don't really prefer modular PSU's and for cheaper you can get a corsair 750Tx and it will allow more upgrading head room.

so basically just adding these options depending on your preference not really altering anything ^ ^

PSU I've always loved highest quality psu's most first time builders wont be able to handle no modular cabling with finesse to move it discretely out of the way.

Although a 500w psu can Handel a 260 or 4870 just fine 600w one would be best to handle any gpu. Although i am a deep fan of PC Power and Cooling (the current psu in my case) the similar priced 750w one i love to death it is not modular and would strongly recommend it if you don't want or care about modular cabling

The 750w Corsair tx and the pc power and cooling psu are very much equal in power amps and both being single rail are perfect

imo i would side with pc power and cooling i do 1 fan small in the back allows for larger heatsinks in the psu is my take in cooling.

But both are quality psu which would stay cool either way.

I to use a Quad core i care much more about multitasking then fps in a game. :D

O_o awesome, i also love power and cooling psu, got one for my ex GF the 750 pink one sf75 something iirc XD

a 550 watt can handle a 4870x2 : )

I think only basic organizational skills are required to manage non modular psu, but i have been wrong before.

750tx is still cheaper ;p

now for the fanboism test, what do you prefer nvidia or Ati?

or are you a normal human being, who buys whats the best bang for your buck at the time?

also i can't stress enough to anyone reading this how important it is to have a trustworthy PSU in your system.

Lol that price is way off it's half that price now...
That more like GTX 275 price

750 gig 7200.10 is off by about 30 dollars

A non burning dvd rom drive off by 4 dollars

E8400 price is off by 20

Corsair mem is off by 20 at that speeds and size.

Maybe that his build when he bought it err i'd say about a year ago 1/2.

the e8400 doesnt seem like the best choice in that price range anymore seeing as how the phenom ii 920 was selling for exactly the same price on newegg about a week ago, though i havent seen any benchmarks but i wouldn't think there would be a huge difference in performance (never know though). for anything between duals and the i7, phenom ii is probably the best choice right now.

phe 920 runs games fine but everything else runs like a mid rage intel i think around a Q8300 which is about the same price i believe?. An E8400 is still a much better gaming processor. E8400 is a much better oc.er and runs cooler 125w vs 65w.The Phenom ii 720 for about 100 is a very popular choice a great gaming cpu for it's price. The 920 is not the same although amd fan boys try to reason it out it's still a ton better then the pervious processors amd was producing.

some people might find the additional proccessing power more useful than a few fps though

btw prices on newegg dropped again right now the 920 is 169 while the 940 is 189 haha
