Asking a girl out is harder in person but that's really the only way you can go about doing it without seeming like a totally spineless tool! It forces them to answer and you can actually gauge their interest in you (or if you've completely caught them off guard). EDIT: And I read that flaked blog post, very interesting stuff! I too notice this trend, especially among my age cohort (kids in our 20s). Some people basically have no accountability, show up to events hours late, and generally act like selfish brats. Meh, I suppose we're all to blame for putting up with flaking. Personally, I think the main reason is... the internet. I don't know why, I just feel it is

it's something called bipotentiation.
at around 6 weeks into gestation, there is a form of sexual genitalia that is not sexually dimorphic. at this point in time, secretion of DHT ( dihydro-testosterone) will lead to differentiation along the male pathway and lack of DHT will lead to the female pathway. the genital tubercle becomes the penis in the male and the clitoris in the female. the labioscrotal swelling become the scrotum in males and labia in females.

I was talking more in terms of evolution thou, like the clit evolving after million of years into a penis or vise versa. I know it seems irrational because you need sperm + egg for sexual reproduction, but the first micro organisms reproduced asexually they had to have one or the other. I just wanted to know if there's any data/research indicating which came first.
Kinda of like the chicken/egg question.

My train of thought was if she's interested she now knows I'm available/like her and she'll contact me. If not there's no reason for me to go after her I'm not head over heals for her I just like her a bit. :p

That's NOT how girls work. The second she knows for certain you are interested, is the same time she loses interest.
Girls are used to being asked out, and they hear these "hey if you want to hang out sometime call me" shit all the time. When you do that, you're becoming like everybody else. She's in it for the challenge just as much as you should be. You want her to be seeking that attention, and you can never just give it. When you learn how to make her be the one thats trying so hard for attention, you'll be amazed at how easy it can be to pick up girls.
TLDR: It's all a big game, learn to play it.

I've gone through something like that with this girl I'm crazy about, and she definitely says stuff like "thanks, homie" and we have a great time together. To make a long story short, we have dinner all the time together and I'm waist deep in the mother fucking friend zone, so yeah... I don't think you really asked her out. I think you asked if she wants to eat with you which is totally different than asking for a date.
I actually asked for the date but got flaked out on, and I took the hint that she wasn't interested that way. :\ We're still close friends and I know we'd make a terrible couple, but it sucks.
