Following up from my last post on my decision to return to school and my progress in our TSB league: http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=90339
AirForce: No I've decided against joining the AirForce at this time. Despite all their benefits, I don't think it's my best option. I want to obtain my bachelors as soon as possible and from a college where I know they offer an excellent program for it. Also, after discussions with more people who have been involved in the Army, Marines, AirForce, and Navy, it's been heavily emphasized that they often will place you in a position quite irrelevant to what you wanted to do there.
ROTC: Yes Despite not joining the Airforce I will be taking advantage of their ROTC program (mostly for the tuition assistance, but also because the leadership classes will look good on my resume).
edit: For the first two years in the ROTC program, there is no commitment to the AirForce required. Afterwards, they will detail everything out for you before you sign anything. I likely will decline at that time.
RIT: Yes Instead of the Airforce, I am going for a bachelors degree in Network Security and Systems Administration (NSSA) at RIT. They offer an excellent program and plenty of opportunities for co-op and internship placements within the college as well as off campus within other companies. Also, they offer the ROTC program on their campus.
Boring Stuff: Yes I filled out my FAFSA and TAP yesterday, and on Wednesday (tomorrow) am speaking with one of the NSSA's advisers about what credits of mine transfer over, as well as any other questions I bring up. I intend on starting my tenure at RIT during the summer semester (too late for spring, and too long until fall).
TSB Week 3 After facing Khaymus' Vikings, I remain undefeated! (3-0) I am now guaranteed in the finals and almost assuredly will be facing Enrique's Chiefs again there.
I only made two big blunders on defense allowing big runs, but the Tecmo Gods casted Level 3 Fumbilitis on the Vikings runner, thereby stopping him from scoring within my red zone. Other than that, my Bears defense and offense overwhelmed him.
DA BEARS!
GG!

Misc Gaming I decided I'll add a section mentioning the games I'm playing and any comments about them I feel like mentioning.
Final Fantasy 3 (SNES - US version): I've never actually completed the game. I remember when playing it as a teen getting really far, leveling everyone up and all that. But then I'd get sidetracked and play a different game. Now I'm finally dedicated on actually beating the game.
I'm only bothering to level up those I consider the strongest characters in the game: Sabin, Terra, Stragos, and Edgar. Whenever I have another character in the party, I kill them in battle so my main characters gain EXP more efficiently.
Right now I'm in the World of Ruin, and have just finished finding Edgar again and having him rejoin the party. I'm about to go to Duncan's house to get Sabin to learn the Bum Rush blitz.
Doom 3 (PC): Another game I've once gotten pretty far in, then got sidetracked with other games. I've now started over and have a long ways to go. This is my favorite single player FPS of all time!
Misc Games: Some other games I play periodically is Soul Calibur 4 (XBox 360), and DDR Universe 2 (Xbox 360).
In SC4 I routinely kick my friend's asses. They call me cheap because I do terribly imbalanced things like blocking, punishing, side-stepping, and employing a mix-up game. One of my friends refuses to stop spamming attacks with every character in every round. And so I destroy him with every character. My main characters are Mitsurugi and Astaroth.
With DDRU2 I've worked my way up to clearing songs on difficult level with an A grade. I still have about a dozen songs to go before clearing them all with an A grade. I can tell with some of them, it's going to take a LOT of practice. And although DDRU2 is great for a cardio workout, this also hampers my playing time since after about a half hour I'm sweating my ass off! I usually burn around 200 calories per session.
NES/SNES Online Finally, I've played an enormous amount of NES/SNES games throughout my lifetime and would love to play more of them online against others. If you want some games in anything (Contra, Dodgeball, Super SF2, Mario Kart, whatever), PM me and we'll get it setup.

DA BEARS.
Also, if I remember correctly from JROTC, can't you only do one year of ROTC without an obligation to join a military branch?
|
Two years for the AirForce ROTC without making a commitment to join, as confirmed by Khaymus (thanks!) and the Airforce ROTC site.
Damn, I forgot the obligatory "DA BEARS!" phrase in my post... must edit...

FFIII/VI is one of my favorite games. Good man. Although some notable badassery spots should be held for Mog--he's a playable moogle, after all!--and Shadow. Besides, once you get to the end of the game, you've got to split your party into three groups for the final dungeon. If you've only got four characters with any sort of meaningful levels, that could prove difficult. Good luck with that.
We'll have to play some NES/SNES online again man. Perhaps this weekend? I think I've got Thursday-Monday off. I'll probably PM you. Hell, this could all have gone in a PM. Whatev.
|
Oh damn... I didn't know about that for the final dungeon! Hmm... Shadow's throw skill can deal some heavy damage, and his random automatic counter with Interceptor is pretty good. Cyan is a mediocre fighter and his sword techs take way too long to charge up. Mog and Gau have like one good dance/rage move, and I don't even know how good they are. I know with Gogo I can abuse mimic to do some heavy damage - for instance, someone casts Ultima, then Gogo mimics it and no MP is depleted when he mimics. Celes is pretty worthless except for a few battles using Runic. Locke is worthless minus a couple enemies worth stealing from. So... looks like my best bet:
Sabin Edgar Terra Stragos Shadow Gogo
Dunno. I'll find out if I get raped in the final dungeon what I need to do.
This weekend (Friday night - Sunday night) I'm visiting relatives for Easter. Another time would be better.

Mog can be used in a number of ways, all of which are valuable. My favorite is making him into a dragoon of sorts and giving him the jump ability (dragoon boots?), combined with a sweet lance/spear. With the right setup, he can land on people three or four times and deal a lot of damage. Alternatively, he also makes a really solid mage if you train him with your various espers. I think the water rondo is one of the only really useful dances, but if you didn't get it when you had the chance earlier in the game, I don't think you can in the world of ruin (not positive on that, but I think you have to do it in the serpent trench). Gogo is a useless bitch all around, not unlike Umaro.
Relm also has a super high magic stat, and while sketch is only really useful for teaching blue magic to Strago, she still is pretty useful because of her magic damage output.
Cyan can be used really effectively, even if you don't take the time to power up all of his techs. Plus, in the SNES version, there's some way you can glitch him out to go nuts on every enemy and kill everything.
|
I'm aware of the glitches/abuses with Cyan and Setzer (as well as the Vanish/Doom stuff), but I don't want to make the game THAT easy. What's good about Cyan?
You're right about Mog, I missed that dance. But I do have the Dragoon Boots (BTW, beat FF2 a couple months ago) and will experiment with him a bit.
I thought Relm was totally useless, but didn't know she has a high Mag Pwr stat. Interesting...
Gogo has limited usage, but my brother, who loves this game to death, recommended I have him in the party for mimicing Ultima.
|
Don't forget to get the cursed shield and turn it into the ultima shield! This is a must have!
|
Whoever told you that they'd put you in a job irrelevant to what you want to do in the USAF lied to you. You pick your own job.
|
Uhm... I don't think my immediate family would lie to me about that stuff. Maybe it's different in the AirForce. Their experiences were in other divisions of the armed forces.
|
I don't really see how good Stragos is. Locke was really nice with genji gloves and offering with his unique weapons, and if you use the MEvade bug you Relm was pretty good, especially with her highest base magic stat, although Terra's morph is just imba. Gau and Mog had really nice equips, though.
|
Stragos just because of his Mag Pwr stats really.
What's the MEvade bug? I'm avoiding using most of the bugs, as mentioned earlier, if they make the battles wayyy too easy.
What does Terra's morph actually do anyways? I've used it a few times, but haven't noticed an appreciable difference.
I pretty much disagree with everything you wrote there frankly. lol

EscPlan9 sound like you already plan everything out.
I heard that enrolling ROTC, you will get full scholarship. Anyway I'm from RIT (CS major) and I have 2 suite mates that are in NSSA. It's cool how the world is so big yet so small. Though i dislike the school alot, there some cool/smart people here and i got co-oped with IBM (now part time).
Prepare to be frozen. It's very cold here. Yesterday it snowed.. yes snowed.

I live in Rochester... I'm well aware of the crazy weather here
I got my associates degree from Monroe Community College, also in Rochester.
What do you least like about the school?
