Like Counter Strike for example.
People keep using my computer to play the game. I've uninstalled it but they keep reinstalling it back.

I tell them to stop, but it's no use.

So is there a way to "lock" or make the program crash?
HELP ITS SO ANNOYING LOL

Delete random files in the steam/user/source folder >=)

Or just don't let them use your computer =x

I let them use my computer cuz they're my friends, and I don't feel like manually typing the password everytime they need to use my computer which leads to playing that game.

Why don't you create a Guest Account which doesn't have any administrative privileges then yeah put a password on your user account. In that way, they'll be using the Guest account and wouldn't have anyway of installing programs in your computer
I don't think I've ever wished my opponent good luck prior to a game. When I play, I play to win. I hope every opponent I ever have is cursed with fucking terrible luck. I hope they're stuck playing underneath a stepladder with a black cat in attendance a

Hmn, best idea so far. But a hassle to do while allowing freedom for them to work while denying any way to get CS on the computer. =(

Let them frag it out and fail the classes. Then they'll drop out and you'll get new room mates who you can introduce to BW =D

Actually, they can still use the internet, MS word and stuff.. It's just that they cannot install some programs since they don't have the administrative privileges... Also, it's a great way of securing your computer when it comes to viruses since some malwares/viruses uses an administrative account to install themselves automatically in Disk Drives.

You're right, I'm sooo used to being Administrator that when I install programs and it asks for "This User or All users on this computer" I for some reason assume guests can too.

1. You're a retard if you let others use your account
2. A goddamn retard, that is
3. Create a guest account without admin privileges for them
4. Use the parental control feature in Vista to forbid running certain programs for that guest account
In XP there's no such easy solution, so you either install 3rd party software for that or you change the file permissions of the respective .exe files so that the guest user cannot run the program(s). Needs an NTFS filesystem of course, but if you still use FAT32 see #2 anyway

There are only two people that use my computer frequently (not all the time, but time to time) just for gaming, which annoys me.
That is all.

They aren't downloading porn or any of that stuff

What's your problem with this situation, exactly? When you want to use your computer for something, they're already using it for a (to you) useless purpose? Or you simply can't tolerate that you're facilitating their brain rot? (Just curious, doesn't really change anything...)

As deadbeef said, make a secondary account for them. If they're saavy enough to get around that (say by using a linux boot disk and wine or a ported CS version) then I'd say you really better have a good long talk with them about trust. Maybe that should be your first option.

Yeah it's the first one pretty much.
Most of the time I'm pretty okay with it. Sometimes I need to check up on something important or study for a test/quiz or whatever so yeah

I'll make a secondary account then. This should work out though.
Why did I never think of that? X_X

Thanks guys!!

One other thing, not entirely related to your situation but which I've found rather useful:

My roommates used to think it's funny to leave on on meatspin.com (NSFW) on my computer. I went to my hosts file (located in the system folder for Windows) and made most variations on that URL to redirect to localhost, on which I set up a "fuck off" message in big red letters.

In other words, you can easily make certain web addresses resolve to something else.

Find out what masterserver they use and add it to the hosts file.

i.e. 127.0.0.1 css.setti.info

edit: this won't stop them from playing with bots though..

The ban from BNET wasn't that big of a deal (this is pre iccup though, I think) but I had wc3 files on my computer.

I was about to say break their legs, which I actually did.

The guest account solution is probably best for this situation, good luck with that.

it sounds like you dont have 100% trust for your roommates (or friends or w/e) and in that case letting them use your computer for anything more than like the occasional email check is a terrible idea.

Well, physical access + knowledge = pwned. BIOS password can be reset by taking out the little battery.

Just curious: is this issue that you don't want them to play CS, or that you don't want the game installed on your computer?

Either way, the best way is to have a guest account, where they can't install shit. There are still ways around it, but honestly, if they're THAT desperate that they HAVE to play when they're on someone else's computer and not their own, then they're probably beyond help anyway.

Friends are fine, but allowing password-less root access on your personal machine is generally a bad idea, period. This is especially true if you have any sort of sensitive personal information stored on your computer (credit card numbers, passwords to important accounts, etc.).
