Hi all, lately I have been taken in by Maple Story, so I am trying to install it on my old computer. I successfully downloaded the game, but after the downloader extracted the Maple Story installer (maplestory.msi), the following error popped up:
Error 1606. Could not access network location \\(my computer name)\(my computer name)\users\(my user account name)\.
I am using a HP Pavilion zv5000 running Windows Vision Pro XP. I have tried the following "fix" from Microsoft, listed under the "Resolutions" section: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315352. I followed the instructions exactly, except I had to create the expandable string value "Common Administrative Tools" myself.
I appreciate any help given!

You might want to use the Norton Removal Tool to get rid of Norton completely, that might resolve the issue.
|
that is probably a sign to not play maplestory
|
Yeah... don't play Maple Story. A game that takes absolutely no skill and is for people who just need time to kill.

I don't have and never had Norton. I use ESET. I think you might have misunderstood the fix I used from Microsoft. It is Registry fix listed under "Resolutions". Thanks anyway!

Yeah, I will admit that it takes no skill to play, but I really enjoy building my character. These kinds of RPG elements are really hard to find in a free game.

God, the grinding in that game is painful.
Although you definitely should try the Technical section at sleepywood.net for such a problem.

Was your penis too big when they asked for verification that you should play this game?
|

wow, so many tossers :C
have you tried downloading the game again? does this happen with any other games? have you tried contacting the support sections or emailed the staff or anything like that? have you tried installing it in a different place?
|
Maplestory was only fun for me when I was playing with friends or family, especially good for playing with younger siblings since it's such an easy game (despite that they screw up often, my brother once played on my level 70-something priest and died to snails).
But too much requires you to be such a high level you could never dream to reach unless you hacked (which is pretty hard now) or played in all your spare time for at least a whole year.
The thing that stopped us playing was technical problems, just couldn't get the game to work any more, I'm glad.

I played MS for about a year and a half (maybe two?) and I never got above level 50, the grinding was just too ridiculous, I couldn't keep at it.

I have been playing since early February on and off, and I am at level 44 right now, so I don't know what you were training on.

I don't think that downloading the game again will work because the error pops up when the installer is loading, but I will try it. I did log a question on their support website a couple of days ago, but based on their previous responses to tech questions, it won't be very helpful. I do have the game on my newer computer, so it's possible it's just a problem with my older computer. Thanks for the suggestions.

Seeing that the error appears on the Microsoft website and pops up because of a Microsoft installer, I think the problem lies with Windows. I thought teamliquid would have more expertise than sleepywood, so I asked here. Doesn't hurt to try sleepywood too.

Shit, 10% for an hour for me was considered good. The only thing I liked about that game was the fact that I could simply pick up whenever the hell I wanted to. I could break when I wanted to and come back and do stuff, whereas if I needed to do something abruptly in an SC game, it's kind of hard to just press pause on my opponent, even if it is a friend.

If you can't install a game, its a sign that god is telling you to get back on SC

It's god's sign to you to stop playing computer games.
