I just came back, from receiving my blackbelt and certificate. I have been waiting for this day since the start of my white belt martial arts career, and now it has finally came. I am finally a certified blackbelt, and It feels so great since as soon as I put on that belt i felt different. The belt itself is twice the size and twice the length. Engraved upon it in Korean is my name and my blackbelt level which is Dan 1 (sub teacher). Here is a picture of my loot:

Th pour of hard work has finally payed of with that one moment! It feels way different when wearing a blackbelt, and I feel SUPERIOR!! :D The master, instructor, and other blackbelts were there, what an awesome night!

A blackbelt after only 3 years? Sounds like you study in the US

technically 3.5 , but blackbelt in my martial arts means the beginning of the road since there r 10 levels of blackbelt. Blackbelt 1 which is mine took 1 year study, blackbelt 2 takes 2 years and so on. Only 1 blackbelt 10 is there which is the current grand master Meyoung Jae Ok

Oh that makes a bit more sense then I suppose.

I just remember progression through each belt is a lot easier in the US than in the "native" martial arts countries since the US ignores the mental aspect of progression pretty much.

I don't know what you're talking about. Japan is known for having easier black belt examinations. This is just a facet of their mentality. People in areas like the United States view the black belt as much more of an accomplishment, signifying at least some degree of mastery while the Japanese view it as merely the first step in a long journey.

Congratulations on your black belt.

nice, i'm a black belt in hapkido. it sure felt nice to finally get one. however, my dojo requires 1 dan black belts to review all of the old techniques before learning new stuff so it got kind of dull to me. i hope you guys get to learn some new stuff as black belts haha.

i agree with DragoonPK

a common misconception for those who do not study or practice martial arts for an extended period of time is to assume that black belt is the "ultimate level".

i remember when i got my black belt in taekwondo they had a very serious 30 minute lecture about how white through red belts were just to get the fundamentals down. now that we were black belts we could actually start learning taekwondo.

What are you talkin' about man? Horse stance rules.

But seriously, have you entered into any sparrin' tournaments? I remember those being very fun when I was in martial arts.

Yeah I went into 2, one I won a silver while the other I got a bronze. I got a silver for a fitness competition as well as a self defense competition. World tournament of Hoi Jeon Moo Sool was supposed to be this month in my country however, all 18 participating countries complained because of insufficient funds to travel and the federation was not able to sponsor them all to get here, so it got delayed till next year.. Im practicing Hoi Jeon Moo Sool, which is a style of hapkido, umm not tae kwon do... Unlike them we focus heavily on circular motion, breaking joints and locking, while inflicting more damage based on "counters".
