Hello everyone,
to get it started I want to mention that I won't spoil you at all in this blog. If there's something that could spoil the game it will be in a spoiler tag!
So, I was so excited about that game since I'm a huge Resident Evil fan. I want to talk about what you can expect from this game and what you can expect, but you won't get.
Ok, lets face it.
Graphics
You can expect amazing graphics which is easily as good as Killzone 2 or Gears of War 2. It even uses HDR effects to simulate the switch from dark to bright sunlight. Its amazing how good everything looks and you can nearly destroy everything with granates etc.
I also think that the "gore" is really good. Its like not too much, but definately enough to enjoy it haha!
1-Timer?
What do I mean by a 1-Timer. Is it a game you can only play through once and get bored? No - definately not. I passed the game with my friend on Normal difficulty playing on Veteran now. We are nearly through Veteran though.
And you know what? Game completion is not even at 50% because you need to find a lot of things like BSAA Emblemes. (A PAIN IN THE ASS TO FIND).
Another thing is that you get a rank (typical Capcom) after every level. I can tell: Search emblemes and you won't get an S rank (best rank).
Ways to get an S rank:
- Be fast
- kill a lot of enemies
- with a good accuracy
- don't die
If you want a real challenge: there's an achievement for finishing all missions with an S rank, try that on Veteran.
Riddles?
Well, there are some kind of "riddles" but really.. I'd like to have a few more and harder riddles. Basically piece of cake and not worthy to mention. Resident Evil 5 is more action packed and less survival-horror.
If you want to get scared get Silent Hill V - Homecoming because it definately gets you more scared.
What happens in Resident Evil 5 is that you will panic, because you have like 10 pistol shots but 30 infected rushing after you - FUCK!!
Personal Opinion
Its a Survival-Action genre game and you are playing it like that. Lots of action, lots of "surviving", less horror, less fear.
Its fun to play and I will play it until I have 100%. And I will try to get a S rank in every mission on every difficulty.

I've been thinking about getting RE5. The only question I have that makes me waver in the decision is: How does it compare to 4? I played the demo... it feels kinda iffy =\

You said that you and your friend were playing - is it co-op? I definitely can't wait to play this game.. even though I really think RE4 was a step in the wrong direction for the series. It should still be badass though

Yes - it is co-op. Its hard to get co-op to work. You need to start the game alone with both controllers signed in a profile. Then press start with the second controller ingame. (We played on one Xbox - offline)

Less horror - even more shooter. Its still amazing, get it!

I stopped caring about RE after 4... I think I was the only person who actually liked the original series controls. Not to mention the new games aren't even really scary :/
I'd take the GC remake of the original to 4. 5 seems like a fun action game though

damm i evny thee..
i played 4 3times and just loved the ada's sotryline + ada's extra mission..
to be honest though, i feel 5 is lacking in terms of creativity, and the genre of resident evil..
4 was a success/failure because it introduced a whole new system and got rid of fixed camera angle with horrific background/music.. this was both good and bad for me but overall worked out because it was new.
so far, i heard 5 is just like an addon to 4 with better graphics and slight more advancements in control..
i will get it oneday when i buy xbox360/ps3 but in my book, re1-remake will be the best re in the series

The only thing that really bothered me about the game is, how weird the screen is set up when you play co-op. They somehow try to preserve the ratio of the picture, but I don't want to play a game on a huge ass HDTV and then get something like this:
Apart from that there is really nothing bad I can say about the game, because I loved every aspect of it. The graphics, atmosphere setting etc. are all great. For me it'S one of the best and fun games I've played in a while now and I'll definitely play through it a couple of times.

That doesn't bother me too much Poilord You get used to it and I talk with my friend all the time anyways.. I prefer that over a complete vertical or horizontal split

i actually really liked re0 too. It had imho kinda interesting system and yet still was scary and filled with action at the same time

ya re0 was awesom too with rebecca and carlos. (i think??)
best part of re1-remake and 0 was they really rendered jill's and rebecca's arse to the perfection.
ofcourse there's the brilliant music + soul-ripping scary background/camera angles which creates smooth nostalgic atmosphere but those are just sidedishes

Yah my friend had this days before it came out.. I dunno how and its pretty neat, I didn't play but it looked awesome. Btw thas interesting the way the co-op works we couldnt' get it to work at all. gonna try it tonight

If you want to play a good RE game, play the RE1 remake, RE0, or RE: Code Veronica X (RE2 for PSX is also good if you don't mind outdated graphics). This new trash they're shamelessly putting out on the Resident Evil franchise is just pathetically bad. Do not play RE5, unless you're a mindless tool who enjoys playing games that require you to do no more than point a trigger and press a button. The game probably sucks not much less than RE4.

Yep, mercenaries mode is in this as well. You start with one stage and unlock the next one once you've gained more than 20,000 points.
Once you've finished the game you can trade in the points you earned for some gimmicks like figurines, costumes, optical filters but also useful things like unlimited ammo or all upgrades for specific weapons.

Yes, it does have mercenaries. You have to beat the game before getting it though. Yes you can get special stuff. You can use the Laser in a bossfight once, special things you can unluck are included. (Longbow.. etc)

I loved RE4.
And RE5 looks fucking funny too. Unfortunately I don't own a 360 or PS3.... Maybe it will be released for PC as well. But when? T.T
