welcome to my world..

A long time ago the father of a close friend, an old geezer who was 84 years old, a retired physician and mentor, told me over a game of chess (where he was thrashing me), son, you can do medicine and have a woman, you can do medicine and game, you can have a woman and game but soon you will learn you can not have all three, medicine will steal all your time and the game will consume you like a jealous mistress; he beat the crap out of me shortly after on the 64 square board...

Although chess was maybe my first gaming passion I never realized how right he was until I first encountered StarCraft. The only solution really is sleep deprivation but sooner or later, the body gives; it is only a temporary solution : (

Game responsibly, and enjoy the moment while it lasts. After a while of gaming, the quality of the game played (especially Starcraft) just drops through the floor and down through the center of the Earth (see By.Flash and his game schedule during the two days in which he got pwned out of both Starleagues this season). Try cutting it down a bit, I suppose. Things are sweeter when taken in moderation. You won't regret doing well in school, and definitely won't regret playing only two hours of Starcraft a day as opposed to say, eight-ish (which is the gist of what I'm getting from the OP).

That's ok cloud. I'm just telling my story. I don't need like, validation or something. =) It's also not an incredibly exciting story, so I'm not sure why you would think it was a lie. If I was going to lie I would probably be selling crack to pay for my internet connection.

@SerpentFlame: I agree. That's probably why I tend to go on streaks. I'll play SC for a year or so, then stop playing much if at all for like 6 - 8 months, rinse, repeat.

- yup the English translation has some minor artistic license, the original comment was in Spanish, and for him there was only one game worth playing, chess, if ur curious his exact words as close as I can remember were probably:

hijo, el ajedrez y la medicina son amantes celosas, podes tener una mujer y dedicarte a la medicina, o dedicarte al ajedrez y la medicina, pero no vas a poder con las tres, tenes que elejir, te lo digo yo que ya la he vivido

I was a 4th year med student, his son was one of my study partners and the guy that got me into high altitude lake diving in the Andes (in the picture where they are eating over an orange table, he is the guy with dark blue shirt and mustache, he graduated as urologist more out of hobby than anything else, he spends most of his time being a diving instuctor/guide in high altitude lake diving).

Cool. Is there some particular reason to dive in lakes at high altitude?

- nothing particular but
- high altitude lakes and glacier lakes have one of the greatest clearest purest water out there
- many never have been explored, so basically ur the first ever down the deep blue
- most lakes the journey to get to them is half of the fun sometimes very difficult, it's extreme environments most of the times, hard to get to places
- very few people do it, so u almost get to know everyone in the world that is into it, small club feel
- to be honest we all do it to get the experience, there is nothing like floating around in the deep blue were the heaven and earth meet
- it's dangerous as hell if u don't know what ur doing
- it's very cold

I think in our modern age technology has evolved to become more addictive. The things that don't give us pleasure aren't used as much. Work was never meant to be fun, but doing it makes us happier in the long run.

Yo, sorry to bump this but my situation is so similar to yours right now except it's a combination of listening to music+chatcrafting on starcraft and surfing the web and it eats up my time like crazy. Recently I got a 50 on my english essay although it wasn't becuz of sc, it was becuz i didn't read the rubric carefully and didn't give her what she wanted. Regardless, I'm lookin to cut back on sc..I know it was ten years ago but u have any advice on what u did to cut back on starcraft? and btw what did u do with ur dam credit card xD!
We have competitive ladder, strong community, progaming in Korea going strong, perfectly balanced game..why do we need sc2? #1 ANTI-SC2 fan

I never actually cut back on Starcraft until I found something useful that took all my time, programming. I was addicted to that too, but it was more socially acceptable than playing video games.

Been there. As long as it isn't hurting other things in your life it's not a big deal. Do you get any sleep Yaqoob?

I wish I had the time to make this choice. I've played less than 20 games since december. I spend more time in the computer lab than I do at home.

I spend more time per day doing school work than I do sleeping.
