I've been trying to install Starcraft onto Leopard OS X 10.5.4 for the past little while without any results.

First off, I'm trying to install by the Blizzard store downloadable Starcraft. I chose the Mac version, and it gives me an Installer.app. Attempting to run Installer.app does nothing, no error messages, no screen, just nothing.

After that didn't work I checked out Blizzards support site and found that they released a native OS X installer. Found here OS X Native Installer.
That gives me another installer, "Starcraft Installer for OS X.app". It also does nothing when trying to run it, no error messages or anything.

I then attempted less legal routes by downloading a supposed OS X package of .dmg (disk image) files. I did this so I could actually mount a disk image in the hopes that the OS X native installer would see it and actually do something. No go.

When looking at the 'Get Info' for any of these '.app' files it seems they are listed as PowerPc applications. I think this is the root of my problem. Classic, an emulator for older Mac versions is no longer installed with Leopard. So now I'm not sure how I can run these installers without Classic support.

I don't have the CD's available to me so I can't try those. I was really hoping the Blizzard store download would work for me.

Hopefully someone can give me some instructions or point out some obvious mistake I'm missing. Thanks.

I just tried to do this a few days ago. Let me just tell you to stop trying right now.

Basically starcraft just won't work for some reason on many macs. Yeah I had the same problem of trying to install, even the osx version from the blizzard online store, only to have the game not even be able to start up.

The way to get starcraft on your mac, is basically to partition your disk, put XP on the other partition, and then install starcraft. I thought that would be ok, so I tried that, but there were so many god damn problems along the way. Basically I got to the point where I had to make a boot cd (another process in itself), just to install the updated version of XP. It took me like 6 fucking hours to get to that point. I had XP installed, but an old version without internet access b/c basically it wouldn't let me go back to my other mac with the boot disk b/c there was no update....fucking hell it's just ridiculous. Anyway, I decided to check out sc on my old XP version, and I was about to plug in my mouse and keyboard, and guess what....the mouse and keyboard (both usbs) don't even fucking fit @ the same time. I kid you not. I would need to get a USB hub. Yeah seriously, so I that point I just gave up.

Not to mention, even if you do somehow get starcraft on your mac (without XP, which I have come to the conclusion is pretty well impossible b/c Blizzard isn't making starcraft compatible with most macs), you can't alter things like mouse acceleration, or install razer mice, etc.

Please stop now, this was so fucking stressful for me and made me so annoyed for the entire weekend.

EDIT

Plus, I essentially wasted 6 hours for nothing during mid-terms. That was the real thing that pissed me off.

It works fine for me now. Try googling for help, I remember finding some site that found a way around it.

I've been googling for awhile. I think the problem is that most people have the actual CDs and those apparently work with the Starcraft OS X Native Installer.app that Blizzard provides. I'm trying to install through the Blizzard store download.

As far as I can tell, that just links me to the Blizzard download page. I've made sure to choose the Mac download link form inside the Blizzard store.
Am I missing a link in there that's really obvious?

Dude trust me when I say stop now b/c I had the same problem as you. I downloaded from the blizzard web page as well, and installed, and the exact same thing happened.

It's not your starcraft, it's the mac. Blizzard is even aware of this problem apparently, but hasn't done anything.

I have installed Starcraft on my Mac laptop from disk images fairly recently, and it worked fine.
PowerPC is not the same as Classic, you should be able to run the installer with Rosetta no problem (this should be handled transparently in fact.) It's only StarEdit that still needs Classic.
Does the installer not launch at all? Error messages? Anything?

If it's really not working at all I could try uploading my installed SC folder, it's only 150mb or so. If you still have the BW disc image I think it should run fine.

I certainly wouldn't just give up, the mouse acceleration is fixable with USB Overdrive, my razor mouse works fine, etc etc. The only total failure is ICCup. And Python 1.3.

This is my first post by the way, I thought I'd keep quiet until I had something useful to say.

Hello TL.net.

Thanks for the help.

It's giving no error messages at all. Running the Installer.app from the Blizzard store download does nothing. Same deal with the Starcraft Native OS X Installer, try to open it and nothing happens.

I still have the images so whatever help you can give would be awesome. Thanks.
