Ah. Watching replays.
I hate it. But I guess I have to.

I actually stopped playing starcraft a few weeks ago. Got too much with school, training, actually having (/wanting) to see friends etc. I didn't have time for everything I wanted/had to do and realized there was one big time sink that had to leave the equation... Starcraft :S
Now it's only installed on my notebook (where all the colors are scrambled :S anyone know how to fix that btw? running windows 7 beta on it, and it wont run in compatibility mode... anyway, less thread stealing..) so I can watch replays on it.
Still gonna follow the professional scene like always, but just can't play it before summer.

if you're a D- or D or D+ or hell even C level player, this is the time where you can get games against people far, FAR better than you. Seek out the people with the 5-0, 6-0 and better records and play them. You will lose, but you'll learn more about your own play this week than you will at any other time.

ok I just played this game and was like "wtf happened here." I opened with 9 pool speed and he did a 2 gate build. I literally had no idea what the hell to do in this situation. I know I played D- terribly, mins stacking up, teching muta and lurk at the same like a retard because i didn't know wtf was going on, stupid building placement, bad macro ect. I was just wondering if you could give me some insight on how to play against this build. I guess hydra/lurker would have been the not retarded thing to do? Also, how can I take a third without like 50 zeals a+moving and raping my face?

This thread has inspired me more than any other on TL to play. Last season was the first that I didn't have the urge to play or get better. This weekend I am mass gaming (full time school+full time work+rowing) and getting back into it.

Ret the only reason your not A is because of speed.
Your tactics/macro/micro is all amazing. You just aren't fast enough. Add 50-60 apm to your game and I promise you will get A and you know it !

Even though I've had an account here at TL for about two months, Until today I had never played a game of Starcraft against a human opponent. I got into starcraft because someone mentioned TL in a post on the forums at Sirlin's website of all places. I came here and watched some pro vods, and even though I had very little idea what was going on, It looked pretty sweet.
I downloaded the game on my laptop, but it's a mac so I couldn't use the iccup launcher and I didn't have a CD key to play on battle net, so I just screwed around in the campaign and against comps and watched replays.
This thread motivated me to finally download the iccup launcher on my family's PC and play online against human opponents. I played 11 games. I lost 9 of them, and I'm 100% addicted. Hopefully by the end of the season I'll actually know what I'm doing...

More like, I completely abused him one game.
And not only did I played even better in the second game, but I lost 100% straight up in a macro war. He fucking outplayed me and scouted and multi-tasked so consistently all game that it drove me insane. I was ahead at one point at least 4 bases vs 1 mining and still didn't win~!~!~!

You most sympatic problem all game was army placement. In defense against drops and vulture harass there were many points where you had your units almost where they needed to be, but not all the way there.
Now stylistically I will talk about my vs mech idealogy esp vs my vs fantasy mech idealogy.
I would never upgrade range before speed no matter what. Even vs wraiths range first is worse, against 1 wraith or 2 its fine, but against 4 or more, it is less effective then speed. Every game I play against mech esp against preasure mech, I go speed first with my hydras. Then after I get my first 6 hydra and I still have my initial 4-6 lings, I use lings to clear a path around the map to preasure. This means he can't drop because his 1 factory vultures are now having to deal with 3 hat hydra. I think playing it slightly more aggressive relivies alot of the harassment of terran.
Now I think you still came out of that harass ahead. I noticed after you forced terrans CC to lift, you neither expoed immediately or spired. I think you drone whored far to much. If you had settled for basic 1/1 drone/mineral ratio during the attack, you could have had your third and spire up sooner, before he could safely go valks. So I think late spire, and 10:20 third, are suicide, even vs 1 base mech.
After that your largest hit was twice allowing him to completely molest all of your drones at your third. The first time you had 1 hydra on the bridge .... one fucking hydra? That is brilliant, you'll be able to deny any single scouting scv other then that your fucked.
Also, you went muta against valks, which is fine, and even got your +1carp immediately, but instead of using your mutas to spread him thin, you were militarly aggressive. I think since you were so low on hatcherys you had no choice but to try and bug his second or third bases and avoid any aggression.
After you deny expo, if your broke, instead of going muta, I think hydra/lurker drops will be done by the time he retakes expo, and you can spread him thin while you mass mass muta.
So defend even slightly better then you did, time your tech transitions to be a little more rapidfire, don't leave single hydras to defend 6-7 drones.
I think with a few modifications to your defence and tech timings you would have completely round housed his homo play in the face ^^.

I disagree with most of your analysis except for the obvious mistake of letting him snipe all my drones. But I think it's just that we have different ideas on how to best fight mech, both could work if executed well. I like range because it keeps your hydras slow for a long time, leaving terran guessing if you're going all out 3 hat hydra or if you're getting a really quick spire.
And you really do need drones eco to be able to fight mech, another mistake I made was not making 4-6 scourge with my initial muta because he starported so valkyries were very likely, and indeed the 3rd was a little late. Defense vs harass can always be better of course. I should have maybe powered even more because he was low on unit and camped to his 3rd for a while, getting more expoes and faster hive/defiler. Agression really will get you nowhere vs mech, at one point you need mass units and defiler/ling to be able to fight a good player doing it. (good players won't die to drops unless you're really ahead) Once he had 4 valkyries and the middle camped defiler/mass crackling was really the only option, he had a vessel too so he was just gonna own mutas bad, and was able to mass tank cuz muta threat was neutralized..really tough.

Thats the thing. I think you had the game in the bag. You had him forced into gol/tank from (as far as you know) 2 or 3 factorys, this can play out exactly like zvp(5 hat hydra/muta) or even hydra/lurker.
Most of my analysis is about the decisions that are possible from the time his CC lifted until you had your third mining.
Why would you want him guessing about hydras btw? I want terran to always think I'm going pure hydra at all times. Otherwise how do you force him into over producing tanks/vultures?
We do differ alot in approaches. Although the way you played in the vs mech thread, is exactly how I approach it.
Oh and the drops are ... 2-3 lords of hydras, I do'nt doom drop. I delay drop. I don't actually intend to win from them, just inflict damage, pick off depots/turrets. nothing major.

the way i played it in the topic is the way i still play, mass drone as much as possible and get units in time to stop a mid game push, then get big for late game.
maybe drop could work vs an 8 raxing terran whos low eco and then on top of that if you kill scvs / make scv lift cuz he'll be low on units/eco... i haven't really thought about that too much
i want him thinking fast spire so my first hydra push can do a lot of dmg

I agree I like the way you play it.
I just like to show my hand, force him to go early tank, earlier second fact. Delay his Acad/Ebay so even if I can't stop his expo, I ruin his standard timing.
Drops are a way to keep preasure on when mutas and front door hydra can't.
I think doom droping is just like saying " here is a free win"

Then they lurk contain me and my obs are late because I've been trying to get templar/storm, and they have overlord/scourge there just to make it even more fucking gay. After I break out they have 5 bases to me 2/3 and power drones, with marching ling/ultra/scourge/ovi armies. What the fuck?
