Thats it - Season 7 is over and Season 8 is about to begin.
While I'm sitting at work and have nothing to do I want to use my time to review my season - what happened - what did I learn.
First of all I want to mention that the rank you achive is worth as much as the effort you put in. Huh? You don't get that? Ok - I really saw a lot of people this season dodging or abusing against friends.
I heard lots of excuses. Koreans lag, Koreans only cheese... maybe Koreans are just better because they don't mind losing. Because they are better because they don't bitch after losing to a non-standard build. Maybe Koreans don't waste time with discing.
If anyone who achieved a high rank with abusing is reading this. Are you proud of what you achieved? Are you proud having a cool-looking rank with a good-looking record without putting effort and learning like - nothing - in 3 month? Well, have fun then!
I for myself can't deny I'm a player that looks after stats. Yes - that was before this season. I finally realized that I don't need to have a good record to be a good player. I wanted to learn. I played on the Korean maps as much as possible (when they were MOTW) and played as many Koreans as possible and picked the ones with good stats.
Examples:
TvP vs Kor-FORCE (55-0 Korean on Medusa aka: InteR.sSam) TvT vs In_Fighter (39-0 Korean on Medusa / he was an abuser though and got what he deserved - a loss)
And various other games against really good players. I mostly "dodged" foreigners because I just wanted to play against Koreans, but I obviously played foreigners because in the evening Korean players are rare. (Note: Koreans don't lag 90% of the time, 10% are laggy games for me and I will just say "sorry" and leave)
I played about ~300 games with my main account this season: mTw.NarutO achieving at best a B rank. I'm proud. I was stuck at the C+/B- level for like .. 150-180 game? I was frustrated from time to time, but I gained lots of respect. For example ToT)ret( said that he was amazed that I didn't give up. I'm proud of myself, because of that. I don't have a good record, in fact I've a negative one, but who cares.
I was B - with playing lots of Koreans - not giving up. I want to thank all the players who helped me to get better and supported me - in skype - on battle.net and in real life.
Shoutout to:
mTw.Gan mTw.iNfeRnaL mTw.HoRRoR mTw.Pidgin SL.aCe NvG.Delphi ToT)ret( Jared chOsen ToT)Aerials( Plexa ...
and a few more ! If I didn't write you down, don't worry, I haven't forgotten about you ;p!

This is a replay pack from my 6000th post, which means not too old against some really good players. I'm Terran btw!

I respect players a lot who get B/B+ during Korean hours playing Koreans. There is a lot of people that get B-/B playing when Koreans are sleeping or playing maps they know that Koreans don't play and they have good stats but they aren't even good players. Good job. You are truly someone who deserves your B rank

Could you please make a rep pack and host it somewhere? I'm also like you too, I usually play korean hours (2 hours earlier from writing this post) and I dont dodge anyone, tho I used to play bw 3 years ago but started again 4 weeks ago achieving C- rank as a z only player. managed to go D+ as toss too (yeah!) lol. But ye I think I did well for a 4 week comeback to get C- after all this time I didnt play. grats on ur B rank hope seeing some gosu replays from you

Thanks for posting the link, I'll add it to the OP!

good job silv, i was kinda confused looking at your record being in the negative, since i know your better than me, i got my B- easy this season, but its a combination of late season and playing motws that i like but they aren't really courage maps and not many koreans would join, i didnt dodge anyone on purpose but thats the way things worked out, so yeah some peoples ranks are worth much more than others.
|
Finally, this is like the first 'real' B- ive seen on this site.

I greatly respect a rank that's achieved by playing almost all koreans, without dodging, on popular maps that koreans play, and authenticated by demonstrating that you can hold your own at that rank. Congratulations!
|
Congrats bro! someday Ill reach the B's!

Haha .. well yeah I was B for a few games.. ! I ended up B- 6992 .. I count that as B

It is indeed the first important step to really getting better: Understanding, that good stats are useless and that stats just do not matter. They just dont...
|
Hehe exactly as besiger said i got basicly same stats as him for B- with like 44-6 but i played only tau cross and basicly no koreans at all i just created and ppl joined but that was like last 10 days or so from this season.
Then I needed 40 more games to get to B with ~50% win ratio playing B- and alot of B rank players so i hit B with 64-28 but on this acc i played like 5-10 korean players.
In early/midd season i got C+ with 68-52 playing alot of koreans so ye koreans are way better than everyone else even the koreans with "bad" stats. Some ppl got even A- with good stats dodgin all koreans but they will lose for sure to Naruto with 50% wins B-/B rank

I want to play on nonkorean times for once -_-

congrats man! and yeah im still trying to get over the record thing but i gotta do it someday ;P spring break is coming and i plan to get dominated but hopefully learn somethings ;D
|
This is so true. Even C+ koreans are good. Can't imagine hanging at B/B+ against them :p
but this is totally the right attitude
|
Anyone who fears and dodges someone just because they're Korean is a moron, the AVERAGE korean below like A rank is no better than a foreigner of similar rank.
Anyway congrats on the B-, I tried to make the push from C to B- on the last night but ended up with like ~5800 points when the server went down due to people (mostly god damn koreans) disconnecting on me -_-

There is a definite difference between koreans and foreigners at the D to C+ ranks at least, and I would expect the same on other levels.

Hmm I really don't think so, seems like an irrational fear to me, look through the Korean rankings and there's an absolute shitton of total newbs.

I think iCCup talk in general has become really pathetic. There is no proper way to play iCCup. Here is a list of made up 'rules' that I've seen so far on TL. By rules, I mean the way to play if you don't want to be criticized.
- Play people your own rank; forget the fact that the system adjusts the points you receive depending on who you're playing.
- Play a healthy amount of koreans, if your match list doesn't have a certain amount of Koreans [that amount is interpreted on a case by case basis], you're going to be called out on it.
- A certain amount of your opponents on your match list must have a winning record [that certain amount is also interpreted on a case by case basis]. If you don't have this, there is going to be some guy that posts a SS of your match list that has been photoshopped to show how many bad players you beat.
I am sure there are some others, but these are the latest ones I've seen. If your thinking that this only happens to people who post brag threads about their iCCup ranks, you're wrong, because I have seen numerous threads where a certain player is mentioned and others dig through their match list to check for the above criteria.
EDIT: Oh yes, and to post about this past season, I thought it was extremely easy. One of the easiest seasons I've played yet. It could be due to any number of reasons, but compared to prior seasons playing at similar times, I felt as though this season was one of the easier ones.

It wasn't easier... more good people playing (many progamers played this season, probably more than ever) = higher skill level but also the fact that many people playing will help eachother reaching higher ranks (until you lose more than you gain from your rank). So naturally, there was a lot of 'bad' C+/B- players in comparison with earlier seasons.
Also, Naruto, you didn't strike me as the humble and hardworking type ret described you as after yelling 'lucky noob' several times when we played.

Perhaps that was it. I am simply basing this off of the fact that last season in the last week, I still found C+ really hard and getting B- was very hard; as a matter of fact, I didn't get B- last season. This season, the last week was extremely easy and getting B- wasn't difficult at all.

Congratz! I love your perspective. I try to follow it myself (at much lower ranks) but it is definetly frustrating. Iccup rank should not be synonymous with skill .

Ye when a player does the same strategy all the time it just fucking pisses me off. Also watch over the replay where my tank bugged and got killed , but whatever. If you wanna brag about your win, congratz! Also probably you should play 90% Koreans and get crushed and being not frustrated. Can happen to anyone. Usually I just leave with gg or ragequit when I'm pissed.
But you were never angry and ragequitted or something right?

I think you can say that about Korean Terrans and certain match ups since Terrans are most likely always 1 or 2 ranks above the rank they reach and foreigners are usually 1 rank below they reach because they stop at the beginning of like A- because they know they just hit A- with abuse and will die hard against other A- players.
But for Protoss and Zerg I'd say Koreans on B are the level of a B+/A- (without abuse) foreigner. At least thats what I've experienced - on the second hand I'm TRYING(!) to face as many Koreans as possible but since I usually work at Korean hours its just impossible for me to judge overall.

I can understand everyone feeling frustrated at times, I do it too... but I've never taken it out on my opponent unlike you. I also don't like how you're implying that I should feel 'proud' about beating you one game, as if you were some kind of progamer or even a top foreigner. The only reason I remembered the game was because you were acting like a jerk. You also came off as a jerk when you started whining at me for asking for a game when I was 1 rank above you - it was a bit uncalled for since I had already been looking for games in the B channel for minutes. Earlier in the season, I was almost soley playing koreans and getting bashed hard too. The only times I ever dodge is when infamous hackers or badmannered people like you ask me for games.
