Anyone have any experiences with this? My nhl got ruined by my console, and I think it just ruined my friend's COD.

I plan on calling xbox, but what is their policy on this? I tried returning my NHL 09, but the store wouldn't accept it. Anyone experience this??

Its a pretty common problem I think. Xbox is not kind to discs.

Yes, it happened to quite a lot XBOX 360 owners, including me. Their policy is absolutely ridiculous: You can send the damaged game and about 15$ to them and they will repair it. At least that was their policy when I tried to get my games replaced. FYI, the scratching only occurs, if the XBOX gets agitated while running. Just make sure your XBOX is firmly standing.

Yeah you should never move your console when there is a game in it. If your gonna make an adjustment I strongly advise to eject your disc just to be safe. It's cost me a disc because I wanted to move it from horizontal to vertical position while playing. I also think the horizontal position is much safer in the first place. There really needs to be some warning about it though as I had no idea this could happen until it did.

one time my friend moved his console when a game was in it, and a horrible grinding noise ensued. we looked at the disk after and it was sooooo fucked up.

were you doing anything w/ your console when you were playing? or was it just sitting there?

Yea, don't move an xbox360 that is running. It messes up your disks pretty easily.

people don't realize that a disc is wobbiling crazily when its spinning at high RPMs, so any minor tap or whatever can cause that wobble to fluctuate and break the disc or scratch it on one of the many surfaces inside the machine.

youtube mythbusters exploding cd for vids.
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

As long as you don't touch the console while a game is running this shouldn't happen. However I must say that the Xbox360 is like TOO sensitive, fuck I even had my ps2 fall over and land hard onto the ground with GTA 3 in it and it still ran perfectly afterwards, and yes, this happened while the ps2 was running and while I was playing.

Then my friend accidently taps the Xbox with his left foot while we're playing gh2 and the game breaks immidiately.

This is pretty common... I believe not too long ago, Microsoft let you buy a certain game (I think it was Halo 3? maybe? or maybe Gears of War... something like that) at a cheaper price. Actually, it seems to apply to all discs, unless I'm missing something.

http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/xbox360/gamesandmedia/games/discreplacement/DiscReplacementPlan.aspx

I've knocked my Wii over multiple times (the stupid Gamecube cords are too short) while playing Brawl and some Gamecube games... I was pretty amazed they were hardly scratched and ran fine.

Oh to the topic:
I have had friends with scratched disks and the ring of death....I been debating on a ps3 and 360 for a while now...I am so confused...I want quality.

So the question comes up?

Xbox 360 or PS3???

Or am i trying to jack this thread?.....

The ring of death thing isnt really a problem now cause the 360 models they are selling now are different and upgraded quality. I got one for my sister this past christmas and I had one for about 2 or less years and it was significantly quieter than mine was at Day 1. Also some of the designs on the xbox itself and the power box were better and i checked the dvd drive model and that was the newer one too. Although you still shouldnt try to move it while its playing. If you scratch your discs that way its usually accidental but a bad accident ;; I think the problem comes from how the dvd is loaded, compared to a ps2 or a wii

xbox 360 is known for a abnorally large defect rate for a gaming console i'd go with ps3 if you are afarid of having to return it for one that isn't broken in like 2 months or if your a FF fan it's bound to work out really it's choice by core games i got a wii becuase i play party games alot with my friends cuase FPS are gay.

/obligatorydisagreement

360 may have a bad rep for quality, but I think those problems have been more than ironed out. It also has, in my opinion, more great games, and a much better online experience.

At the end of the day, its purely a matter of tastes. I'd go with the 360, though, all day long.

My x-box scratched my Rock Band CD so it would not even load anymore.
Luckily i was able to polish away the scratches, and now it works fine.

If you DO try to polish your CD though, make sure you use a very mild abrasive, or you might just end up damaging it even more.

that's because PS2s are well made

so are the controllers, you can smash one of those dual shocks against a wall a buncha times and it'll still work

my ps2 has taken a beating over the years, it has never stopped working and has never damaged a single game i've put into it

that episode of xplay where they tested out the durability of each console is the only worthwhile episode that has ever aired on g4 ever

it's pretty funny, a 25 cent rubber ring is the difference between all these discs being scratched and a console than can get kicked around without damaging whats inside it.

I bought a 360 last week.

FIRST THING THE GUY SAID was to not stand the 360 on it's side while playing games 'cause it'd scratch the disk doing that, God knows why. If you were doing that,
/thread.

If you weren't... well shit then I'm just going to wait for my RRoD.

I vaguely recall someone throwing a Gamecube off a deck onto grass on youtube, and it still worked. And it wasn't a nice little drop, it was chucked.

So are you saying a rubber ring be inserted into the drive bay to reduce the chances of the cd getting scratched? If that is the case then I will just buy a 360 and a rubber ring..If that is what you are stating?

It's true, except if the player was high quality then you most likely would've have a problem.
