At 2-5 in the Pac-10, Arizona itself might be a bit of a doormat, but that doesn't make it OK to just go around and wipe your feet on Chase Budinger's face.
That's what Houston's Aubrey Coleman did to Budinger yesterday, and while I can't say for sure that I know the man's intent, you know, he did stomp on a guy's face, showed no signs of offering any kind of apology, and smiled while receiving a congratulatory "Hey, way to step on that guy's face!" high-five on his way off the floor. To me, that's unsportsmanlike.
Arizona went on to win 96-90 in overtime, despite the fact that Houston led 63-51 at the time of the face-stomping. Consider that your daily dose of karma, Mr. Coleman.
Wow, basically during a basketball game, there was a foul while a guy is running down the court so a whistle is blown. He slows down and steps on a dude's face after he fouled him. WTF? Then he starts smiling as he's ejected.
HOUSTON (AP)—Houston guard Aubrey Coleman issued an apology Sunday after stepping on the face of Arizona player Chase Budinger during a game the previous day.
Coleman, a junior and the team’s second-leading scorer, was ejected after stepping on Budinger’s face following a charge call with 9:51 left in the second half. Arizona rallied for a 96-90 win in overtime.
“I want to apologize to Chase Budinger for what happened Saturday night. I never meant to step on him,” Coleman said in a statement issued by the school. “I have never been in an incident like this before, and I have nothing but respect for him as a great player.
“I love the game too much to do something like that intentionally. I want to say I am sorry from the bottom of my heart,” Coleman said. “I know that God knows what is in my heart, but I am hopeful that Chase will understand and forgive.”
Houston coach Tom Penders said he regretted the incident but does not believe Coleman intentionally stepped on Budinger.
I don't know if I can believe his apology as sincere. This is worse than go.go's ceremony of making proxy CC's at his opponent's base.
That was retarded and obviously intentional. Reminds of an an intramural game I was in... we were playing a team of refs and with about 2 minutes left, while someone else on my team was bringing the ball up, and at about midcourt one of the refs essentially stepped on one of my feet from behind, lowered his shoulder into my chest with an extra burst of speed when I staggered, and plowed me over in the middle of the court, knocking me off my feet and my lungs out of breath. I was pretty pissed, and it wasn't even called a foul when it probably should have been a flagrant one. Which was ridiculous, because I was called for 4 fouls when I had nothing but ball when they were trying to shoot. The game was essentially over at that point too, which made it even worse (although we had kept the game pretty close against an obviously more athletic team, which was getting a lot of calls they probably shouldn't have).

I'm assuming the guy that got stepped on must've done or said something pretty bad? Just assuming. If not, then that is an asshole and should get his ass kicked

Yeah, pretty sure all intramural refs were students. Probably the only time I felt like decking someone in a sport. But I settled for fouling out, because my team consisted of people from one organization, which would probably get us suspended from playing intramurals for a while, and it would have reflected poorly upon the organization.
Ironically, I don't believe I have ever fouled out of a basketball game or even come close (I probably averaged between 1 and 2 fouls a game as a kid. I guess there was one game where the refs were calling almost anything and I had 3 or so)... then I foul out of an intramural one hahahaha.
