Well probably most people have seen the original series which I really enjoyed but couldn't quite see how they could somehow make another series of it as the film wrapped it up quite well.

But then I come across this:

+ Show Spoiler +
On Saturday, the February issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Newtype magazine published an interview in which Yasuhiro Irie confirmed that he is directing the new Fullmetal Alchemist anime series. The new television adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa's "dark fantasy" manga will premiere in Japan in April. Aniplex producer Ryo Oyama said that the production began on the series around last spring, and Irie added that the script for the 18th episode had been written as of December. Irie said that the project will be the first work by the BONES animation company's new D Studio and that the creators are still casting the voices. (BONES animated the previous 2003-2004 Fullmetal Alchemist anime series.)

Irie had previously directed Kurau: Phantom Memory, opening animation footage for the first Fullmetal Alchemist anime and Soul Eater, and episodes of Alien Nine and RahXephon. Hiroshi Ohnogi (Kekkaishi, Noein, Macross Zero) is supervising the scripts, while Hiroki Kanno (RahXephon, Yu Yu Hakusho The Movie: Poltergeist Report) is designing the characters. Akira Senju (Mobile Suit Victory Gundam, Red Garden, Rampo) is composing the music. Besides Oyama, MBS' Hiro Maruyama, Square Enix's Nobuyuki Kurashige, and BONES' Noritomo Yonai are producing.

The new television anime series was confirmed on the wraparound jacket band of the 20th volume of Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist manga last August. However, a document, which contained with leaked information about animators who worked at BONES, had already mentioned the possibility of "Hagane 2" ("Iron/Fullmetal 2") and Irie's involvement in July. Viz Media published the 17th volume of the manga version in North America last October, while FUNimation Entertainment released both the first television series and its theatrical movie finale.

Apparently it's going to air this April!
(Sorry if this seems like old news but it's new to me)

I just finished watching this series about a week ago. Totally epic. I wonder how they're gonna continue it from the first series though. I guess we shall see when April rolls around.

From my understanding, this is based on the FMA manga. FMA1 and the manga split off after Hughes's thing. IMO, while the anime was good, the manga was even better. I'm really looking forward to FMA2, but I'm still unsure where they're going to start off.

I've also read that this is a remake that follows the manga this time.

FMA manga is worlds better than the series was. At the very moment some epic shit is going on. I hope they dont fuck it up with a shitty 13 ep series that doesnt do the manga justice.

I'm sure it will be good if the anime doesn't overtake the manga!

YES YES YES

I loved the anime, but I never understood why they didn't connect it to the manga, like bleach or naruto.. (I wouldn't mind FMA filler episodes, cause it was so badass)

FMA was really good considering how badly most animes suck after they run out of manga and start making their own filler story.
No I'm never serious.

Bleach and Naruto manga are weekly releases. FMA manga is monthly. If they tried to tie the anime to the manga, it would overtake the manga too quickly.

Reason they can do this now is because there's so much room for them to catch up with.

I JIZZED IN MY PANTS

FMA is awesome. I remember being so sad when the ending said so clearly there could never be more (don't want to say what happened in case people haven't seen the first one).

Maaaaaan I hope people sub it quick and put it on torrents!

God damn it!

I loved the FMA anime not only because of its good story, but because it actually ended. I hate when animes are dragged along for multiple seasons past their prime. Although I have not read the manga, so I can't really have an idea on if season 2 will be good or not.

I know what you mean.

When FMA ended, as I said above I was sad because I enjoyed it so much I never wanted it to end, but on the other hand I really respected its ability to tie up the storyline in a way that really WORKED. Often if a series "ends" the ending doesn't really make sense, or else it doesn't necessarily mean that the series had to end, like a fade out of main characters walking into the distance or some cliche thing... you know what I mean. This happens very often in movies, in which they show the main character(s) basically just getting ready for the next challenge, but we don't get to see it. An example I'm thinking of right now is one of the harry potter movies, in which harry is flying on his broom and he flies up towards the camera and it fades out. Yeah, the movie had to end, but the ending doesn't actually mean it HAD to end.

FMA was different though... they came up with an ending that actually worked.

Most shounen series don't have an ending because they're published in the weekly magazines (Jump and Sunday) and the manga is dropped before it's finished... or they were made by Gainax who can't write an ending to save their lives.

I'm interested to see how this pans out. Bones never fail to release a hit but I wonder if this new sub-studio can hit that level.
