Varies by state, but generally, first offense isn't a felony. Second+ or if there is injury/accident, it's a felony. People like this make me worry just about any time one of my family members starts to drive. Too many people who are close to me have been killed by people like this. There's no excuse. Perhaps I'm bitter, but seriously... think it through before you drive. Though i'm glad everything turned out well in the end. | ||

In the military it can hurt your chances of passing security clearances for more sensitive positions. Some places simply don't hire you when the background check brings up a DUI. Luckily being my first offense, with more time and money I can go through a process of "expunging" my record of the dui, to which it will only be kept in police records for their personal use, not to the public and background checks. | ||

I say, I tend to agree. I think it's a good debate to have. | ||
