Right now we've got the qualifiers for the leagues going on.
Many times big name players falter in this stage (or even the previous one).
If i were OGN/MBC, I would be auto-berthing players that generate interest in the games. Savior could be on an 0-20 streak but it doesnt matter, we will be excited for and watch his games. I'd love to see FBH play in the OSL.
Because of the miniscule differences in skill nowadays, there is a constant revolving door of players. This makes it hard for a fan to connect with the players and really love them, where as in sports like baseball or football you've got massive team alligance.
So for god sakes, when you get a player with that sort of magic air around him, put him in your starleague. I want to see FBH and savior in the osl, not fucking rock or any other guy who's games do absolutely nothing for me and who's games i probably wouldnt watch anyway.

Seems kinda unfair to me...
People should be in on merit and skill not popularity.
Edit:And I'd rather watch an in form player I haven't seen before than some legend who just doesn't have it any more.

That and just because players are losing in starleagues, does not necessarily mean they will lose fans to connect with. These leagues aren't only for the past and current "celebrities", they're also for newcomers and experienced alike to prove their skill in sc to the people.

they do this already by seeding the top 4 players automatically from the previous season, right?
It seems dumb at this point, because there are a lot of old players that generate interest, but they don't really deserve to be there. Gamerito would generate a ton of interest, as would nal_ra and oov, and I don't think they deserve an automatic berth past the group stages.

Remember that all the "popular" players at the moment were "no names" back then as well. Who knows, the next Boxer or Savior might arise in the batch of new players.

Although it's more fun to watch the popular players play, doing it all the time would wear out the significance of watching, for example, sAviOr getting into the MSL
Ironically, the act of playing the popular players all the time takes away what makes watching them special
