When it comes to gaming, My friends are douchebags. They play CoD4 on the PS3, and wont shut up about there non-skill related achievements and accidental latency related killing sprees.
One day one of them came up to me and said. "Omg last night on CoD4 i nailed a 720 No-scope" me-"Wtf is that?" "Its where you put your analog stick sensitivity on high, spin around twice and no-scope someone." "Thats.... neat." "It was set up but it still looked real cool." -facepalm.
Thats the worst of the douche-baggery but there were alot of other comments too.
Anyway.
For about a year now i've been trying to get them to buy, or at least try, Starcraft. And most of the time they would say; "Can i get it for ps3?" or "nah, the graphics are shit." So after months of frustration, our science class (which they are a part of) Were set to do a computer-study on glaciers or something.
after about 20 minutes of a 75 minute lesson, and some god-like use of the copy & paste buttons, me and my friend nick(the CoD4 nooby) were awarded with some free time.
I always keep a flash drive in my bag for that situation and that day was no exception. Also i had a No-CD crack of Starcraft on it. I asked nick if he wanted to vs. me over LAN and he agreed. I taught him the basics of terran and promised to play a race that i am terrible at. So we played a PvT on Python, i decided not to cheese, or expand, or use more that one gateway. So after a surprisingly short game (due to the circumstances) i am the victor.
and nick said to me "Where do i buy it?"
Hopefully he will tell his Nooby friends and it will spread like wild fire.

That's cute n_n
I'm happy to have a little bro who plays, two of my best friends play and I have some inet buddies who play. TBH playing Starcraft kicked in after watching some VODs with English commentary (notably the Gom Invitational stuff). You get to see what's going on and all the intricacies etc etc. You should invite Nick and some more friends over on sunday's to watch some Gom together. I reckon more will join your new found clan :D

I did this at my school. It lasted for a short while but I got my friends pretty hooked. Some got surprisingly good over a short period of time, goodluck with it xp!

my friends are all decent gamers anyway, so i dont have that problem lol

Also i forgot to mention that i live in a semi-rural town whose main adolescent activities include Getting drunk and playing football. in that order.

i was pretty fortunate to have friends who were competitive about their games, be it board games or video games. Although I guess it helped that most of us were very good at the game of our choice and were decent at many others, which allowed us to play each other seriously and strive to improve at w/e game it was that we were playing.
Hardcore settlers madness = win.

Friend: Starcraft is such an old game, its not fun and the graphics are bad. It's so archaic. Me: Dude why do you finish FF1 on the NES every month then? Friend: Fuck you man
I gave up at this point lol, however he finds the proscene really interesting, its just that he hates playing the game.

Most of my friends play other games more consistently (except one who is also a member here), but all of them have at one point played starcraft pretty hardcore so whenever we have a LAN or just game over the net, starcraft is the obvious game to play. We also watch vods and shit together which is pretty awesome.
But yeah I have some experience with people being all: this is so lame, the graphics sucks, boho! You suck! But anyway, everyone still enjoys UMS, the no-skill part of sc, so they're all still in the palm of my hand!

I know a few people who play starcraft so this isn't really a problem for me ^^

I have a noob who plays css, a noob who plays UMS, and many noobs who noob at every noob game.

Haha great ending to the story!
Usually those kinds of people are synonymous with halofags, in that they have no skill at games and just like playing whatever the current popular game is and pretending they're "gamers."
Great that you got him to like it though, good idea using only one gateway, etc.
I made a huge mistake when I was trying to get 2 of my friends into it. I went for DTs since it'd be funny and just sent them to their base instant GG obviously, and they never played again. I thought they'd be annoyed but it'd be funny and they'd get over it, but they were so mad at my dick play that they never played again T_T

I know a lot of BW people in real life - they all play ...
but ya, none of my RL friends I haven't met through BW play, although some used to 10 years ago.

There's like 2398472347 pure ums noobs at my school. They all play starcraft, but not serious 1v1...

I have a friend who is a permanent noob in Starcraft. Sometimes it's fun; sometimes it's sad to play against him. For example, usually I just set up a containment outside his base and then I will go take a dump or something and when I come back after 5 minutes, nothing much changes (except that he lost his whole army while trying to break out of my 5 fully loaded bunker containment). Like I said, playing with noob friends is sometimes fun and sometimes sad.

One of my friends is pretty good at cs1.6 but whenever he saw me and three of my mates playing starcraft he'd give us shit and say it sucked and everything. Then one day he got bored because we were playing starcraft and he was sitting all by himself so he asked us to teach him how to play. The next day he came to school saying that starcraft was the best, how could he have said it was shit, bullcrap like that.
Literally a week later, after getting schooled by us one too many times he went back to playing cs1.6, I feel sorry for him, I really do.
