How many people think homework should be kept OFF of TL.NET
Jesus christ, it pisses me off when people start going, "oh Noes, differentiate this for me cuz I are newb and I will get 4 pooled by my test because I'm getting people to do my homework instead of doing it myself because I can't macro cuz I play terran and my friend plays toss and he's so imba cuz toss micro so ez and omg...!!1!11!"
It's called a textbook. If you don't get a problem, read the fucking textbook. If you don't get it. READ THE DAMN THING AGAIN. How hard is it to spend some time reading your textbook.
or you could just post up a jpeg, get micronesia to micro those variables, and pretend you understand everything.
Some people are just in a search for higher knowledge. The two questions which I have asked on TL are calculus related, and I asked them solely for self-completion. If there's a problem that I know I should be able to complete, but am lost on where to begin, I see no harm in asking it here. However, this does not imply that I don't read my textbook or am incapable of doing well on my tests. Also, in calculus we often get assigned homework separate from the textbook, there's nothing to read for it, and although I could just wait a day and ask my teacher, I opt for self-completion.
But the biggest issue here is, why does it bother you? It takes up 2 inches of your monitor on the left side of the website, and if that bothers you for whatever reason, then I apologize.

You can always go to the broodwar or strategy section to get purely starcraft related info. But since hw help is in the blog section, it doesn't really hurt anyone and people who like the challenge can help them if they want.
depends on the question, some of them give a good review... but it would be best to keep it down to the more "i've asked everyone i know and nobody can help me, i've tried consulting my textbooks, my notes, other ppl's notes, the internet, my parents, my cat, my goldfish, and some fastest guys, and none of them know... please save me TL!" then i guess it could be deemed acceptable...
I think you should be limited to one blog/thread a day. You make some of the most pointless and counterproductive bullshit I have ever seen. The blog section is meant to be less moderated and therefore a place for alot of the bad threads to pop up. Homework threads are a far cry from the worst on TL and in fact the blog section is the correct place for them. You on the other hand just make a bunch of dumb posts about your terrible strategies, iccup record or some other stupid thing.

Haha I don't even know why that one worked but it DID.

And this. I should have just said this in my first post.
why dont you just stay in the sections clearly designed for starcraft and programming. Your last post in the blog section was a poll about what to do if a girl you like doesnt like you back. Not much better than homework help

As much as this is true I have to agree with the OP. Sure "Homework threads are a far cry from the worst on TL", but that's the point. They shouldn't be on TL in the first place anyway. This is a starcraft community site, nothing more really. I don't think there are many people who come on to TL to help others with homework when they are usually posting that thread because: a) they want pity because of their workload/hard assignments b) they were too lazy to go in and ask their prof/teacher c) just because they can Now don't get me wrong, I like advice threads and such in the blog forums but when I constantly see homework help threads it angers me too..
Sure, it's a Starcraft community site, but it's a blog section. Would you like to limit the blogs to people posting iccup stories? it's a blog section...
On November 14 2008 12:39 Ilikestarcraft wrote: your threads and blogs are worse than homework and girl threads
That's pretty harsh, haha... There's nothing worse than girls threads. Homework threads are tolerable, because at least someone is getting something out of it. Girls threads just annoy me to death. They belong here: http://www.emo-corner.com/forums/

If anything make a "Physics Help Thread" or "Calculus Help Thread" or whatever so there aren't constantly new threads on the same shit I hate seeing every day or two. Really though, if people were responsible and paid attention in class and asked for help there then it wouldn't have to come to this in the first place. EDIT: And yeah the girls thread are really annoying too, of course you can't ask your "teacher" or anything like with homework about girls but TL isn't exactly the best place to come seeking girl help, I mean come on, it's a gaming website. Talk to your friends or something, I'm sure any advice they give is just as good if not better than random strangers on a gaming website.

Of course not. iCCup is related to Starcraft directly, and a lot of the time they are funny stories, not threads asking for help that has nothing to do with starcraft like the homework ones. You argued against the opposite point I made in your first two sentences. I didn't downplay iccup threads. I'm all for making a Homework thread, but I see nothing wrong with the system in place.

Ahh I misread the iCCup part, sorry haha. But blogs wouldn't have to be limited to iCCup at all. Looking at recent blogs topics I see plenty of other topics than iCCup that people enjoy reading and posting in: [G]Another Easy Recipe For Lunch/Dinner Exclamation mark or exclamation point? TL Book Club: First Book = 1984 etc

Fair enough. Haha. Homework thread or homework blogs, I remain indifferent on the method of posting homework questions, but I don't see the need to ban them from TL.

If you really think that TL is nothing more than a StarCraft site then you need to take a look around. TL is alot more than a StarCraft site we are one of the strongest gaming communities there is, imo the strongest. Even though SC is the main focus of this site many other things come up all the time and when a user needs help with their homework they can post it in the blog section, that is what its meant for, random posts that dont pertain to the rest of the site.

That's nice and all, I just wish there was like some little box we could uncheck or something that excludes homework threads in the blogs cause TBH I haven't been able to help a single person that posts a hw thread. I know it's not causing any harm but it just seems kind of cluttery sometimes, which is why I said it would be nice if there was 1 single "Physics help" thread, and 1 "Calculus help" thread, etc.

I view Teamliquid as way more than just a Starcraft site. It's just a general site for people sharing interests in Starcraft, and therefore sharing the same qualities that make one like SC, to just chill together. Why should it be confined to SC-only talk?
If you don't like it then just don't click the link to the thread ">.<" But I know what you mean, they can get annoying but don't let it get to you =b It's like watching something on TV, if you don't like it, flip the channel XD

No one is saying it should be confined to SC-only talk...
I don't really mind them if there aren't too many. It's not like you have to answer the question just because it's there I think when people do answer they have fun doing it.

LOL this blog is so good. Also SpiralArchitect said in his first post what I wanted to say, so no need to be redundant. But god these blogs just get better and better. There's tons of really smart people on TL who actually dont mind or dare I even say, enjoy helping people. I mean some of them are even TEACHERS. If they want to help someone let them, if you dont then fuck you who cares.

That makes no sense at all. When did I even ask anyone to care what I say? You asked people to care about homework threads. I don't care if people do care, you apparently do.
If you dont like the homework threads dont read them. Sometimes the conversations which start in the hw threads can be interesting. Besides, its not hurting anyone. Let them be.
Homework threads are the best. They give me a chance to feel smart. And when I'm bored, give me something to do. We need more homework threads. The kind where questions are asked though, not these kind.

You lost bro just give up., also your response didn't make much contextual sense.
Homework blogs are fine, we've all been there (even complainer OP). If it upsets you that you can't help out then don't click the thread in the first place. You have a thing called agency, use it. Girl threads are funny too. The strenght of a community lies in it's diversity and it's ability to meet the needs of all it's users. If TL can help you understand something then cool, that's what the strategy form is used for. All your learning on one page is convienent.
I think hwk threads and girl threads if it shows effort and it seems like the op is really lost and doesnt know what to do and tried solutions but still couldnt i think its okay
Anything emo like oh this girl i like doesnt like me what should i do or hwk threads that show no effort and its easy to do are the ones that are annoying. Plus for girl threads i hate when people actually give decent/good advice and op just ignores them and keeps on whining.
