My neighbor and I were discussing this earlier. Isn't it odd that people with kids pay less taxes?
Should they not be paying more taxes as they use more resources?
When he first brought this up, I really didn't know what to say. I had never thought about it before. Here is another thing that blows me away.
I live across the street from a teen homeless drop-in center. Tons of the girls are pregnant or have kids. Apparently, having a kid when you are homeless guarentees you that you will be fed and clothed by the government.
What sucks is that this program isn't helping anyone past the short term. Sure the baby will be fine now, but the child is going to grow up in a hostile environment, and is likely to repeat exactly what her parents did, and her parents did, and so on.

They may use more resources, but they are very expensive already...pretty harsh to tax them further.

read freakonomics. what you point out about the cycle is very true. in the book he goes to point out that there was a big drop in criminals around 1960-1970(i forget when exactly) but a main factor was the legalization(maybe not legalization but common place?) of abortions which ends that cycle because most ppl growing up in a hostile environment tend to steal, etc.... b/c they dont have proper school/role models due to their situation.
about your first point the main reason ppl with kids pay less in taxes b/c governments want to encourage larger families so their country will grow. look at canada/usa, very low birth rates 1-3%. out of all the "developed countries" france has the best birth rate b/c their tax system encourages it through varies methods. allowing for day care deductions/ income splitting with their kids, higher tax credits for kids of certain ages.
By doing that a government will receive more money b/c they will have more ppl to tax and more ppl making $ which they must spend, which is taxed, etc. etc. and down through the chain.
Mainly it is a greater focus on supply side economics which basically says that the less you tax the more you will make b/c ppl will have more $ to spend.

One thing what few of the countries do to get more babies is Child Benefit. Though our country lowered around 15-20 years ago and now days its pretty low.
1. child 100,00 €/month
2. child 110,50 €/month
3. child 131,00 €/month
4. child 151,50 €/month
next child(s) 172,00 €/month
Single mothers gets every children 46,60 € extra.
Benefit goes away when you are 17 years old.
Still our birthrate is 1.7 per female.

Look at foster homes. Some of them are good, but many of them consist of horrible people taking on 6 kids instead of working, and then spending that money on rent and shit for themselves, while the kids fend for themselves--worse than an orphanage.
You are right that it's pretty screwed up, I bet some stupid teens who are homeless actually get pregnant just so they can get shelter. Or at least, they might be like, may as well fuck for money, if I get knocked up I get free luxury housing lols. Why are they homeless anyways, maybe at home they were abused? IDK not like child welfare is adequately funded by anyone's judgment.
Oh yeah and we also give tax breaks to families. It's the same situation as old people. They are the ones that vote so they are the ones we politicians pander to. We get up on the stump and say "OLD PEOPLE, WE GOT YOUR PILLS FREE, CLICK HERE", "FAMILIES, WANT TO MAKE MONEY FAST? VOTE ME THX"
Aesop is right, when you give money to one group, like breeders, (and old people for that matter) you are taking it from the rest. And I want all my money thanks everyone can just fuck off and die.
