Maybe I'm just whining a bit too much. But Library fees are so irritating and expensive (in my area at least). If you happen to have any overdue books, they immediately charge you .40 or more for that book and then the price increases exponentially like crazy. I'm sort of a book freak as I like having books around me and I sort have a habit of checking too many books (usually because in my library the good books are always checked out so its too late everyday). But the library only allows you to renew the books the day before they are due, and if you happen to have any fees around 10$ then you can't renew or do anything at all. If you try to renew the day after they are due, then they charge you $.40 for all the books. If you return the books immediately after the day it was due then they still charge you for the books you returned. If you return any overdue books then you still have to pay for the days for the same books that you had not returned for several days or weeks. Also there are limitations on when you can renew books, like in some times you can't renew books because the library might consider it too "early" to renew them. Its difficult keeping track because I have so much on my mind these days that I completely forget these things. This libraries money making policies are really starting to get irritating and getting on my nerves.

Maybe you could actually turn your things in on time like 99% of the general population and realize that you're complaining about 40 cents while taking advantage of a service that the rest of the world would kill for.

What the rest of the world does I don't know of, and frankly I don't care because they don't directly affect me and I don't know what the rest of the world does in its spare time or whatever shallow morals they posses.

It's really quite sad that you don't appreciate the rest of the world. Kind of a closed minded view, don't you think?

However saying that what I have is something is something I don't appreciate because I have a lot of it and others should have that, is a really narrow-minded thing to say.

Yeah really, this is just as idiotic as the time when people started saying that a guy had no right to be depressed in his life because millions of children were dying in the congo or some shit.

Yeah I really don't understand how you can complain about something that's kind of free.

The fees don't pay for the library they are just supposed to irritate the idiots into returning the books so other people can have them. Apparently the fees need to be higher if you still don't have your shit together.

As someone who works in a library, I'll say two things. First, return your books on time--it can't be all that difficult. Second, go to an academic library (I.e. university library) because they generally have a more lax return/fine policy.

Either of those should significantly reduce your issues. Good luck.

You don't have to be in a college to use their library usually. They usually have a way for members of the public to get a card. Any public college will do, not just state universities but even community colleges. Shop around. They also have better collections usually.

Haha, libraries are definitely not the money grabbing fiends you seem to think they are.

Well you just have to learn to be more organised.
No I'm never serious.

I don't think that I understand...Just to be clear, I'm narrow minded because you don't appreciate your library, and other people would love to have a resource like a library?

Seriously, any college library (public or private even) will always allow community members to have library cards. The collections are usually better--though not always for fiction I suppose. Plus, it's a good habit to get in if you're going to go to college eventually. Using an academic library is a good skill, and, at least so far as I've found, the small town public libraries (if you're in a smallish town of course) are pretty rubbish in comparison.

I hate the normal public libraries. They are always filled with weird people who can't afford internet at home, teens drooling over anime dvds, and millions of toddlers running around screaming. Hardly a library at all. So go to a college or university's one like Enrique said!

One thing to the OP that he might care about:

If you put off returning books to the library long enough, they'll send collections agencies after you.

they must counter douches who check out shitloads of books at once, even though they won't be looking at everything in said shitload at once. Like me. And maybe you o.O

But luckily, I am in college, and I can renew before the day it is due! Oh, and they don't charge overdue until 2 or 3 days after its been overdue, so if you renew it in that time period you're fine. And they email me 3 days before its overdue heh.

Maybe you should ask your library to implement such policies if they don't have them in place already o.O
