Following this blog: So I lost like 50lb

6 Weeks later, another 8lb down. I imagine I may have lost more weight, but I have really dropped my cardio, down to something like 20% Cardio, 80% Weight Training, from about 70% Cardio, 30% Weight Lifting.

I have been gaining more muscle than I have been burning the remaining fat.

October 2008 - 158lb/72kg

Sorry for the low quality photo and dirty mirror.

Photo doesn't really do justice to my upper body, but my chest, shoulders and arms are getting very lean and toned.

I was going to take some vanity photos of my upper body but my phone battery died. Hopefully on the next update.

Maybe some of the fitness buffs on Teamliquid can give me some advice.

My upper body in terms of arms and shoulders contain little to no fat, just some loose skin and my legs are very lean, my back is also really taking shape. But I still have a belly and a bit of excess fat on my chest. It seems that my body doesn't even want to touch that area, should I stop weight training altogether and just do hardcore cardio for a few weeks or really lower my caloric intake? In which case the only thing I could think of taking out would be stop eating bread completely and perhaps cut dairy, but my dairy intake is very minimal for calcium/protein purposes and I love bread .

Any suggestions and advice to get rid of the last few percent of body fat in order to get a flat stomach?

Since you lost a lot of weight, it might be skin and not fat.

I have to start going again but I'm always so fucking busy. >.>

Dang sounds like a lot of good. Makes me happy I naturally have had very little body fat, I had a 6 pack even when I had really no abs to speak of XD. Maybe it's the chinese food? Dunno what else it could be.

Going hardcore cardio would probably be a better idea then cutting a lot of calories. I hear that if you eat meals spread out, and not individually very large, it helps as well, although I've never gotten around to testing that.

Hi there!

First of all - you've made an amazing success so don't stop now!

I am trying to do the same now, to lose fat while keeping/gaining some muscle mass. I have to lose 7-8 kgs though. But it's tough. Anyway.

I can give you some advice on losing fat.

First of all:
cardio - it's different for everyone. For me it works wonders when I start doing it. For the first 3 weeks I am losing fat and water like crazy. Then the effect drops. I think it's because my muscles are used to the pressure. Also I've lost some weight so it's easier for my body to move and thus it uses less energy. And I just can't afford more time on cardio. I can do it 3 times per week for 25 minutes.
But this is not meant to discourage you. There is still an effect. It's just lesser than when I begin it.
A very nice tip I can give you though is to do cardio before your first meal for the day. This way your body won't have carbohydrate reserves (they are burned during the sleep) and it's forced to use fat for energy.
I also add some medicines to increase effect. But I have medical education and I know what I am doing. So you can try it but first read a lot about it. I use ephedrine or amphetamines in low doses which grow exponentially for 2 weeks and then I stop them cause there is virtually no effect from them after 14 days.
Also I use clenbuterol. Very high doses like 3-4 times more than prescribed.
A completely safe option is L-carnitine. You can take 1,5 grams per day. Take it 15-20 minutes before you do cardio and 20 min before sleep. A little know fact about is that it makes sense to take l-carnitine up to 30 days. For this time it has reached the maximum levels and whatever amount you take is of no use. The levels remain high for a few months, like 4-5 then they drop and you can take it again.

You just have to do abdominal exercises as much as you can. There is no other way. I think it's best to do them after cardio. I try to do 4-5 series with 35-40 repetitions almost every day. And even if you don't do cardio or weight some day you still have to do a few abdominal series.

As for weight training to cardio ratio I don't know. You have to work it out. For me it's like 60:40 weight training to cardio timewise.

Now for the most important part. Food. I just can't stress how important this is. It's more important that cardio and weight training altogether. Cause it's like this. Say your energy income is 2000 calories. And you burn 2400. You will lose weight up until your body starts needing 2000 calories and that's when it stops losing weight. But say you take take 2400 calories and you burn 2000. Well then you are going to gain weight. It's that simple yet so many people fail to understand this and keep thinking that they only have to work out and they are fine.

Read some articles about carb cycling. Start here. You can Google some more resources.

I use this method and so far it's very good.
Just remember to add some vitamins. I take vitamin C 500 mg per day and some other polivitamin pills.

I guess that's all.

Bye and GL!

Hymn, thanks for the advice, I am already at a calorie deficit, but my diet contains a lot of protein and nutrients from vegetables, with a moderate amount of carbs, I'm not a human biologist but I am still gaining muscle and losing weight. So I really have no idea how the body works when it comes to muscle gain and fat lost to be honest. I'll look into carb cycling, it sounds interesting, but that for me would mean I would have to start eating a lot more. Regarding the drugs, the only supplements I take is 6grams of fish-oil throughout the day and the occasional multi vitamin if I have to work through lunch and I don't really get a chance to have a decent meal, I prefer to let my body do it's own thing rather than artificially induced chemical changes.

Yes it is, the 8gig version, I have a plastic cover on it at the moment and the cover is really scratched up, but if I take that off, the phone itself is immaculate, I really love it. I plan to use it's GPS function in Europe during WCG.

I'd love to hear some personal opinions on the whole weight training vs cardio for fat loss issue.

WTG dude, keep it up

someone else may have already said this, I didn't read the comments -

but, regarding the fat/looser skin on various areas, the only thing u can do is lower ur body fat even more, or build muscle size in those areas.

body fat is not burnt relative to what area you are working. your body takes fat from anywhere as energy. so you can do a billion situps and still have belly fat. the areas u still have fat at are most likely just the areas where fat is being burnt last.

so your options are:

1.) burn even more fat

or

2.) bulk that area up to negate the appearance of the fat.

as for calorie intake: I don't believe in guidelines on that at all. The body adapts.
I take adderall, which requires I consume extra energy, since it's an amphetamine. And still eat less than 2000 calories a day, and I work out every day and am fairly active. If I didn't take adderall I would probably eat like 1500 calories a day.

If you really want an incredibly low body fat, do this:

1.) put the bulk of what u eat during the first half of ur day
2.) put the bulk of the fat u eat in the first half of ur day
3.) stick to high nutrient sources of food, especially fats. this means oils and nuts for fats, not butter or cream or whatever else
4.) eat TONS of veggies. tons and tons.

and u can always replace dairy milk with

It's way more nutritious, has less fat, way less calories(WAY WAY less), and is unlikely to cause food allergies.

You will have to find some alternate protein, though. You can get it from huge amounts of veggies though

you don't even need a flat stomach to be a sexy beast. Just get your core strong and hard. Many woman find a nice manly muscle keg way more attractive than a 6 pack.

keep up the good work =) its great when people are motivated to work out. i had a blog on this stuff too - http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=79543

i would say don't stop weight training but supplement it with a lot of cardio esp to get rid of excess fat. cardio is essential for that.. at least that's what ive been told..

you can also try this link to stay healthy and lose weight without cutting out all the essential nutrients: http://mypyramid.gov/mypyramid/index.aspx

good luck on your fitness goals!

low-carb diet and lots of cardio. the important thing to remember about losing belly fat (well, fat in general) is that it begins in the kitchen - that means you REALLY need to watch what you eat.

men store fat in their bellies, which is why you often see so many men with potbellies, especially young men (who are primarily drinkers of beer, vast amounts of empty calories). it is also why this is the hardest fat to shed, imo. it's also thought to be some of the most dangerous health-wise.

I wouldn't stop weight training altogether, but I would certainly add more cardio into the mix.

in any case, great job on losing the weight! and keep it up!

Im at 155 right now but I don't look fat at all, my friends told me that I look like ~135.
And the size of my jean I wear are 30-31.

Could this be because of belly fat?? I guess I do have some but other than that i don't know where this weight is coming from.
