I don't like the concept of games that you play for a few weeks and then just throw away. But it seems that the majority of games for the PS3 are like that.
The few games I have an interest in are: LBP (preordered) RE5 Nobi Nobi Boy (katamari guy making this) Flower Next game from Team Ico (shadow of colossus guys)
I also have some of the PSN titles that I thought were cool, but the problem is that nothing really sticks. Where I live, we have a communal PS3 as well. I bought a PS3 because I thought it might be something I would want to have in the long term. I don't have much time for the games, and they don't seem very replayable. If I sell it, I could potentially just play any game I buy on the shared PS3. But, when I move out, I won't have the PS3 for future games.
Would you guys just sell it and save the money for getting a new desktop when SC2/D3 comes around? Or would you keep it for the few times it would be used?

Problem being, if you resell it, you obviously won't get your value back. You won't need a top of the line machine to play SC2/D3 when they come out, so especially if you wait to purchase the desktop, you should be fine. If you believe there's no way you could afford the desktop without selling your PS3, I'd opt to sell it now. Considering it would only go down in price.
I would keep the PS3, and try to save money as much as I could for a desktop for when sc2 comes out. One thing to consider is, are the games you want to come out going to come out before you lose access to a shared PS3?
See if you can get a decent price for it, and if not, I'd say keep it.

When's the last time you bought a console game that you didn't become done with after a few weeks?
|
I would keep it. PS3 is a sick media player having blue ray and the ability to stream off your pc. Might come in handy.
|
consoles are quite fun if you have a tons of rl friends that can just come over and play with you. Otherwise save money until you can get the top of the line desktop.
|
you don't "throw away" games when you finish them, you resell them so you can buy other games ^^. Anyways, if there's a communal PS3, why do you even have one? See if you can sell yours for a decent price, then when you move out, maybe there would have been a price drop or something, OR you realize you don't even want or need a PS3. Then just buy a good desktop. If you're barely playing your PS3, I don't think it's worth keeping.

Wasnt it kind of silly to buy one when there was a communal one? If you wanted it for when you moved out you could of waited until that time and paid less for the same unit.

To each his own. I have put more hours into many console games than into python.

Yeah... I went back through my collection of console games and I came up with 300 hours minimum in about 2 years. That's about as much as I've played in computer games save for Starcraft in the same time frame.

keep it just for the bluray player. if you want to invest a little time you can also turn it into a desktop pc by installing linux.
|
Keep it for the Little Big Planet! =P Otherwise I'd sell it asap instead of let it sit around -- as it devalues and collects dust.

To each his own. I have put more hours into many console games than into python. My first console was a fucking Atrai lol. Since I was a little kid I have been spending countless hours on my consoles and things haven't really changed. If I was to count up all the hours I spent there I would probably throw up all over myself. Even after playing StarCraft for ten years I do not think it can hold a candle to how many ridiculously long hours I spent in front of my TV playing Zelda or some shit.
As for your initial post I would say that PlayStation has always been a better company than Microsoft from the get go. Better support, better system and better games imo. So if I were you I would stick it out.

You wont get much of a pc for a ps3 thou

The op already mention there is a communal PS3 so there is no reason to keep the PS3. I'd sell my PS3 before there is a price drop.
Keep the money and wait til D3/SC2 is release to upgrade the PC.
