I'm not good with poems, but can you explain to me what "For what had been done was for the cursed land to blame" means? | ||

If you read the book then I think you will understand, but its basically all because of the "Island"'s effect as it changed the boys after a while into savages. | ||

I read the book a while ago so I really don't remember it that well... but I thought the island was not actually to blame... it was the human nature which the island failed to prevent due to being nothing more than a vacant island... | ||

And i also agree with micronesia that the book was more trying to highlight points of what desperation and isolation from a modern government can do. Probably worded that wrong but i believe the kids formed governments of their own and such. Not a major in english, those are just my two cents. Goodluck with this though! | ||

And, to clarify: The island was meant to be perfect. The point Golding was trying to make was to state that "human nature is inherently evil." Hrm... let me see if I can remember the quote. I'll just paraphrase: The point of the book was to trace the defects of society back to defects of human nature. Back to the point of the island being perfect: It was stated that it was the nature of the children that created the ending. Good poem, but it only skims the deeper meaning of the book. | ||
