If Miyamoto didnt make mario bros (or legend of zelda or megaman etc etc) , Would gaming be as good as it is today? or exist at all? Would boxer be Gosu at something besides starcraft (probably pimping). Would you have a girlfriend? i have a gf so yes i would

Perhaps gaming on personal computers would become much more popular, because simply people would just buy PCs to use them for work. I dont think that Doom or Wolfenstein have much to do with console gaming. Mario was one of the first platform games, but I think someone would come up with this idea sooner or later. On the other hand look at the new games - there aren't many platform games in generral for the more developed systems (Im talking about PC, no idea about consoles - but I think that most platform games are 3D now). Of course without NES there wouldnt be some well known game series, but I think most basic generes would be developed sooner or later (there would be no "rad racer", but someone would definitely develop a racing game for example). Also without NES, there would be no SNES, so perhaps the j-rpgs (which I dont play) would develop in a different way. The guy who considers fun of old games noobs is a fucking moron. You like starcraft, a 10 year old game...

SPACE HARRIER that was an awesome game, shit.

2d platformers are definitely a bit of a dying breed... but New Super Mario Bros. came out on the DS a few years ago, and it sold 14 million copies worldwide. To put that in perspective... http://blog.wired.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/05/16/mario_history.png That's how big it was in Japan. And it's still in the top 50 games sold each week in Japan... it might have an outside shot of outselling the original Super Mario Bros (in Japan anyways, not in the US due to the bundle). There's definitely a demand for good 2d platformers still. Personally I loved New Super Mario Bros., although it was a bit easy.
