Have you ever sort of felt like you've... outgrown your friends?
Today. Just a lazy early-spring sunday (Australia), so i decide to invite my friends over for a game of Smash bros in the tin shed i happened to "pimp out". They show up rather quickly and im in the middle of a (semi-important) game of Team Fortress 2. They see what im doing and immediately say "When you die its my go!" and screw around with the various shiny objects around my room (Broken computer parts, my bass guitar etc).
Now i know i invited them over and i can't just tell them to fuck off, but still.
Anyways, we go to my pimp den and i plug the Wii in. I happen to have my record player spinning a copy of Pink Floyds "the wall". They start screwing with it, playing with the speed saying "lol i can make him sound like a chimpmunk lolollol". i don't rage at them i just let them proceed. We play some smash (1 game), they get bored and start taking stuff off the walls and messing with my records again.
Do you think i am too picky about my friendships or i should just distance them from me (which i dont want to do because i've known them since Primary school)?
I kind of feel that i have outgrown them because i've started making friends with cooler people. Back in primary school i was not quite as popular(FAT) and i guess they were the kids that didn't care, now i have slimmed down and made some new friends in high school, they seem a bit.. immature. But i know i should cherish my friendships.
Btw. i Really hate immaturity (my mum runs a home day-care so there are little derelict toddlers running around the hallways).

Edit: To elaborate. The best way to let your friends know you've out-grown them is to bash some heads. You missed your chance.
However I had this friend who was a total nerd but I've known him since grade 1 and we've been friends since then however when we were in grade 10(?) we got more distant because I started hanging out with thugs and he was too busy doing school stuff.
If you've outgrown them be honest with them about what you think with what they're doing and they'll get bored of you.

yeah I know what you mean. One of my friends is a complete loser and it seems like we've gona opposite ways... I've made friends with new people however my best friends are stilll from Elementary.

I think it happens to everyone. We change as people, and sometimes that causes us to see our friends differently. If you don't enjoy being with your old friends then there's nothing wrong with hanging out w/ your new friends, it's just preference. There's no point in trying to keep friendships together solely based on the fact that you guys have known each other for a long time, especially if what you guys do isn't enjoyable for you, cause then it'll take away from their enjoyment also. And you should always be good to them, since they've been you friends for a while and all.

Well, I don't know, I just entered gr 9 and I don't seem to talk to ANYONE anymore except my old friend who I met when I was 5 and my brother. I actually feel quite bad about it since the new people I hang out with at high school are really different than me (they're asian-pride/anime etc...).
It's hard for me to establish a good friendship with someone because it's really hard for people to get to know me since I act really excited sometimes and other times I act restless and depressed and I'm trying to find a single balanced personality. I've been thinking of just relaxing and having fun but I don't really know what I want to do so I always feel restless. Not sure what to do really.
P.S I love Pink Floyd lol, but I had to pirate all my music, not a gosu record like you.

I feel kind of the same, but Ive known these friends for 10+ years, six of which we spent smoking copious amounts of weed together :D, but sometimes i want a conversation which isn't about something completely inane. I'm a bit of a nerd so i enjoy talking about the universe and all that kind of stuff, and the only time i seem to get a conversation about quantum mechanics or whatever is during what i call the "philosophical stage" of drinking nights, which is usually around two in the morning, but most of the comments from my friends are so ill informed and i get kind of raged but ignore it. I think unfortunately I'm quite intellectually arrogant without even meaning to.. Blah +_+

If they were really close friends, then why would you have a problem telling them to stop? If my really close friends are doing something retarded, I flat out call them a fuckin retard, and insist they stop before I come down on top of them with a fucking flying hammer fist......

Don't try to cling on to old relationships if you feel like you can't hang out with them anymore. There's plenty of people out there that you'll have a lot more fun with.
That's not to say you shouldn't make an effort to keep the relationship if you value it enough.

It sounds like you're the one who's extremely immature, because you invited all your friends over and then made them wait on you. Of course they got bored. No one cares about your stupid fucking Team Fortress game, quit it and live your life.
Two:
I'm not sure if you think you're better than them because you listen to your parent's music, or because they were screwing around with the record player. If the latter, just tell them to stop because you want to preserve your records. Big fucking deal.

You're fretting over popularity in high school... You're a huge dickhead. Maturity is knowing who's there for you in a jam. If you're friends with people just because they're popular or wear expensive clothes (or listen to the 'best' music), get ready to fall flat on your face when you need a hand. Loyalty is more important than any of those previous 'qualities.' It sounds to me like you just want to look down on people and place yourself above them. Maybe that'll make you feel good in the short run, but it's not going to be very useful later.

I would think anyone who just recently registered their name as "Jizz" would not have the audacity to consider themselves more mature than anyone.
I suggest you figure out if you really want what you're chasing after right now. If not, it's pretty probable in my mind that you're gonna find out the hard way it isn't. The safest thing to do is to just drift from your old friends if you really don't like hanging out with them anymore, but not to burn any bridges or let your new dumb friends tell you you shouldn't be friends with them, or let them rag on them. That way you at least appear to be somewhat of a decent guy, despite what's going on in your wormy little brain.

Understand friendship is something more than looks or slim or what ever. If your friends can be friends when you are fat, they are good friends. If you can find new friends only when you are slim, that tells me that your new friends judge by appearance and they're not good friends.
But if they mess w/ ur stuff just tell them to stop in a good manner, they should know.

I feel this way sometimes too. I guess it came from going from one of the no-namers at school to a person that other people would say, "Hey, I know that guy, he did blah-blah-blah." Some of the friends I made before just aren't interested in the things I'm interested in (i.e. SC, I mean how could you compare CoD4 to SC?). I guess it's just a divergent path sort of thing.

What grade are you in?
In my experience the shift in friends is usually mutual and at the beginning of high school, which makes it a lot easier.
