Are women taking over the world from the previous centuries?
A little background. Every since civilization started as a hunter-gathering society, men and women took different social roles depending on the large development period of human fetuses. Men took the role as the hunter while the women tended the home.
As cities grew in the river valleys and cities along with complex hierarchal structures grew, so did the separation and specialization of labor between males and females grow. This trend would continue well into the 1900s.
Historically speaking, the use of men in warfare has always pointed to one particular point of interest. Since relatively few men are needed to father the next generation, societies can afford to risk the men in dangerous endeavors such as war. Thus, the intrinsic value of men was originally lower than that of women. As the feminist movement grew and started demand more rights for women, women became more empowered and started closing the wage gap between males and females. In addition, they also began to take more positions of power (as in the case of German Chancellor Merkel) along with diversifying job positions into traditionally male-dominated fields such as engineering, government positions, and law. Indeed, just recently in the United States, a women ran for the Democratic Nomination and almost won.
But one question that many people ask is whether the rise of women has come at the expense of males.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/2007-09-12-census-college-enrollment_N.htm
Women now comprise a majority in almost every college, with the average undergraduate population being 56% women on average. There are many pundits who attempted to explain this phenomenon one way or another, but it comes down to the one question.
Has feminism gone beyond its self-stated goal of raising the social and culture views of women to the same level of men?
Will we eventually see a world dominated by females? Does anyone have any idea what such a world would be like?

Just another cycle of life . . .
|
How does enrollment in college have anything to do with this subject? Are you suggesting that women shouldn't be allowed in college? Or that just because they're female they're getting into colleges?
|
Yup, women are gonna take over this world and we men are going to be forced into slavery for the upcoming Amazonian era where we grovel at their feet and get bitch-slapped for simply "not understanding".
Seriously, now. Do you honestly think women are gonna take over the world? They're just gaining more respect/equality.
|
I wouldn't mind a college full of women :D And you, sir, are a sexist. what does it matter, like what ilovezil said, they're getting the respect and equality, which should be deserved.

Yes, it hasnt been about that for a long time. Modern feminism is closer to male chauvinism now. It is about getting more rights for woman then men have.
edit: More woman in colleges has to do with many men just going straight in to construction or other physical labour jobs straight out of high school. They can make more money doing that then going to college. Woman are less likely to see that as a viable option since they are physically weaker than men on average.

stupidest thread I ever didn't read.
Of course men still rule the planet. Don't pay attention to feminist crap.. we have centuries of dominance over them. We are financially rooted, physically dominant, positionally superior (business/political/economical/militarily etc) and they are plagued with ailments that come naturally to them like pregnancy, menopaus and menstral cycles. Men rule this planet and until something very drastic and very sudden happens it will stay that way.

DId I ever mention anything about not allowing women into college? Hell, I wouldn't mnd having more women in college with me.
What I'm saying is the leaders of tommorrow will come from colleges. Since more and more women are going to college, we could very well see a female-dominated world.

and you, sir, are a troll. Find one sexist remark in the whole piece and send it to me. There are newspaper articles, and honest people who are studying this right now. This guy is the person that accuses anyone of studying genetics as racist.

Men drop out of high school in far larger rates than women because current teaching methodologies are focused on a female form of learning, and social pressure to provide for a family is largely targetted to males.
Pretty obvious result when looked at from those angles.
Will women dominate the world in a few decades? In certain fields and certain respects they already do. Draw your own conclusions as to whether that's for the best or worst.

Women are also culturally dominated in every known culture. Matriarch communities do so at their own expense and are in the VAST minority on a global scale.
Women are cultivated to want to be dominated more so than men. Men are repulsed by stronger males and want to overcome said male. Women are drawn to stronger males and want to be their subservient.

Just that 99% of TL.net posters are men. Which they are. Did you expect an influx of women to come to this website because a blog is made with the word "women" in the title?
|
Men outnumber women in basically every conceivable position of power. Women are not likely to "take over" anytime soon.
|
As long as men retain their physical prowess, the women are powerless against our whims. Their ultimate purpose is to work in the kitchen to cook. The idea of them going to college is preposterous.
0/5 stars for your blog.

I think there is a growing trend in society to demasculinate men, in a search to become more "civilized". You can see evidence of this breeding of beta males through social conditioning in many avenues: television (shows like i love raymond), schools (where traits like aggression are frowned upon), and in the ways we are advertised to.
This is why a lot of guys in their teens and twenties have existential life issues. Growing into a man in this world is extremely difficult.

On topic: Who cares, I'm still certain that men and women will compliment each other in a very equal way such that women still need men, and vice versa.

Non active passive sit and listen learning is directly in contravention with the active hands on preferred method of male learning. Additionally, you can read the article posted in the blog itself for an example of a benchmark which favors women discouraging men from proceeding in their studies. A third point is that the vast majority of teachers for young children are women.
These are not non-issue topics in light of massive amounts of men failing to start college or end high school.
|
I don't think so... simply because there are more men sitting in the powerful positions and can control the flow of women into the powerful positions. It's that simple. It is not fair I know but that is how the world works.

Does anyone have any idea what such a world would be like? What amazes me is that it took two writers for that typical USA Today crap. Feminism has very little to do with those college enrollment figures, and it hasn't accomplished any of its stated goals. Women are still underpaid and underrepresented in most high paying fields and they won't be taking over any time soon because of socialization and the inability to work and have a child at the same time.
I think a large part of this is education inflation increasing faster for women than for men. There may be problems with teaching styles and cultivating interested male students, but there's also more opportunities (not necessarily restricted, but socially accepted) for men without a college degree than there are for women.
If women ruled the world, it probably wouldn't be very much different than men ruling the world.
|
Have to agree with Incontrol here, the dominance of men is not over by far. It's just pure biology: The majority of the world is capitalist or in some way dependant on competition. Men are biologically more inclined to compete, mainly due to the effects of testosterone.
The fact that women are starting to outnumber men in higher education is probably caused by some social factor, maybe because women (in general) are often more protected by their parents in the sense that they don't let them fuck up as easily as men (again:extremely general). Another cause may be the faster maturity of women which may lead to women having better grades early on and through that get ahead and stay ahead.
But, if we would see the rise of a matriarchal society is that really a problem? I think it would be fascinating to see whether any immidiate differences would show. I doubt it though.
|
Lets ask an afghan women what she thinks about women ruling the world. Or an african one, or an Oriental one. In fact to any women who leaves in a country wich don't belong to the North.
And women are (socially) educated to be under our influence, by themselves they avoid a lot of job. Little exemple: we are roughly 200 in college studying mechanical engeneering. 15 women, most specialized in civil engeneering, 2 specialized in manufacturing. And even with a degree its not sure a all compagny would hire a girl do to a job for men. How could they rule if they are excluded willingly or not from a lot of jobs?
Finally most women just don't care about stuff like ruling other/ dominating people.
Nah, there's nothing our balls should worry about.

Proof? I can't help but wonder how you could confirm or deny a claim like that lol.
In a recent study by the University of Teamliquid, one thousand people were interviewed. 500 were adult males, and 500 were adult females. One of the questions asked: "Do you consider yourself someone who cares agout stuff like dominating other people?"
More seriously, you can't use historical evidence really, because the reason why women weren't dominators as much might be for reasons besides a lack of interest (such as the topic at hand).

No way. You don't say the chinese are taking over just because they have the largest population. It's still about the top places in government, business, education, etc. Which are all dominated by men.

Do you have a source for this?
Feel free to read any of Dr. Sax's work on the topic. He's pushing for single sex public education nearly solely based on the fact that women and men have been proven to learn in different ways, and his position makes sense insofar as one considers an education more of an intellectual institution than a social one. I personally see the value of having education segregated with the aim of more efficient use of time in class, leaving greater time for unstructured social contact during the day.
With regards to engineering in specific, here's another article highlighting the gender discrepancy of engineering: http://www.buzzle.com/articles/gender-differences-in-learning-style.html
Engineering is one of the only fields to be maintaining a near complete male dominance, just to note that. Law, medicine, most grad schools have more women in them than men.
I saw it said children are pushed to read at an earlier age which favors girls because boys don't develop at the same pace in this regard. Is that what you meant? That's one example of the larger trend, yes.
How does that favor girls?
Because teaching is coming from a source that can directly empathize with their experiences as a small girl. This is the same experience based deficit that pushes feminist groups to demand more women in legislature and more women in the judiciary; decisions and execution are biased by the experiences of those people involved in them, and if the experience is largely female (teaching) or largely male (Legislature), the results will be shown accordingly.
Also if we are going to use these points to show how men are being put at a disadvantage, then how have these inequalities gotten worse in recent years?
The inequalities have gotten worse because despite a poor education system, women were largely held back from attending higher education. Despite one of the problems with the system being removed (barriers to female success) the other (barriers to male success) haven't been dealt with, largely because its VERY hard to secure funding for scholarly work by being a pro-male reformer. There is very little research being done towards what's happening to men in an organized fashion at the academic level because there is no organized framework of pro-male organizations lobbying for it; most men are like inc and think that their place in the world isn't being erroded because they're currently doing well.
The issue isn't that women shouldn't be trying to hit and surpass parity and do well for themselves; that's awesome. Its more that men are slacking under the sense of security that five thousand years of unquestioned dominance gives them.

No. This is stupid. What are they going to take over? Have you noticed that the majority of top paying jobs are still held by men? Even if the glass ceiling becomes a thing of the past (which I'm all for), do you really care about the gender of your boss? Worry about yourself ffs.
Women now comprise a majority in almost every college, with the average undergraduate population being 56% women on average. If you'd ever been to University, you'd realise that a lot of these girls are just spoiled brats who are failing anyway. The number of times I've wanted to clock a bitch for complaining about how hard some bird course is and then talk about all the classes she failed last semester... Stop being a slut instead of studying and maybe you could actually do well! University is so fucking easy. Higher percentage of women going to university instead of men could mean so many things, and 56% is completely meaningless. Maybe apprenticeship career paths are more appealing to men than women? Oh shit, mystery solved =/ Besides... All these girls are taking useless Sociology degrees and shit that can't actually get you a job even if you do graduate. Ah... I'm just angry thinking about all the retards who go to university and somehow manage to fail...
University attendance is in no way an accurate judgement of someone's intelligence, least of all undergrads.

My mum was telling me about this book she was reading, i can't remember the name or the author ;; I'll have to ask her next time i see her.
Basically it was about the differences in male and female children and the way they learn from a young age, apparently females are born with more colour receptors in their eyes, and are thus more interested in colour etc, where males are more interested in movement.. males will draw pictures of trucks, cars than females who are more likely to draw houses.
Another pretty interesting thing was that in the classroom males tend to learn better under stress. So the guy with an all male class, didn't make them sit at their desks and some other things i think but I'm really not sure I'm remembering correctly on the details. Anyway he found that the boys in this class did 500% better than the average.
Sorry atm i really don't remember the name or author of the book but i will find it out ._>;

Women are definitely starting to dominate the work for force because of affimitive action, and more and more women attending colleges, and men dropping out. There is still room for improvement. Women only make up a limited percent of Fortune 500 CEOs. However, that too shall change because women has a lot to bring to the table, and without them it would be a brain drain. But is the domination of women in the work force a good thing? I don't know. I'm interested in finding out.
|
How many senators are women. Wealthy stockholders, businessmen etc. While more and more women are getting a middle and middle upper status in society due to expanding opportunities, positions of power are still almost entirely male.
Ultimately, it comes down to the fact that women simply aren't as competitive nor do they desire success and power as much as men.
|
Thumbs up for OP
I'm not against female equality with men. What I don't like is this idea of "sameness" that people try for these days, that there are no differences between women and men; that the psychological differences between men and women do not make a difference in how they deal with problems, how they get the job done, what they perceive as success, etc.
A second thing is that I do believe that sometimes women do seem like they want a privileged place compared to men, perhaps to off-set their ideas that men control everything (this is true to an extent, but feminists seem to take it too far).
A third point is that with this "sameness between the sexes" thinking there is an even greater danger of a loss of respect for women; a loss of traditional courtesy, for one thing. My mom always told me to hold doors open for girls, and when I went to spring formal I pulled my date's chair out for her for her to sit in; are these courtesies shown to ladies to die with modern ideas of female independence?
|
Loss of traditional courtesy is bullshit. You should have courtesy for everybody, not just women. Is it wrong to hold a door open for another guy? -___-
|
What a bump. This issue has become even more relevant than it was in 2008. For fucks sake, in 2008 we were so busy watching the Dark Knight over and over again that we just let this shit boil up to an unacceptable level. I suggest we start burning women at the stake. Call me radical, but it's new and innovative ideas like these that will get us men back to the front. Grab your pitchforks.
