Ah, so after a decade or so of studying. The results of my GCSEs came in, which for those who don't know are the major tests in the UK that are taken at age 16. Getting 5 Cs is enough to get in to college.

My results:
4 A*s
4 As
3 Bs
1 C
1 E

Damn you Religious Studies and Additional Maths!

Anybody else taken GCSEs?

Judging from your description that looks very good. Congratulations!

Yeah, 2 years ago though.
I didn't even know Add Maths existed until I got to 6th form - went to a bad secondary.
You did well, if you got A* in all the subjects you're taking for A level then it's brilliant.
No I'm never serious.

I heard my cousin got his results today and got almost entirely A*s, but he does go to some ridiculous private school.

Very well done pal, much higher than what I got when I did mine (ABBBBCCCCC)
What are you doing for A Level, assuming you are doing A Levels.

Only everywhere?

Religion is, at least to me, a very important subject. I had two different classes of religion. One basic and one more advanced. In the first, we learned about all the world religions and in the more advanced one, we talked about what happens after death and tolerance towards different religious groups and stuff like that.

I don't know if it's the same elsewhere, but religion was one of the more enjoyable subjects for me during high school. Just half a year ago, I was thinkinf of majoring in religion, but chose English instead. First day of university is 1st September. Go me!

Yes, but USA doesn't have Religion as a subject because they believe in freedom and all that yadayada.

You have high standards if you call it crap. Then again, high school education varies significantly from state to state and so forth...

just look at international test scores

I've heard time and time again from americans about how bad the school system is up until university/college, and its borne out in the performance of students

I sat IGCSE (international GCSE) which I think is easier than the GCSEs and got:
Math A*
Eng lit A
Eng lang B
Bio A*
Chem A*
Physics A*

We only do few subjects because we do IGCSE in one year instead of 2 years like I think you guys do for GCSE. I found the IGCSEs so much gayer than A levels. The curriculumn and exams for A levels were so much more clear cut, so I did better in them than in my IGCSEs.

International test scores are not solely a reflection on the educational system. They also are not the best judge of how successful the education of a student has been, necessarily. Education issues tend to get oversimplified.
