when the girl I had basically fallen in love with told me she didn't feel anything for me. She was the only girl who showed me so much compassion and wanted to know more about me that I was actually interested in. I know she was trying to soften it up and be nice to me, but it still hurt me so bad. My friends were kind of pissed off at me afterwards because she was all I talked about for like, a month.
I even cried a few times, but that might just be my imagination because men don't have tear ducts according to .kaz's blog.
But let me back up, because I'm getting way ahead of myself.
Last year was the first time I met her. It was when we were both high school sophomores. At that time, we were competing to get academic awards, get better grades, whatnot. I didn't really know her.
THen this year, we really started working together with some other people on team competition. I got to know her better and she was just so kind and compassionate. For me, I felt like she was the perfect match for me. Caring, compassionate, smart, hardworking, good at the shit I suck at (English, art, humanities, etc) and not good at the things I'm good at (Math, science, etc.).
The day before the chemistry lab final, we were all frantically trying to "patch up" our lab notebooks to turn in. She, a friend of hers, and me were working on it together. Somehow, they made me stay up until 5:30 am. At this point, I was pretty much dead tired, and my mind was performing at an efficiency comparable to drinking 16 bottles of vodka. Anyways, the friend of hers (who knows I "like" her in that way) started asking questions about asking people to prom and whatnot. I got tricked and basically blackmailed into telling the girl that I liked her and I would go to prom with her if I could.
She said something like, "uhhh, I can't give you a response right now." and a little bit before that she had been comparing herself to her friend and telling me about how she lost the genetic lottery (her eyesight is poor and she's kind of short, but I don't give a shit.) to her friend (who admittedly, is extremely extremely talented in like everything. She's also pretty hot too, but let's not get into that.
So later, I asked her what she thought about me, and she gave me a vague generic response. Then later I asked one of her other friends to get a response for me. He told me that she said she "Didn't have any feelings for you and never really took you for real."
Yeah. I was heartbroken, it was my first time. I still feel some heartache and my eyes still tear up a bit when I think about this. But I feel that I really need to just put it out there outright. Maybe typing it will help heal my wounded heart.

i think this is what we called puppy love. you thought you know her, but actually you dont. my advice to you my friend is dont fall in love so easily cuz theres much more than meets the eye in a girl.

Yeah don't worry man. I like a girl too, have for a long while, cause she helped me out with a whole shitload of stuff. But she wasn't as nice about rejecting me ^^
EDIT: Yeah its probably just a crush.
EDIT2: And by probably i mean obviously

any suggestions on the fastest way to get over this? I mean, I've tried everything, but it just doesn't seem to work for me. Sometimes,, I just randomly start thinking about her again.

shit happens.. but most girls in HS don't know what they really want.. so in a way, she may have feelings for you (she was being nice to you, so that's a sign), but just hasn't thought about you as someone more than a friend yet, or she just panicked when you told her you liked her and wanted to go to prom with her...(which I think, you should have just casually asked to go to prom, not go all out and say you like her, etc.)
anyway, in my experience, if she was being nice to you and she was just faking it for benefit of whatever it may be, you deserve better. On the other hand, if she was being nice to you but still rejected you, you still deserve better :D

Notice that I said we were talking about going to prom and not actually going to prom. Also notice that I said that I would go to prom with her IF I COULD.
Well come on, can't I just say the truth, it's not like I'd ever go for her anyways. ^^ I'm way outta my class there, eh Last Romantic. Btw, I love your prom thread, it's great humor.

Thats happened to me a few times haha, it always sucks. The last time, I just got super raged, and I got that single tear drop down my cheek. It was pretty odd.

Lol, and I thought the facebook change in relationship status from her was because of you. Guess I'm wrong there. I have to admit the prom picture was pretty good though (someone showed me today when I just realized what the Japanese currency sign in that thread meant).

Oh god, You've just been reminded of my own similar experience TT.TT. It sucks but you're probably better off not dealing with incompatibility issues while in HS anyway.

2) No really. You've got to stop obsessing over her and to do that you need to stop being reminded of her 24/7. Minimize contact!!!!!!!!!!
4) Face the facts. She doesn't want to be with you. Purge the stupid thoughts in your head about possibly ending up with her.
5) Focus your mind on something else. E.g. another girl (the best cure)
6) Realize this shit happens to almost everyone. You will get over it don't worry. Analyse the experience so you're not as much of a sucker next time. Did you misinterpret her signals??

you first have to develop a certain standard which you don't have the first time you totally fall for a girl.
after that you're usually cooler and able to recognize when you're in danger of going into "friends mode" etc. etc.
apply your knowledge then (yes not only knowledge but also feelings to a certain degree) and if they still reject you they are simply not worth it / not a good match for you as they are unable to appreciate you as you are (and as a partner).

Things happen, be glad it turned out this way and not worse. She could have pity you and gone out with you or something, I'm sure youd rather that didn't happen, or if you two went out and then one of you realize that you two aren't fit as a couple and break up, that would be worse imo.

... Why should things be so awkward? You were interested, she wasn't. End of story. Pain is always relative, and eventually you're going to feel like this was really nothing. It's much worse to be betrayed by someone you trusted than to never to have trusted them in the first place.
There's other fish in the sea; it's always darkest before the dawn; etc etc. There's really nothing to be so upset about here.
