You meet the most interesting people, you have instant contact to locals, it's fast, it's free, it's fun. About safety: You have to decide for yourself. What's going to happen? You can have a good look at people you go with. If you are unsure, there a dozents of safety-tipps and tricks, like unsuspicious questions you can ask to find out whether someone is genuinly offering a ride. Especially in Eastern countries where hitch hiking is still really common. Totally random people will give you ride and stop at the next restaurant and invite you to a full meal with everything. Or offer to come over to their home for dinner. In the US the biggest problem are in fact the police. Hitch hiking is legal in most states in the US, the problem is that most people including the cops don't know about it. | ||
