[H] Look for a special program

MasterReY Germany2708 Posts August 09 2008 14:32 GMT #1 Hi guys. I look for a program which reads out information out of files like the filename, filetype and size and then writes them in a .txt file ! Can you help me plz?

MasterReY Germany2708 Posts August 10 2008 10:05 GMT #4 hmm that list.txt is not that good. i want a list like File1 File1type File1size File2 File2type File2size File3 File3type File3size File4 File4type File4size just simple and clean. @waterdragon: hmm no GUI needed. why it depends on os, programming language, experience?? its not that i want to write that program. i want to use it i guess something like that doesnt really exist?

MasterReY Germany2708 Posts August 10 2008 10:10 GMT #5 Btw i got a program called mp3tag it reads out title, album, artist etc. and writes them in the filename like i want. i have to choose the format like "%title% - %artist%" so i have the file called "All Summer Long - Kid Rock" i thought if a program can do that, there should be programs for any files which write the information in a .txt file.

But first, you need to clarify what file information you want to be displayed: - Just the file extension? - ID3 tags from MP3 files, because you used that as an example? - The description you see in Windows Explorer (like "Adobe Acrobat Document" for .pdf files associated with Acrobat Reader)? - A generic MIME type (like "text/html")? - or something completely different?

MasterReY Germany2708 Posts August 10 2008 20:25 GMT #9 Thanks thats very nice of you. what i need: Filename (ofc) File extension/The description you see in Windows Explorer Size (intelligent size. not bytes when its 2gb, not gb when its some kb) no id3 tags needed. no mime type. well the main thing is that i would like to choose how/what information are displayed. things like the order of the information a toggle for every information (so i can choose which information should be in) toggle for extension/explorer describtion would be nice too. Another important thing is that its clearly arranged with rows and columns or something liek that. and maybe even an option where i can choose how to sort the files. (alphabetical,biggest file size at beginning, same type together) 0xDEADBEEF i dont know if its hard to make that program like i describe it. If it's alot of work then you can remove some functions.
