I had sex about 20 minutes ago. An girlfriend came over. It lasted about 5 minutes. I felt like I was 15 again. With some experience comes enough confidence to laught if I come too early. It happens. I did just that. I'm pretty sure she has some kind of STD. I should be worried. Am not.
A lot of writing about this rape victim in one of the larger newpapers the last two days. The police can't find the guy who did it despite a crystal clear photo and dna. I'm 99.9% sure I know who he is just looking at the blurred photo in the paper. So rat on a good friend or pretend that he is not a rapist? Am I the the worthy member of the increasingly tight modern society, or am I the guy who puts his friends before everything else and leaves the 19-year old victim to find her answers alone? My mind is too slow to deal with it. Help me, Johnny!
My Marla called yesterday. It was late, she wanted me to pick her up at a party. I got lost on the way, found it eventually, and drove home while she complained about my music as usual. "You don't fit". She told me. I don't understand and I'm not following the crazy current that is Marla. I'm not even trying. There's girl drama and I'm to blame, but I'm not that guy anymore and I'm not caring. I hold her for a while before I leave. She's my gamine.
It's the opposites. The drinking and the workout and the healthy food. The job and the love and the drugs. The random sex and hurt, the nice you know and love. The serious face, the laughing eyes. A face smiling with eyes blue and cold. It doesn't fit.
Marla will never be ordinary again, I don't think. She's honest and brutal and nice and evil all rolled into this little woman who wants someone to hold her but can't dare to admit it to anyone but me. I don't tell anyone.

I'm still here. The things with the young girl came to an end, and it hurt, but not as bad as expected. It's weird now that I've gotten some distance. I'm slowly taking control. And I still want to lose myself, let everything go and walk away. I'm not.
32 hours nicotine-free right now. Cleaned up around me. There are still about 10 unanswered job listings printed and neatly stacked to the left of my keyboard. Have to do them, because my job is so boring I can't even gather the energy to write something while there. It's the perfect place to display the slow lazy fog that is killing us. I don't have to think because the computer does it all. I have very little responsibility because every decision is taken by the computer. I come to work awake and lively and leave 7 hours later tired, cold and bored out of my mind.
It's over in a week plus tomorrow, and I have to have a new job by then. Better use of time: sending my resume to as many as possible right now.

Yea it's the last two days and random things. I forgot to find a fitting picture so I added a random one to at lease have something. I sound like a drug addict at times:o

There really is no question here. "Rat" on him.
The word 'rat' and its negative connotations are also really out of place here. Your friend raped someone. There is absolutely no shame or undermining of your morals if you tell the police. He fucking raped someone. We can only guess to the amount of physical and emotional pain he caused.
Also, innocent until proven guilty yesyes, your friend is only a suspect. If he really is innocent, he should have turned himself into the police long ago and got this shit over with. If he is guilty.... see above.
edit: SCC-Faust makes a good point below. If personal safety is a major issue in anyway then it becomes a whole lot more complicated.

I know I wouldn't personally feel comfortable reporting him, because last time I had to be a witness for someone in a legal case, the police kind of told the douche bag that I was testifying against him. I didn't show up to the court case itself but I was called to the building in Reading and they asked me some key questions that pertained to the case, but I didn't actually take part in the whole "front of the judge" or whatever happens in that room.
This is now my senior year in High School and the kid still wants to kill me. His life is pretty much ruined due to his death threats + stealing which apparently are beyond zero tolerance in my school, and I'm sure in United States as a whole after Virginia Tech happened (this was just right afterwards, same year). If I didn't testify (not sure if that is the right terminology, but whatever), he probably wouldn't be as screwed as he is now. And he knows that.
I'm not a person who likes to be assertive or active, and now that I look back at the situation I really wish I handled it differently, but I'm so glad he got what he deserved. Hard decisions suck.

I am not advocating leniency towards rapists.
But a friend does not "turn in" another friend without a FULL understanding of the situation.

I'm with travis on the talk to him first. There's always the chance that this girl is lying because she has a bf, or simply regrets the sex. If that is so I should talk to my friend first and explain him the situation - maybe he just remember it as sex and won't understand the rap charges. If that is the case then I should talk to him first, so he can go the police himself and explain his side of the story.

It totally triggered my god-what-ass-kissing instincts when Plexa was praising your writing, but when I read your post again, I'm actually inclined to agree. Your writing is very crisp but sometimes eloquent.

Girls cry rape all the time, I agree you should bring it up with him to find out the truth. At least, I couldn't ethically do anything other than bring it up. And if he did, I'd report him, restrain him, whatever it took.
Although I agree with Travis the law means nothing, the law often goes with what's "good." But of course, "The law was made for man, not man for the law." However, I think if your "own morality" is anything other than "rape is bad" you might not have the best priorities.
My suggestion would be take it up with him, don't just turn him in since you could be wrong / not understand the full situation. Confrontations have to happen sometimes to get things done.
