From all you hardcore (or semi-active) skaters, tell me some tricks that are a must-learn!! I just bought a new sick-ass deck with these new ultra light magnesium trucks. normally the trucks are the heavy part, but with my deck it feels like the board is the heavy part! I can ollie like 6 inches higher than usual with these new trucks i would recommend them if you are looking into new trucks lol.

For now i can land
-ollie (lmao)
-kickflip
-heelflip
-varial flip
-shove it (both ways)
-backside 180
-half cab (front side)

Ill update the list later.

Im working on trey flips for now.

thanks

I remember the first time I was at a small skatepark (In Carlisle Barracks in Pennsylvania, my cousins father is in the military and they live in like some really odd place that has a school, houses that look the same, and all the fathers (and/or) mothers are in the military) I went down a ramp, but I leaned back because I was scared if I leaned forward too much I'd smash the ground face first. But what happened instead is I leaned back so much that the skateboard slipped from under my feet and I slammed my ass on the ramp and took a rode down it on my bum.

I was in so much pain I just left the skate park without the skateboard, it was my cousin's anyways.

Fakie inward heel flips. They're technical and great bank tricks, while being technical they're easy to do because of the way the trick workds out.

Nollie hard flips are my personal favourite. People always had lots of fun with fakie big spins but i was never a fan. Also double kick flips are easy as long as you can ollie say 3 decks. Learn everything you know switch too, asap.

Im not very good but I can skate nollie and switch just as well as I can skate fakie/regular because Im like ambidextrous with my feet. I think you should learn nollie 360 shove-its and nollie big spins (both ways for both tricks) and nollie 360 because they look sick and if you can do one of those, you can probably do all 3 if you practice a little.

I used to skate like a year or two ago. I thought of going back to staking a while ago, but I was using my brother's deck and now he's selling it (Toy Machine, pretty neat), so... no.

I used to be able to land some good flips but never really got to grinds or slides because the only skatepark we had in our city at the time was on the other end of the town, and I was like 16 at that time so I couldn't just go by myself, lol. Just getting there and back home would take me like four-six hours by bus/trum anyway. T___T

To the tricks, for me it was pretty much basics:

- kickflip
- heelflip
- verial kickflip
- inward heelflip
- pop shuv it (both ways)
- 360 pop shuv it
- 360 flip (not that good at it)
- hardflip (ditto)
- some fakie flips like kick, heel, big spin, 180 kick/heel, and whatnot

I think 360 flip and some fakie/nollie flips with rotation are worth learning!:D

By the way, which one did you learn first: kickflip or heelflip? In my neighbourhood most people started with kickflip, as opposed to me.

I've been skating for about 15 years, but I'm not very technical. Once I learned to ollie, I worked on that for about 6 years straight until I could finally do ollie a fire hydrant like I saw in a movie when I was a kid.

My repertoire:
+ Show Spoiler +

Street:
- ollie! (15 stairs is my personal best)
- heelflip
- kickflip (I only recently learned the correct way to kickflip but now I can get some height)
- double-kick flip (this one always wins me S.K.A.T.E., along with shuvits lol)
- varial flip
- front/back-side 180
- shuvits (180 & 360, pop-shuvits, frontside, backside, and nollie)
- 360 flip (but not really anymore. Haven't attempted one in a long time)

Vert:
- ollie!
- rock'n roll
- basic lip stalls
- 50/50 grind

I'm 26 and I get really tired and sweaty these days, so I don't trick skate much anymore. Started surfing this year, I'm trying to get more into that.

I recommend hitting the skatepark. Once your ego gets used to being trampled by the amazing 10 year olds (fucking Tony Hawk video game generation lol), it's the most fun kind of skating in my opinion. Start on the half-pipe and learn rockn' roll and lip stalls. Also, just shooting the bowl is soooo fucking fun. Wow, thinking about it makes me want to hit the beach park right now.

If there's no skate parks near you, kill yourself. Seriously though, just build a funbox out of a tabletop and some palettes and practice grinds. I don't know how strong magnesium is, but lighter trucks tend to crack if you come down too hard, so don't launch onto it. Maybe stay away from metal surfaces when you grind, too. DON'T FORGET TO WAX THAT SHIT! Chicks love tail grinds.

Anybody got any skate vids of themselves?

Man I used to skate so much before studies/work got important. Wish I could go back to those days. Some of you guys sound like you can do some pretty decent stuff. And lmfao @ 10 year olds making a fool of you. It's so true. Skating was some of the most fun of my life!!!! Just keep practicing!

When I first started skating, I tried to work right into techincal stuff, which was a big mistake. Before trying to learn all these flatground tricks, make sure you have decent balance in normal, fakie, switch, and nollie, so tha your comfortable. Bombing hills, dropping in on a quarter pipe, are commen things people overlook. But if you can do all those then you should be fine. You seem to have the basic flip tricks down ok, maybe try olleing a set of 2-4 stairs? maybe kickflip? Hope it helped ^^

I used to skate a ridiculous amount and was sponsored by my local shop. Sadly after I got a car I stopped skating. =(

Also, learn frontside flips with good style. Makes the bitches go "ohhhh".

I actually could heelflip first, now kickflips are the easiest trick i can do aside from an ollie or pop shuv. For kickflips i just ollie and barely flip my foot out and straight, it works perfectly.

I have been skating for 9 years on and off. I took a HUGE 2 year break after i skated vert so i had to learn flip tricks when i was like 15, im now 17 and i havent skated alot, but i just got this new deck so im going to every day.

I have ollied 6 and 7 stairs pretty easily, yet to kickflip one (i can frontside 180 them though).

I can drop in on most stuff except the huge 15 footers, which is like a fucking 90 degree wall imo.

So i should try doing everything switch that i can already do, or work on 360 flips?

I have alot of good parks near me, one is 5 mins driving and the other will be RIGHT next to my dorm in august so i wanted to brush up to be sick at the parks.

Magnesium is very strong actually. I used to be able to grind alot of those rails that go up from the ground, idk about it now haha..
