One day my as I was eating a chocolate chip cookie my little brother says to me "You know there are actual Pro starcraft players in korea?"
My first reaction was wait... ACTUAL pros? Like for a living?? And he said yes. Now, about a year and a half later, I am totally into the pro scene.
Anyways I know a bunch of people here have been into SC way longer than me, so...how did you get to know about the korean scene? Were you here from the beginning? did your little brother look up youtube videos?

My older brother downloaded this program that let you view them like when the scene first started taking off.. many many years ago... That's when I knew it existed.

I started getting into it when I joined a forum for mapping.

Hm I started following progaming in 2002-2003 and around the beginning of 2002 I was watching replays of pros like Nada, TheMarine, Boxer and I had only played fastest up until then and thought "low-money" maps (I love how hardcore fastest map players regarded these maps as inferior to the fastest maps) were silly and retarded lol

for some reason i found teamliquid and the rest is history as they say

I was a gg.net regular and one day Mani posted a guide to some program which allowed you to watch korean tv and therefore progames. I thought it looked pretty cool but I couldn't work out how to make it work. I went to tl to find out and never looked back.

i saw starcraft on tv while i was at korea and thought that was the best thing ever.

i died away from the progaming scene for a bit, and then i went to korea again a few years later and i watched the game where TL members appeared live on TV (I remember it was a nal_ra game. :D)

i've been here since.

Clicked on an advertised link to WCG once. Then stumbled across the vods of professional starcraft. First game I ever watched was Foru vs Midas at I think was the 2004 WCG. Blew me away and I went out searching for more.

I've really only heard of Boxer, nc yellow, nada, and nal_ra in the early days. I knew progaming existed for a long time. It was only until last year's WWI tournament where SC2 was announced that I started following the scene. And yes, when I first saw those games, I had no idea who savior and bisu were

I got into Starcraft pro gaming right when Grrrr first hit the scene, but it feels like I've been playing for ages. My best friend got me into Warcraft 2. He clicked on all the units about 50 times to show me the funny audio and then I realized there was a lot more to these games other than the comedy! That's what made me a Blizzard junkie. Anyway, I got my first copy of Starcraft when it first came out and haven't turned away ever since :D

someone showed me a replay of TheMarine tank pushing, and I was like omg, he has 6 factories and he makes so many tanks and vultures! I used to think vultures were useless. Then I became a terran player for awhile and started showing off my skillz to my $map buddies.

I think it was pimpest plays that I really saw first. Some of them were so amasing especially the three marines that killed two lurkers.

Oh, and TL I found through a link to SC stuff on GameReplays. I found GR looking for strategies for CnC ZH. I found CnC ZH competitive play through Pure Pwnage episode 3, I believe. It's the one where he's raping China with a tech rpg (for those that know what that means )

I got starcraft in 2006 and went looking for melee maps

that search led me here (somehow, since tl didnt even have maps)

progaming followed naturally

Myself and a bunch of hs friends started playing for fun again in uhh late 05 early 06, and I wanted to get better so I googled some stuff about sc.

Ended up finding an interview by tasteless with rA at wwi 05 i believe and shortly after found TL/wgt/pgt etc. At first I just lurked and read the strategy forum but I ended up following the proscene and watching live matches shortly after.

It amazed me people were still playing tournaments for money at that time. I had played a lot at my friend's house in 99-2000 and didn't get my own computer until 03 so I had no idea anything like that existed.

In 7th grade is when I found out about it.. I think in 2001, but when that Terran kid from Norway beat a Korean Zerg on Lost Temple. It was hosted on sclegacy.com when it still existed (or didn't suck). After that I was like "omg" and ripped off his LT strat because I played Terran at the time; but I didn't really get into the scene more than observing it. I made the stupidest mistake in the world and played Golems and Matrix and UMS crap all the way until about a year ago. I think what held me back is that I thought the pro-scene was unaccessible to foreigners, I used to look for ways to get in tournaments and things all of the time and couldn't find any. I played Quake 3 and CS 1.6 competitively instead.

Such a ridiculous waste. I could have been practicing 1:1 play for 7 years now, and I wasted 6 of them. 1998-2001 I just got owned by my uncle on dial-up in 4th grade, haha.

One day last october or november I decided to check out a link to a pro sc match just to see what it was like since I had played the game for a couple years when sc first came out. I watched the game and was absolutely blown away. It was shocking to me. What these players were able to do was so much beyond what I had ever thought was possible in sc. After watching that first game I ended up spending an entire weekend watching games on youtube and fell in love with sc all over again. I picked up sc after not playing on bnet for about 6 years and I am finally learning how to play the game properly. I use to think I was really good becasue I pwned at 3v3 BGH!!!! LOL

I was in the middle of finals-revision when I procrastinated almost as much as I masturbated. During the former, I tried to Youtube Age of Empires 2 games (used to play that quite hardcore), found nothing. I then tried Warcraft 3... and got a few snorefests with Grubby, Moon etc.. Becoming desperate, I searched for Starcraft, thinking that no one still cared about the 10 year old POS.

I realised how wrong I was when the results page showed hundreds of videos from "VioleTAK" and "wifebeater" and even a couple of english commentary videos (these were golddust) by this dude called "Tasteless" (his WCGs) and a kid called "Superiorwolf"(!?!). Somewhere along here, I found teamliquid (possibly because of some Youtube troll called "teamliquidsucks" lol.)

I found a couple Boxer highlight videos during a long train ride. I had played Starcraft for about a year before that (not very regularly), and thought, how the hell did he do that? I found a lot more videos and discovered some new commentators like Klazart who improved my love for the game tenfold as i was a newb back then and didn't know what the hell they were rly doing. Saw a couple of old games from progamers like Nal_ra and Garimo (my HEROS) and started playing again. Started actualy following the scene just as Savior's reign was ending.

I remember it very clearly. The video that had made me aware of SC Korean progaming. It was the video that had not only started my interest in progaming, but also my interest in SC.

I had been playing the game only for a short while, treating it like any other game, unaware that my 50 apm was low, when a friend of mine (the friend who had introduced me to the game), showed me a youtube video that would change my view on games.
Here it is:
+ Show Spoiler +

I watched that game wide eyed, not knowing what the fuck was going on. I had to have my friend explain to me what was happening. I was left confused, wondering how my regular games against my friends usually take 30-40 minutes wheras this game only took 5.

Ever since watching that video, I have been interested in SC progaming and started playing the game a lot more seriously than I had been. A while after I started playing UMS games mainly instead of 1v1s (I was never interested in fastest ). A year ago I had started playing 1v1 games again starting with my 50 apm, regreting ever switching to UMS

I just started following it this past October. Came to teach in Korea and saw it was on 2 channels on tv pretty much all day every day. Then two friends of mine took me to see an OSL match last October and I've been watching it every night since.

I watched some Starcraft video my friend set me, of some newbs. On the related tabs there was a pro game, so I watched it. I spent a few months just going from random game to random game, watching everyone play. At the time July was my fav pro gamer, and I mostly watched him. A little while later sc2 was announced, and I googled for a forum. I found team liquid. Kept watching pro gaming for a few months, and learned a few things. Then I dropped off for a long time, and came back. I'm watching more than I ever use too.
Can you dig it?

found it through broodwar.com, watched some VODs of Niza through that old zerg.kr site. Then found TL.

I remember being completely amazed when I saw the FP view of boxer's keyboard, and that short game vs zerg where he rapes the lurkers at 7 and defends at home as well. I didnt realize BW could be played like that.

I got into progaming when I moved to S.Korea by watching Real Story progamer (KOR series) on Arirang. Then I went to a match at COEX's old MBC Hero Centre, met the OGN Sparkeyz team (formerly KOR) and got addicted to attending matches/photographing esports.

I been playing sc for years vs my friend who I could never beat, the guy was too ridiculously good all of a sudden. He always mentioned such ridiculous things as how 2siegetanks + dropship can own dragoons, and how 1 vulture could supposedly take out 20 zealots. He then mention something about boxer and then I youtubed some vid and was amazed. A few months later I ended up here.
