If your university is anywhere near decent, you probably have a glassworks somewhere to produce A grade analytical equipment onsite. The chemistry department (likely a doctor in analytical chem) would know where they are and what they can do. That means, they should have a professional, teaching students how to make glassware for engineering-related machines. But, what student would want to concentrate in such a field? Eh... it used to be that every university with a chemistry department made their own glassware. That's really started to fade out over the past a hundred years or so as scientific companies sell almost everything one would need these days. There are still universities who make their own glassware and teach students how to, although they are very rare (one was featured in Chemical and Engineering News, the American Chemical Society's publication, within the past year or two... I might try to hunt that article down). One big advantage of that is they can make custom stuff a lot easier. And even if it isn't full on making glassware, it is still useful to be able to work with glass. I know in my backwater university there was one professor who could make glassware if he had to- he helped me seal up a test tube on itself for one of my experiments, and he'd do other random useful stuff too.
"Grade A Analytical equipment" is probably not that feasible though. I'm fairly sure that there isn't a university that can produce a volumetric pipet that is accurate to be within plus or minus 0.001 mL. Getting the fittings on glassware to be right is hard enough...

Btw I talked to my supervisor today, he bascially said "dont worry, shit happens. We'll try to solve it as best we can" etc and he's talked to the company that we get these reactor tubes from etc to repair it.
He was like "damn you must have made a huge mess" b/c the tube was shattered, not just cracked like he had assumed initially (basically like, a tube of radius 3 inches and length 2 feet shattering on the floor -> lotsa glass.
So I'm doing Raman and SEM and TEM and shit for the time being.

One of the many problems with that list is that it's just "overall" which doesn't mean shit and is basically incalculable.
UofChicago is quite excellent in the social sciences, while MIT is in engineering, John Hopkins in Medicine, etc.
The other big problem with the list is that many of those are simply bullshit. Brown ahead of Rice, UofM, LSE? I don't think Brown alumni would even go that far.

LSE = London School of Economics
the problem with the us news score is that its based off of yield and acceptance rate. uchicago has a ridiculously high acceptance rate of like 38% b/c their yield is shit (like 35%), and as a result they are lower in the rankings than if their acceptance rate is lower and their yield is higher like most ivies. Although mit is def. better than uchicago imho in like all fields except social sciences.
