Even when using ebay and paypal you can have issues with buying things but I think selling is pretty safe. You can be really safe by moving all money from your paypal account once you're paid to your bank/checking account and that way there's no way the buyer can somehow "take" their money back or reverse the transaction.

I don't know if that's absolutely true... Paypal may be able to debit it out of your account or credit card. The buyer can do a chargeback on the credit card, and I doubt Paypal assumes that risk. That said, don't let the risk scare you away. eBay's reputation system is pretty helpful. We sell some stuff online through Paypal without doing any reputation or whatever checking, and the fraud rate is less than 1%. Or if you're in a major city and want to meet the person and sell locally, craigslist can be good.

Paypal can't take funds not in there for a refund (they can't debit your checking or charge your credit card). They will just email you to tell you that you owe funds, and won't let you send any money. If you receive any money on the account they will take it. If a seller scams someone and the buyer does a chargeback, PayPal eats the loss. Buyers are pretty much 100% protected. Sellers are the ones who can get screwed. If someone buys something from you, says it's broken, files a complaint with PayPal, then sends you a rock in the mail, PayPal will still refund them 100%. You will eat the cost. Even if you try to argue your case, the PayPal reps are pretty stupid and don't even care. I know because someone bought a Mac G4 from me, stripped the motherboard and CPU out, and sent back an empty case. PayPal refunded him completely.

I'm sure it is the safest however you can get ass raped at any moment. Don't ship over to the UK for starters. Paypals policies totally screw you over. The buyer can say he didn't receive any item, and he'll get full refund. You get screwed, end up owning paypal, and you lose your item(s). There is just so many loops holes that can be exploited. The reps really suck too as the previous poster stated. They don't care. Paypal went through a large class action suit because of how shoddy it was. It's fixed up a bit, but it's still crap." But yeah, just ebay or craigslist.
