Oak Hill is a great golf course in Northern NY (Rochester).
The head pro is one of hte Harmon brothers... I forget which one!
Billy Andrade is a student, that's all I can remember atm.

Billy Andrade is from Rhode Island - the other professional from that state during the same era is Brad Faxon, the best putter on tour for at least the last decade.
He had knee surgery last year (?) when he tore ligaments on both his knees.

He was playing events on tour with torn ligaments (maybe it was only one knee) apparently you can play golf at the highest level w/o all your knee ligaments lol.
Michael Irvin of the Dallas Cowboys retired due to repeated damage to his neck/spinal cord, but during his career suffered many knee-ligament injuries as well.
On Best Damn Sports Show Period, he hosted a parody show of TRL (Total Request Live - MTV) called ACL, where he presented a countdown of the top knee-ligament injuries. The #1 was his own injury back in 1996 or something, and as an act he got all pissed off. It was humorous.

Current Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo played Torrey Pines, site of this year's US Open along with 3 other amateurs. He shot 86 (iirc), which is quite an impressive score on a course set of for what is the toughest test of golf in the world.
He also has scores of 69, 71, 75 in US open regional qualifying in the last few years, very solid numbers from a guy whose day job is throwing some pigskin.

oh hey, apparently in 1991, Brad Faxon, along with fellow Tour pro Billy Andrade, formed Billy Andrade/Brad Faxon Charities for Children, Inc., a non-profit organization that (as of 2005) has donated over $3 million to needy children in Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts.
He sounds like a pretty awesome dude. Do you know any more about this guy?

Torrey Pines' first two rounds at the open will feature a group including the top 3 players in the world, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Adam Scott. Their thursday teetime is ~8am, which will coincide with the general traffic congestion that already exists in the area even without the tournament, which will undoubtedly lead to massive problems on the highways, as well as the course which doesn't have exactly the widest passageways for spectators to walk through.

They're just very good guys (you dont really find many bad guys in tour, really). I believe they host an annual tournament in RI which even gets TV coverage in the offseason, benefiting charities. I don't quite remember if it's the father-son event but I do remember seeing it once or twice before around november with other fellow tour pros playing in it.

Speaking of golf and charity, the Byron Nelson Classic (in the Dallas area), started in 1944, has the record for the most charitable contributions over the course of its tenure among all PGA tour events. In 2007 it exceeded the $100million mark for cumulative contributions to various charities.
Remember, that just one tournament out of 42 or something doing that much good.

In 2005, the PGA Tour's Charitable contribution total surpassed the $1billion usd mark.
The tour's generation of charity dollars far exceeds that of the more prominent american sports leagues (nba, mlb, nfl, etc)
