Maybe it's just my state of mind at the moment, but I found this movie to be simply amazing. The artwork, music, characters, voice acting, everything just meshed and created a world that sucked me in start to finish. And let me tell you, the artwork and music were simply AMAZING. So much detail was put into the backgrounds of almost every scene and it really showed and it really made a difference. Anyway the next part is more bloggish so don't read on if you don't want to. It may also be where I am right now in life. Halfway through college, I'm exactly halfway through the point where adolescence ends and real life can begin. I'm having doubts about life regarding where I will end up 10 years from now. I've already stopped talking to people who I considered to be the closest to back in high school. Being a 19 year old who has never had a girlfriend I'm having doubts about whether I'll ever shake this ubiquitous sense of loneliness I seem to carry with me. This movie seemed to speak to me about hopes, dreams, what was supposed to be versus what is. It seemed to reinforce my beliefs about time's effect on the distance between people. But the ending was just so hopeful, I was at once stricken with despair and hope. I dunno. I really don't know where I'm going with this. Sigh. Warned you not to read this.
I just saw watched the trailer. It looks like the kind of movie I'd denounce as cloying and sentimental around my friends, but secretly I'd watch it over and over again. Can you tell me more about it? I'm going to see if I can find it on mininova...
I dealt with loneliness a lot when I was younger. My advice is to go out and get involved in things. It doesn't have to be something you feel passionate about. You don't even have to believe in the value of community service. Join clubs, volunteer, find a job. Do something that forces you to be around people and work with them. It will develop your sense of confidence and make you new friends. Take with you a sense of respect for others and a little optimism, and you will have many new friends before you know it. For me, it was doing political work, writing for the school paper, and doing debate. Go find your own thing. It's good to develop your social skills now so you don't have to do it when you enter your first job.

Anyhow, Makoto Shinkai's directorship always feature such amazing artwork, having it in HD simply blew my mind. The story is the usual style for something that he directs as well, though a tad more realistic. This is kind of a Hoshi no Koe take two imo, though I must say I enjoyed the former somewhat more.
my download just finished honestly i'm going to wait until i've got a friend over to watch it with me, because if I watch it myself I'll probably get really depressed.
